Local browserstack serenity testing - maven

I am trying to run a serenity test locally via browserstack. I have downloaded the following test repo: https://github.com/browserstack/serenity-browserstack
replaced my browserstack credentials and run the following command mvn clean verify -P local.
I am using the browserstack chrome extension on my mac but whenever i use the command nothing happens, there is no activity on the remote browser screen.
And when looking in browserstack Automate tab i see that a test has been run but the local is false...
what am i doing wrong?

To enable local testing BS Automate needs this capability as well as their BrowserStackLocal binary should be up and running before the test executes.
I see that their code starts the BrowserStackLocal binary programmatically (replacement of chrome extension) before test begins.
https://github.com/browserstack/serenity-browserstack/blob/master/src/test/java/com/browserstack/BrowserStackSerenityTest.java#L39
Do verify that the 'browserstack.local' capability is correctly set to 'True'. This should enable the local testing and use the binary connection which is being spawned by above code.
P.S : Chrome's BS local extension wont be used by BS Automate, it is used only by BS Live.

Running GUI Testing on bamboo agent as service

There is a way to run CI of GUI testing in bamboo agent as service on windows server?
I don't think it is possible, just run the bamboo agent as a proccess.
I am using puppeteer as libray to run the GUI testing on electron app.
any type of another solution will help :)
If you can achieve running the build via PowerShell or cmd prompt, you may do so with a script task.
For this, you have to make the agent run as a local user as explained in this page. This way, you have the same environment as the local user and the commands to execute your electron app will work successfully.

Nightwatch starts selenium and then hangs indefinitely

I'm running a simple nightwatch test on a Windows 10.1 machine. The tests starts up selenium server (e.g., selenium server... started - PID: 12784), but it never gets to the test code. I can use a browser to get to the localhost server page that is spawned from the "node nightwatch.js -t test.js" command, so I know the server is working properly. I've also tried running nightwatch with different browsers, e.g., -e chrome, firefox, IE, and phantomjs, and none of them work. Putting --verbose on the command doesn't provide any more console spew, so not sure how to debug this. I'm running with selenium-server-standalone v2.53.0.
Any suggestions?
Solved my own problem. Turns out the problem was with incompatible versions of node, nightwatch, and python. I figured it out by creating a totally separate clone of my repository and reinstalling all the node/nightwatch/selenium dependencies. Would be nice if there was a debug feature that could be enabled to indicate more details about where a node or nightwatch application is during application startup. I learned of node-inspector, so I'll check it out as a possible debug tool.

selenium UI automation through Teamcity build agent

We are running selenium UI automation through Teamcity build Agent but it couldnt launch firefox and the error is below:
org.openqa.selenium.firefox.NotConnectedException: Unable to connect to host localhost.localdomain on port 7055 after 45000 ms. Firefox console output:
Error: cannot open display: :0.0
Error: cannot open display: :0.0
Before trying with Teamcity build agent , we have executed the selenium cases manually (by running the ant script) in the build agent VM and it could launch firefox and executed the cases successfully.
so, we don't see any problem of compatibilty between firefox and selenium jar version.
It seems like your configuration misses a virtual display.
You need a virtual display if you want to run selenium with a browser such as Firefox, IE, ..., without any display. You could use Xvfb for that, or headless browser such as phantomJS.
There are a lot of articles about that, like this one
Or you could export your display to a monitoring environment, if you want selenium tests to be displayed while they run.

Selenium Web Driver does not work on xvfb

I want to run my Robot Framework tests which include Selenium2Library keywords on an Ubuntu remote machine so they should be run without a display. At first I just tried to run a simple test and get following result:
WebDriverException: Message: The browser appears to have exited before we could connect. If you specified a log_file in the FirefoxBinary constructor, check it for details.
I installed xvfb in order the run headless tests and run these lines on remote shell:
sudo Xvfb :10 -ac
export DISPLAY=:10
Now i am getting the following error and I can't get rid of it
test | FAIL |
WebDriverException: Message: Can't load the profile. Profile Dir: %s If you specified a log_file in the FirefoxBinary constructor, check it for details.
I checked nearly all questions here about Selenium on xvfb and this specific error.
Since some mentioned about Selenium - Firefox incompability, I tried updating selenium (it is up to date, version 2.46.0), my Firefox was latest and i has not worked.
Then I tried using an old firefox relase (35.0) which is also not worked
Now I'm trying a solution for this problem and I am almost sure it is about fireofx.
Thanks for your answers and advices
EDIT:
->Runing tests with chrome works just fine
->Also i checked my iptables if there is a rule blocking network to local, it is in default state

