Are there any techniques that can be used to log in to a website with JMeter, when you are asked for the x,y,z characters of the password?
edit: a little more info: I'm recording HTTP requests, and for our local environment you just login with the password, which works fine. For the "live" site it asks for random different characters.
In order to implement what you want you have to proceed this way:
Extract from the page that ask the 3 characters using either Regular_Expression_Extractor , CSS/JQuery Extractor or JSON Extractor. This will create for example 2 variables start and end
Then add a JSR223 Post Processor using Groovy to extract the characters required from the password, example:
def start = vars["start"];
def end = vars["end"];
def password = vars["password"]; // This can come from a CSV or be hard coded if it does not change
vars.put("passwordExtract", password.substring(start, end));
You can then use ${passwordExtract} to input the value in next request

We have one URL parameter as "code_challenge" which gets generated at run time, this value we need to extract so that from next runs it can be handled. However since this code value is not captured in any previous requests/responses and need to extract at run time, unable to understand how to achieve.
Tried Regular Extractor choosing URL radio button, but it captures the value from recorded script.
Steps followed:
Record script using Blazmeter (Browse URL xx.com>Click Login)
Redirected to URL(s) in which one of the url has "code_Challenge" parameter with run time value)
First URL is: accounts-xx.com/oauth2/oidcdiscovery/.well-known/openid-configuration> The response doesn't have any parameter values
Second URL is:
https://accounts-xx.com/oauth2/authorize?response_type=code&client_id=zzzz&scope=ituytutut&redirect_uri=xx.com/callBack&code_challenge_method=ooo&**code_challenge=dsfsdlfhl**
In above 3rd point url, Code_challenge value is generated at run time when executed steps from browser.
However If replayed the recorded script which would have already generated code value hence other requests would fail. Due to this, need to get the code value fetched.
The code_challenge is generated from WS02 service.
Jmeter version: 5.3
Please suggest, or should we need to use Selenium webdriver integration.

As per Mitigating Authorization Code Interception Attacks article:
code_challenge The client creates and records a secret cryptographically random string (the code_verifier), which is then encoded using URL safe base64 encoding to transform it into the code_challenge.
As per PKCE in WSO2 IS server article:

If a code_challenge method is mention as plain or not mention at all it will take this plain value. Then code_challenge will like:
code_challenge = code_verifier
2. SHA256:
To have the code_challenge as SHA256, we should mention this in request otherwise plain value will be assumed.For SHA256 code challenge will be like
code_challenge = BASE64URL-ENCODE(SHA256(ASCII(code_verifier)))
Here base64url is same as base64encoding(used so that all machine can identify as same value) but trailing “=” will be removed and “+” & “/” are placed by “-” & “_” to avoid unnecessary length in URL.(otherwise ‘+’ becomes ‘%2B’, ‘/’ becomes ‘%2F’ and ‘=’ becomes ‘%3D in URL)
As much as possible, it is better to select the code challenge method as SHA256 then the flow will become more secure and hard to guess(if someone try to brute force it)
So I think you need to add JSR223 PreProcessor and calculate/generate the code_challenge using the algorithm used by your server in Groovy language, store the value into a JMeter Variable and use it in the request.
You can leave the field value empty and then its value gets updated once the request is sent. But you won't see the value in the request.
I had a similar issue, it worked in my case.
There is a URL which I want to hit and save the response. The URL id needs to be incremented each time and save the response. For example -
First Get Request - http://google.com/getdata/?Id=1
First Response - one
Second Request - http://google.com/getdata/?Id=2
Second Response - two
and so on...
I want to hit the request with increment the id each time and save the response
I have tried using fiddler but unable to figure how to increment the id and save the response.
P.S. - I have to make around 6,00,000 hits
Since the 'Postman' tag is mentioned, I can help you regarding how to implement this in Postman.
Postman has a nice feature of using 'variables'.
You can use environment variables or globals.

You can use a global variable such as 'counter' and set it to 1 / whatever starting point you want.
Then you can modify your request like so :
http://google.com/getdata/?Id={{iteration}}
Now, in the Tests script of the request you can write the following script
let i = parseInt(pm.globals.get('iteration')) + 1;
pm.globals.set('iteration', i);
Also, to access the response you can use the following command in Test script:
console.log(pm.response); // Use pm.response as per your needs
Save the request in a collection.
Now load the Postman's Runner and select the collection.
Now you can put an iteration count of 6,00,000 and hit run!
Remember, heavy iterations will cause performance degradation.
In JMeter you need to click , Ctrl+0 and Ctrl+1 to create , Thread Group and HTTP Request
In Thread Group put the number of hits you need in Number of Threads (users)
In HTTP Request Put in Server Name or IP www.google.com and in Path /getdata/?Id=${__threadNum}
__threadNum will create increasing number from thread 1 to number of hits.
For small number of hits or debugging you can add View Results Tree to view request/response by clicking Ctrl+9 in Test Plan/Thread Group level.
To save the response use Post Processor, especially by adding Regular Expression Extractor below HTTP Request by clicking Ctrl+2.

