Issue while setting up a spring maven project in eclipse - spring

I want to set up a maven based spring project using eclipse. The following code block shows the content of my pom.xml file:

I'm getting the following error but don't know why:
cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with
element 'dependencies'.

Your pom is incorrect. You put <dependencies> to <build> section and that's why you get an error.
Try to move <dependencies> from <build> section, so your pom will be something like that:
<dependencies>
...
</dependencies>
<build>
...
</build>
