Maven tomcat deployment fails (Connection reset by peer) - maven

I was able to deploy my WAR file to tomcat manager using the webapp, but when I try to do it with the maven plugin (tomcat7:deploy) the upload fails after a couple of seconds (~3 megabytes) with this error:
[ERROR] Failed to execute goal

reset by peer: socket write error -> [Help 1]

The relevant bit of the POM is as follows:
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.maven</groupId>
<artifactId>tomcat7-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<url>http://localhost:8080/manager/text</url>
<server>TomcatServer</server>
<update>true</update>
</configuration>
With TomcatServer defined in maven conf/settings.xml as:
<server>
<id>TomcatServer</id>
<username>admin</username>
<password>password</password>
</server>
What might be causing the connection to reset? I increased the timeouts in conf/server.xml, which didn't help.

The maven settings preferences were pointed to the wrong location (they can be changed in eclipse: window -> preferences -> maven -> User Settings). Mine defaulted to /.m2/settings.xml, which didn't exist. it was also helpful to use the redeploy goal, instead of deploy, to clarify that the upload was actually failing immediately.

[ERROR] [Help 1] http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/MAVEN/MojoExecutionException
C:\Users\carbonell>
This may be an old thread, but the answer may still help somebody
Cause:
Issue was happening due to wrong variable -Doracle-maven-sync.oracleHome
Solution:
Please change the flag to -DoracleHome:
mvn -X com.oracle.maven:oracle-maven-sync:push -DoracleHome="your Oracle home dir" -Doracle-maven-sync.testingOnly=false
Your ORACLE_HOME points to the Oracle data base driver. I think you need to point it to the Oracle Middleware (aka Weblogic) directory.
Check that you refer to weblogic's libraries from maven as a dependency in the following way:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.oracle.weblogic</groupId>
<artifactId>weblogic-server-pom</artifactId>
<version>12.1.2-0-0</version>
<type>pom</type>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
Then, you must try this, from this reference:
mvn com.oracle.maven:oracle-maven-sync:push -Doracle-maven-sync.oracleHome=%MW_HOME% -Doracle-maven-sync.testingOnly=false

Do you know why ?
Thanks !
As you can see on the Java Plugin page (in the warning box), the Surefire plugin has been merged into the Java plugin so just remove it from your SonarQube instance.

Unable to bypass "Lock File still present" when attempting to run Selenium JUnit Test in maven build

I am using maven to run JUnit Selenium tests as part of the build. I get the error shown in the stack trace below.
I looked at essentially all other relevant posts out there, but none address the issue of the latest version of Firefox and Selenium (2.4.0) and the issue still happening. Most past posts claim that this issue is fixed with the Selenium 1.0.3 and beyond.
Furthermore, I tried to go to the location of the parent.lock file to delete it as a work-around, but the .lock file was not visible. I tried specifying an alternate firefox profile, but this doesn't seem to matter either.
Why is it not allowing me to open Firefox when it is specifying a .lock file that does not exist? (I have "View hidden files/folders" turned on)
Also, here is my pom.xml's plugin XML:
