I've recently switched to Chrome as my default browser. Ever since, I always get notifications to update flash player, the official adobe installer launches, I hit download, and nothing happens.
What is going on? How do I stop this from happening? How do I get flash updated? When I go to chrome://components/ and click update on Flash I get "component not updated". Any ideas?
I do use Chrome on OS X and also on windows. I don't have any issues on windows, but on mac I always get these update prompt.
I downloaded the uninstaller for flash from here and used it to uninstall from my system. Chrome seems to run its own instance of Flash, so that seemed to work so far.

During my work-from-home days, I use a Mac Mini at home to access my Mac workstation in my office through a VPN set up by my IT department at work.
When I use OSX's Screen Sharing at home to control my workstation, does my workstation in my office display what I'm seeing & doing on the screen share at home, or is the screen still blank? If someone is in my office, can they see what I'm doing?
Assuming your remote workstation's monitor is turned on, everything you do remotely is visible on that monitor and anyone physically present there will be able to see what you are doing.

I have a mac user who recently upgraded to El Capitan. We've been trying to install Notes on her machine. It installs but when we try and launch it, a window comes up saying that Notes is starting 'please wait' then just closes and nothing happens. I called IBM support but they have not been able to figure this out. They had me look for a 'preferences' file which should be in the Library folder (they say) but that apparently is not getting created. I was able to find a Data directory in 'IBM Notes > Contents>Resources>English.iproj>Data' and it is populated with a bunch of templates so it does seem to be getting installed. The user has admin privs on the machine. Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks!

Found the problem: Old files that were not removed by the uninstaller were apparently causing the problem. I deleted the Notes folder then the install went ahead. It complained about not having the names.nsf file but I retrieved it from the trash and it worked.

It was my default browser previously but it doesnt work anymore. please see screenshot of the settings below.
This is a secondary installation of Google Chrome, and cannot be made
your default browser.
Seems like other people have encountered this issue already.
One solution I found here (pre-yosemite):
For Mac users all you need to do is run Safari and then head to preferences and change the “Default web browser” to Canary from the dropdown menu.
And this has been asked on superuser for windows as well, and this is mentioned for yosemite:
In OSX Yosmite 10.10.3 - System Preferences -> General -> Default web browser (set to Google Chrome Canary)
Does any of the above work for you?

I've installed a monitoring web app to a client a while ago. We use Firefox to run it and it appears that we keep having a "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" popup on the client side. Sometimes it works well, and sometimes, we're not even able to restart Firefox.
As we're on a Ubuntu system, I can do a
killall -9 firefox && firefox
to restart Firefox but I would prefer to know why this problem is happening.
Do you know how I can investigate this issue ? Are they some Firefox dev-mods or crash logs I can enable to get some infos about why it's not responding ?
Some technical stuff about the web app which could help I suppose:
- it's working with Django 1.5 threw Apache2
- it uses ajax with Mootools to refresh regularly (it's a monitoring system)
Thanks in advance, and tell me if you need any other details
Finally I figured out what was wrong : we were using a VNC connexion to see X and it appears that Firefox has difficulties managing display on two X instances

I bought my mom this cheap dell for use in her kitchen. She literally does nothing but facebook games, youtube, and email on this computer.
She keeps getting an error about:
api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll
The only problem, is that the error message appears and then within a few seconds the entire system just shuts down. So I'm not sure if its missing this .dll, or what specifically the issue is. There is nothing particularly wrong with the computer except that sometimes it just randomly displays this message then shuts down.
Is there an easy fix? Or should I just wipe the drive and reinstall windows?
I just went ahead and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the system.
