redux-form only show validation errors on submit - redux-form

Is there a way to configure redux-form so that validation errors only show when the form is submitted?
Also I would like to clear an individual form field error when a user starts typing or makes a change.
Is this possible with redux-form?

You're responsible for rendering any validation errors, so you can configure them only to be visible after submission has failed (i.e. the user pressed submit and your validations came back as failing). For this, your input components wrapped with Field are passed a meta object as a prop that contains a submitFailed field that tells whether form submission has failed. The actual code for rendering that component could look something like this:
render() {
const { meta: { error, submitFailed } } = this.props
return (
// ... rendering the input and then some
{ error && submitFailed ? (
<span className="validation-error">{ error }</span>
) : null }
// ... rendering the rest
)
}
For not showing errors while the user is typing, you're responsible for enabling that behavior and the props passed to your wrapped input component hold the keys, this time the meta object holds a field called active, which tells you whether this input has focus or not. Code could be something like this (building on the previous example):
render() {
const { meta: { active, error, submitFailed } } = this.props
return (
// ... rendering the input and then some
{ !active && (error && submitFailed) ? (
<span className="validation-error">{ error }</span>
) : null }
// ... rendering the rest
)
}
Hope this helps!

I'm also had this problem, the reason was using touchOnChange flag
reduxForm({
form: 'MyForm',
enableReinitialize: true,
touchOnChange: true,
})
So I removed this flag from reduxForm options and the code started working correctly - I saw the validation errors on submit only
reduxForm({
form: 'MyForm',
enableReinitialize: true,
})

React Router Switch Redux Dispatch

I have the below switch statement that routes the user to correct component based on the link they are on.
const Router = (props) => {
switch(props.page) {
case 'Equities' :
this.props.pageName('Equities');
this.props.pageURL('/Equities');
return <Equities />;
case 'Daily' :
return <Daily />;
default :
return ( <Redirect to="/Equities" /> )
}
}
const content = ({ match }) => {
return (
<div className="content">
<Router page={match.params.type} />
</div>
);
}
const mapDispatchToProps = {
pageURL,
pageName
};
export default connect(mapDispatchToProps)(content);
On the 4th line above, I am trying to dispatch an action to Redux to update page name and URL in the redux store that the user is on. I get the below error:
How can I dispatch actions based on the page user is on so I update name and URL to whichever page user is visiting?
So, for anyone experiencing this problem, it seems to be caused by my error on adding redux to the page crashing with the compose module.
My component structure for the app is like this:
App -> Skeleton -> TopBar, Sidebar, Content
So inside Content component I have a switch that displays the correct content for user. I was trying to add this functionality to Content. Now I added to Skeleton, and it works fine and is much better because I don't need to add now 8 different statements inside switch saying if match this do this do that. Now all I have is this.props.pageName(match.url); this.props.pageURL(match.params.type); so I record in redux the user is on and that's all.

Multiple CheckBox Validation using spring JS?

I am creating dynamic Check Boxes in runtime. my requirement is have to validate atleast one checkbox checked or not. am doing this using springJS. But to validate i have to pass checkBox Id to spring Validation, But this ID array creating in runtime. how can i achieve this? i tried all solutions but it did'nt worked for me. i am doing like this it was working if i hardcode checkbox id.
<script type="text/javascript">
Spring.addDecoration(
new Spring.ElementDecoration({
elementId: '_CheckBox_ids',
widgetType: 'dijit.form.CheckBox',
widgetModule: 'dijit.form.CheckBox',
validate: function () {
if (dojo.query("#roo_apiUser_profile > input[type=checkbox]", 'dijit.form').filter(function (n) {
return n.checked;
}).length > 0) {
return true;
} else {
alert('choose at least one profile');
return false;
}
},
widgetAttrs: {
required: true
}
}));
</script>
You may add the onsubmit attribute in your form tag and call a function that does the validation on checkboxes.
Alternately, you may create your own extension of AbstractElementDecoration (defined in spring.js) using dojo.declare and pass to the validate attribute a function that will do the checkboxes validation for you. For elementId you may pass in the id of a div element that contains all the checkboxes. Spring.ValidateAllDecoration calls Spring.validateAll function. Make sure you do the necessary tweaking in your AbstractElementDecoration extension so that there is no exceptions in Spring.validateAll.

AngularJS: Is there any way to determine which fields are making a form invalid?