As a post-processor, this element will execute after each Sample request in its scope, applying the regular expression, extracting the requested values, generate the template string, and store the result into the given variable name.
Import to notice that for load testing you need to work with non GUI mode, which means call jmeter using command line as jmeter -n -t myTest.jmx
you will use Command-line mode (called Non-GUI mode) to run it for the Load Test.
Don't run load test using GUI mode !
For saving all responses to a one file see save response data or if you want to save file per thread/user you can add Save Responses to a file
Fiddler:
Open script editor (Control + r ) then add the following code inside OnBeforeResponse

Go to the "Composer" tab and include the header X-SAVE-ME with any value, in the URL, replace your ID with # (just like this: http://google.com/getdata/?Id=#) fiddler will now ask for the starting and ending value of ID before executing;

Scenario_Testplan
First, go to user properties and put "sample_variables = ID, Response_File_Name" or whatever the name you choose for the variables. Restart jmeter.
Create the below plan:-
CSV data set config to have incremental values and response file name
HTTP request will use ${ID}
Save response to a file will use ${Response_File_Name}

I would do this by command line, using a while loop with a curl to the URL, storing the body result on the standard output to a file. It would look something like this:

I couldn't test the line above because I don't have any access to a console right now, but I think it should work.
In Burp you can do this using the Intruder tool. First, capture a sample request in Burp. If you're unsure how to do this, please consult the getting started documentation.
Then right-click the request and selected "Send to Intruder".
In the Positions tab within Intruder, first click "Clear" then select the section you want to vary, and click "Add"
In the Payloads tab select the Payload type as "Numbers" and configure the range.

One Another solution is that you can use Counter in jmeter. That you can find from below path
Thread Group > configElement > Counter.
Configure the Counter as per your need.
Give the Reference Name i for counter.

I am recording Login in Jmeter. Password has '#'. Jmeter recorded exact string but when i run the same, '#' is converted to '%40ss' and login is getting failed(login is failing even if i pass parameters through csv file). But if we pass parameters through jmeter Body Data, Login is successful. I dont want to pass through Body Data, i want to send parameters through CSV file. How to achieve this. My expectation is that it is only a matter of representation, i.e. when I run similar request using a sniffer tool like Wireshark I can see # sign as a part of form data.
Most probably your problem lies somewhere else, i.e. you haven't correlated this __RequestVerificationToken or haven't added HTTP Cookie Manager.
When it comes to load testing ASP.NET web applications you cannot just record and replay your test, you need to perform correlation of dynamic parameters, check out ASP.NET Login Testing with JMeter article for more details.
Lakshmikanth, when you are passing any special character in parameters values then JMeter converts that character into percent-encoding for eg. '#' converts to '%40', '!' converts to '%21'.
To overcome this issue you can pass your password as it is [say P#ssword] in the .csv file but in your request you need to uncheck the encode checkbox corresponding to your password parameter.

I don't know where your generated random UUID comes from but supposing you have put it (through CSV Reader or some extractor) in variable randomUUID and that it's accessible through:

use a Response Assertion in the following configuration:

Check JMeter Variable and enter randomUUID
Fill in the correct regexp for your UUID (you will have to create it)
If your regular expression does not work, I would try to add capital letters, and make it more generic:

I am getting a UUID in Response when I call a 'GET' Rest Service. And I need to validate it for every iteration.
Here is what I have tried with Reg Exp and

It kind of works but the problem here is the if i change this [0-9a-f]{8} to [0-9a-f]{7} or any other number <8 its still works fine
Even If i change this [0-9a-f]{12} to [0-9a-f]{10} or any other number <12 its still works fine
I'm using JMeter to stress test an API. I've got Basic Authentication set up - seems to be working great.
Now, i'm trying to randomize the credentials that JMeter passes across the wire. So, there's two ways I know I can do this.
Add a custom HTTP Header (via an HTTP Header Manager Element) and set then value to the random fields (ie. something I've read in from a csv file)
Use the HTTP Authorization Manager Element and pass in the username and password there.
Now, if I try and use method (1) above, I need to create the following header/data :-
Authorization: Basic <some Base64 encoded string in the format username:password>
eg.
Authorization: Basic OnVzZXIxOnBhc3Mx
Kewl. simple. BUT that header value is not getting passed across the wire :( I can add any other header type and it's passed across the wire..
hmm .. ok then .. lets try method (2).
Now that works .. but I can only hardcode in the username & password. I can't see how I can pass in a username VARIABLE (ie. ${usernmae} ) or a password VARIABLE (ie. ${password} ).... If it's hardcoded, then the server correctly replies with the correct page/data.
so .. can someone please help?
I would recommend trying the following:
Create a HTTP Authorization Manager Element
Setup the username and password to be variables, ${username} , ${password}
Create a CSV file with your usernames and passwords (do not use a header row)
create a CSV Data Set Config Element, with the variable names set to "username,password" (no quotes, and no space after the comma)
Each thread/loop will read a different value from the CSV file.
Alternately, if you want the value to be truely random for the login, there are some functions you can use to generate random numbers or send in the time of execution.