Jenkins : Selenium GUI tests are not visible on Windows

When I run my selenium test (mvn test) from jenkins (windows) I see only the console output. I don't see the real browsers getting opened . How can I configure jenkins so that I can see the browsers running the test?
I had the same problem, i got the solution after many attempts.
This solution works ONLY on windows XP
If you are using jenkins as a windows service you need to do the following :
1) In windows service select the service of jenkins
2) Open properties window of the service -> Logon-> enable the checkbox "Allow service to interact with desktop"
After then you should reboot the service jenkins
Hope this help you :)
UPDATE:
Actually, I'm working on a an automation tool using Selenium on Windows 10, I've installed Jenkins ver. 2.207 as windows application (EXE file), it's running as windows service and ALL drivers (Chrome, FireFox, IE) are visible during test executions WITHOUT performing a mere configuration on the System or Jenkins
I got the solution. I ran jenkins from command prompt as "java -jar jenkins.war" instead of the windows installer version. Now I can see my browser based tests being executed.
If you are already doing what #Sachin suggests in a comment (i.e. looking at the machine where Jenkins actually runs) and still do not see the browsers, then your problem may be the following:
If you run Jenkins as a service in the background it won't open apps in the foreground. You may either try to run it not as a service in the foreground, or run it as a Local System account and check Allow the service to interact with desktop option. In the latter case you may get into permission problems, though.
Update: To make sure this answer is understood properly by others: Jenkins Windows 'native' installation is not really native. It's a wrapper around Java that runs it as a service.
To interact with desktop GUI, you should launch slave agent via JNLP:
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Distributed+builds#Distributedbuilds-LaunchslaveagentviaJavaWebStart
After adding the node in Jenkins (configured as Java Web Start launch), just make a startup batch script on the node machine:
java -jar slave.jar -jnlpUrl http://{Your Jenkins Server}:8080/computer/{Your Jenkins Node}/slave-agent.jnlp
(slave.jar can be downloaded from http://{Your Jenkins Server}:8080/jnlpJars/slave.jar)
See more answers here:
How to run GUI tests on a jenkins windows slave without remote desktop connection?
In the case of Windows 7 you should not install jenkins as windows application (because in this recent version, Microsoft decided to give services their own hidden desktop even you enable the functionality "interact with desktop" in jenkins service), you may have to deploy it from a war file as follows:
1) Download jenkins.war from Jenkins official site
2) Deploy it by the command prompt : java -jar {directoryOfJenkinsFile}/jenkins.war
3) Now you can access jenkins administration on http:// localhost:8080
Hope that helps you !
this is an issue for Jenkins. on Windows it is possible to access logon user's session (screen) under system account. to make the UI testing visible, Jenkins needs to bypass UAC (user access
control) at background. this solution works for me with my own service running as system account.
I also faced the same issue earlier in my local machine (Windows 10).
My test was running perfectly from the NetBeans but when I moved to Jenkins it was only running in console mode. I was unable to view the UI.
So for that, you just need to make your local machine as a Jenkins slave by creating a new slave node in your Jenkins and select that node to execute the Jenkins job.
If jenkins installed by windows installer it is showing only Console out put only. To see browsers download jenkins.war file and run java -jar jenkins.war from command line.
Go through this site:
http://learnseleniumtesting.com/jenkins-and-continuous-test-execution/
If you have the following situation,
You are able to login to the remote machine
You don't see the Jenkins agent window
This slave machine is accessed by many users then try the following,
then try the following suggestion.
Login to slave machine
Go to Task manager
Users
Logout all the users
Then login again.
This worked for me.