I have the following code in an AngularJS application, inside of a controller,
which is called from an ng-submit function, which belongs to a form with name profileForm:
$scope.updateProfile = function() {
if($scope.profileForm.$invalid) {
//error handling..
}
//etc.
};
Inside of this function, is there any way to figure out which fields are causing the entire form to be called invalid?
Each input name's validation information is exposed as property in form's name in scope.
HTML
<form name="someForm" action="/">
<input name="username" required />
<input name="password" type="password" required />
</form>
JS
$scope.someForm.username.$valid
// > false
$scope.someForm.password.$error
// > { required: true }
The exposed properties are $pristine, $dirty, $valid, $invalid, $error.
If you want to iterate over the errors for some reason:
$scope.someForm.$error
// > { required: [{$name: "username", $error: true /*...*/},
// {$name: "password", /*..*/}] }
Each rule in error will be exposed in $error.
Here is a plunkr to play with http://plnkr.co/edit/zCircDauLfeMcMUSnYaO?p=preview
For checking which field of form is invalid
console.log($scope.FORM_NAME.$error.required);
this will output the array of invalid fields of the form
If you want to see which fields are messing up with your validation and you have jQuery to help you, just search for the "ng-invalid" class on the javascript console.
$('.ng-invalid');
It will list all DOM elements which failed validation for any reason.
You can loop through form.$error.pattern.
$scope.updateProfile = function() {
var error = $scope.profileForm.$error;
angular.forEach(error.pattern, function(field){
if(field.$invalid){
var fieldName = field.$name;
....
}
});
}
I wanted to display all the errors in the disabled Save button tooltip, so the user will know why is disable instead of scrolling up and down the long form.
Note: remember to add name property to the fields in your form
if (frm) {
disable = frm.$invalid;
if (frm.$invalid && frm.$error && frm.$error.required) {
frm.$error.required.forEach(function (error) {
disableArray.push(error.$name + ' is required');
});
}
}
if (disableArray.length > 0) {
vm.disableMessage = disableArray.toString();
}
For my application i display error like this:
<ul ng-repeat="errs in myForm.$error">
<li ng-repeat="err in errs">{{err.$name}}</li></ul>
if you want to see everything, just user 'err' that will display something like this:
"$validators": {},
"$asyncValidators": {},
"$parsers": [],
"$formatters": [],
"$viewChangeListeners": [],
"$untouched": true,
"$touched": false,
"$pristine": true,
"$dirty": false,
"$valid": false,
"$invalid": true,
"$error": { "required": true },
"$name": "errorfieldName",
"$options": {}
Not this well formatted, but you will see these things there...
When any field is invalid, if you try to get its value, it will be undefined.
Lets say you have a text input attached to $scope.mynum that is valid only when you type numbers, and you have typed ABC on it.
If you try to get the value of $scope.mynum, it would be undefined; it wouldn't return the ABC.
(Probably you know all this, but anyway)
So, I would use an array that have all the elements that need validation that I have added to the scope and use a filter (with underscore.js for example) to check which ones return as typeof undefined.
And those would be the fields causing the invalid state.
If you want to find field(s) which invalidates form on UI without programmatically, just right click inspect (open developer tools in elements view) then search for ng-invalid with ctrl+f inside this tab. Then for each field you find ng-invalid class for, you can check if field is not given any value while it is required, or other rules it may violate (invalid email format, out of range / max / min definition, etc.). This is the easiest way.

Validate $.getJSON before its being sent to the server in JQmobile

I'm trying to Validate my form before it's being sent to the server. I tried couple of J/S plugins for regular validation and none of them seem to work.
I tried looking for getJSON validation method with jquerymobile but haven't seen anything related. Is using $.getJSON the right approach?
Here is a fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/Kimbley/kMsXK/2/
Thanks :D
Code Here:
function mAddBusiness() {
$.getJSON("API.php", {
command: "addBusiness",
bsnName: $("#mBsnName").attr("value"),
bsnCity: $("#mBsnCity").attr("value"),
bsnAddress: $("#mBsnAddress").attr("value"),
bsnMenu: $("#mBsnMenu").attr("value"),
bsnLat: bsnLat,
bsnLong: bsnLong
},
function () {
$("#mBsnName").attr("value", "");
$("#mBsnCity").attr("value", "");
$("#mBsnAddress").attr("value", "");
$("#mBsnMenu").attr("value", "");
alert("Business was added successfully ");
}
);
}
Inside your mAddBusiness() function you can just do your validation before sending the AJAX request. Something like:
function mAddBusiness() {
if ($("#mBsnName").val() !== '') {
$.getJSON("API.php", {
command: "addBusiness",
bsnName: $("#mBsnName").val(),
bsnCity: $("#mBsnCity").val(),
bsnAddress: $("#mBsnAddress").val(),
bsnMenu: $("#mBsnMenu").val(),
bsnLat: bsnLat,
bsnLong: bsnLong
},
function () {
$("#mBsnName").val("");
$("#mBsnCity").val("");
$("#mBsnAddress").val("");
$("#mBsnMenu").val("");
alert("Business was added successfully ");
}
);
} else {
alert('Please enter a business name.');
}
}
Note that you will have to add the data-ajax="false" attribute to the <form> tag in question so that jQuery Mobile does not attempt to submit the form itself.
Also, note that $('input').attr('value') will not return the current value of an input, it will return the initial value before the user had a chance to input anything. To get the current value of a form input, use .val(): http://api.jquery.com/val

How do I repopulate form fields after validation errors with express-form?

Using node.js and express (2.5.9) with express-form.
How should I repopulate form fields with the submitted values?
I have a get and a post route. If there are validation errors when the form is posted, I redirect the user back to the get, the problem is that the repopulated locals don't show up (I do have autoLocals: true, so I assume it's because I am redirecting and res is reset.)
So how do you guys repopulate and what's your application flow, do you res.send instead of res.redirect and set up the whole thing again? That seems repetitive.
Here's an example of my post route:
app.post(
'/projects/:id'
, form(field("title").required("title", "Title is required)
, function (req, res){
if (!req.form.isValid){
res.redirect('/project/'+req.params.id+'/edit');
}
else{
// save to db
}
});
I am working with expressjs4.0 to repopulate the forms fields after validation you do:
router.route('/posts/new')
.get(function(req, res) {
res.render('posts/new', new Post({}));
});
The second argument in res.render below will set some variables in the view.
res.render('posts/new', new Post({}));
In my view I then set my form fields as follows:
...
<input type="text" name="title" value="<%- post.title %>">
<textarea name="article"><%- post.article %></textarea>
...
When you submit this form, it should be caught by your router like so:
router.route('/posts')
.post(function(req, res) {
var post = new Post(req.body)
post.save(function(err) {
if (err) {
res.locals.errors = err.errors;
res.locals.post = post;
return res.render('posts/new');
}
return res.redirect('/posts');
});
...
})
This line of code, resets the form fields in your view
res.locals.post = post;
I hope someone finds this useful ;)
Not sure if it's best practice, but when I have validation failure, I don't redirect I just re-render the view (often by passing control to the 'get' callback). Somethign like this:
function loadProject(req,res, id){ /* fetch or create logic, storing as req.model or req.project */}
function editProject(req,res){ /* render logic */ }
function saveProject(req,res){
if(!req.form.isValid){
editProject(req,res);
}else{
saveToDb(req.project);
res.redirect('/project'+req.project.id+'/edit');
}
}
app.param('id', loadProject);
app.get('/projects/:id/edit', editProject);
app.post('/projects/:id', saveProject);
I had to work on similar problem recently and used two node modules: validator and flashify.
In the form view I configured my form fields as follows:
div.control-group
label.control-label Description
div.controls
textarea(name='eventForm[desc]', id='desc', rows='3').input-xxlarge= eventForm.desc
div.control-group
label.control-label Tag
div.controls
select(id='tag', name='eventForm[tag]')
tags = ['Medjugorje', 'Kibeho', 'Lourdes', 'Fatima']
for tag in tags
option(selected=eventForm.tag == tag)= tag
Notice the naming convention of the form fields. Then in my config file I set one global variable, which is really just a placeholder for when the form first loads:
//locals
app.locals.eventForm = []; // placeholder for event form repopulation
The validation logic is in my router file and looks like this:
app.post('/posts', function(req, res){
var formData = req.body.eventForm;
var Post = models.events;
var post = new Post();
post.text = formData.desc;
post.tag = formData.tag;
// run validations before saving
var v = new Validator();
var isPostValid = true;
// custom error catcher for validator, which uses flashify
v.error = function(msg) {
res.flash('error', msg);
isPostValid = false;
}
v.check(post.text, "Description field cannot be empty").notEmpty();
v.check(post.tag, "Tag field cannot be empty").notEmpty();
Then I check to see there are errors, and if so, pass the form data back to the view:
// reject it
res.render('Event.jade', {page: req.session.page, eventForm: formData});
Notice this evenForm data gets passed back to the view, which repopulates the default values.
The final step is to include the flashify component in your form view.
div(style='margin-top: 60px').container-fluid
include flashify
The code for the flashify view looks like this:
if (flash.error != undefined)
div.container
div.alert.alert-error
b Oops!
button(type='button', data-dismiss='alert').close ×
ul
each error in flash.error
li= error
if (flash.success != undefined)
div.container
div.alert.alert-success
b Success!
button(type='button', data-dismiss='alert').close ×
ul
each success in flash.success
li= success
