How to enable and disable ServiceHub.exe components in Visual Studio 2017 - visual-studio

How can I disable it?
In the following screenshot you can see six processes that all begin with ServiceHub. These start when I start Visual Studio 2017 Community. Annoyingly, they do not stop when I exit Visual Studio 2017 Community. I would like to know how to disable these so that they do not start in the first place.
How can I enable it?
What turns these on?
Screenshot

First Workaround:
Tools > Options > Text Editor > JavaScript/TypeScript > Language Service...
Uncheck Enable the new JavaScript language service.
OR:
Tools > Extensions and Updates > TypeScript for Microsoft Visual Studio > Disable
Second Workaround:
Rename ServiceHub.Host.Node.x86.exe and if you want to enable it just rename to original file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Enterprise\Common7\ServiceHub\Hosts\ServiceHub.Host.Node.x86\

Visual Studio 2017 - Node.JS Server Process - Turn off?

Those errors happened when I was using Visual Studio Installer (after downloading the packages I selected) which was opened through the option to install more project templates (New Project window) in Visual Studio.
I just closed Visual Studio and the conflicts were gone from the Installer allowing the installation to proceed normally.

VisualStudio not saving Startup Window

Since a few weeks I have had this infuriating problem.
Whenever I start VS it opens an empty environment.
I tried to change that in Options > Environment > Startup from "Empty environment" to "Start window". After pressing "OK" I restarted VS completely and reopened it. Again: a new empty environment opens.
After reinstalling VS several times now I gave up and want to know, if someone had a similar problem and knows a fix for this problem.
Visual Studio Enterprise 2019 (16.8.3)
Installed Workloads from VS-Installer:
ASP.NET and web development
Azure development
Python development
.NET desktop development
Desktop development with C++
Data storage and processing
.NET Core cross-platform development
Additional Extensions:
JetBrains ReSharper 2020.2.4
Visual Studio Tools for Tizen
*all the extensions are up-to-date
After MONTHS I finally found a solution. I basically tried to uninstall all extensions and discovered that this issue only occurs while ReSharper is installed. I didn't find anything regarding this on the internet, therefore I searched all of the options and I finally found the issue!
If you have the same issue and have ReSharper installed (currently 2020.3.3) open Visual Studio and go to Extensions/ReSharper/Options. A new window will pop up. Then navigate to Environment/Performance Guide and under the group Visual Studio preferences affecting performance you'll find the item Show empty environment at startup. Set it from Fix Silently to Ignore. Click Save and close this window.
Additionally, you have reset the specific Visual Studio option. Therefore open Tools/Options and navigate to Environment/Startup and set the On startup, open: to Start window. Click OK and restart Visual Studio to check if the Start Window now gets displayed correctly.

Integrate ESLint with Visual Studio 2015

I am using ESLint for JavaScript. I installed it in my machine and am able to run and check for the errors in the file that I want to. Everything is good but if I have to use it only from command prompt I have to manually run this for each file or a folder. I am thinking about integrating this into Visual Studio so that when I run it like "Run ESLint on solution" it will give a list of warnings/errors for all the JS files in the solution. Even if we can't do that, is it possible to select a file and to run ESLint on that file in Visual Studio 2015?
I added ESLint to external tools in Visual Studio:
But when I run it, it's not showing any errors or anything. It is just showing the details of the help command. How do I run this on a particular file?
Web Analyzer extension has now been built in to Visual Studio in the .NET Core Tooling Preview 1
Follow the link to download the installer for
.NET Core Tooling Preview 1
You can install Web Analyzer extension as well, but after the restart you will get a prompt:
You can use WebAnalyzer plugin for Visual Studio, which does JavaScript linting through ESLint. It should highlight javascript errors every time you save your file, so it's a bit nicer then doing it through the menu. If you don't want to use plugin, you can setup a new menu item in the Tools > External Programs menu. Make sure to use ESLint's visual studio formatter that should allow you to double-click on the error and have Visual Studio take you to the line where the error occurred.

Unable to start debugging because the object invoked has disconnected from its clients

I'm running Visual Studio 2012 (version 11.0.61030.00 update 4). When debugging a local console application I get the following error when I start debugging (F5):
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
This only happens if I leave visual studio alone without debugging for a couple minutes. If I close visual studio and re-open the error goes away (until I leave it untouched for another couple of minutes). Has anyone experienced this? I can't find any threads of other people experiencing it.
This may be a possible answer for the problem.
Some from the answer:
Check which files were changed (why and how) after update from a source control engine
Review the list of extensions and plugins. Try to disable all or some of them
Close Visual Studio and kill all the development processes: devenv, mspdbsrv, vcpkgsrv, msbuild, msvsmon, vshub, vstest etc
Remove .suo, .ncb, .VC.db, .VC.VC.opendb files of the solution as well as .vs directory, which sometimes cause problems
Remove project setting files, sort of YourProjectName.vcproj.DOMAINNAME.LOGINNAME.user or YourProjectName.csproj.user. The setting file name depends on a project kind you use
Run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup for x64 environment
Just Close the VIsual Studio and start again the project. Its work Perfectly for me.
Thanks
While restarting Visual Studio does provide a workaround, it doesn't solve the actual problem. In my case, I was working with a C# solution in VS2017 and the following resolved the issue:
Close Visual Studio
Delete the .vs folder that was created in the Solution's directory
Re-open the Solution
I corrupted my App.config file with NLog settings without section Handler in the top of the document. Gist is check out your config file settings either corrupted in format or not properly handled any section. once I remove corrupted config section, it did not raise the error again (VS 2017)
Hope it helps!
In my case I have just reinstalled Windows 10 and so the Visual Studio 2022..
My project was targeting .net 5 SDK, but I only had .net 6 SDK installed. The solution was to install earlier version of the SDK.

How to handle Visual Studio 2010 Not Responding?

First of all, I am not asking the same question here. ( This may be a duplicate post on Stack Overflow.) I have searched other solutions on MSDN, ASP .NET Forum, Stack Overflow, Code Project and everywhere on internet. But none of them solved my problem. These are the links that I found:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kirillosenkov/archive/2012/01/11/vs-hangs-for-1-minute-on-start-debugging-check-for-dead-symbol-paths.aspx
http://www.codeproject.com/Questions/272109/Visual-Studio-2010-Hangs-When-Debugging-App
And a lot more...
My CPU is 4th Generation Intel Core i7 and memory capacity is 8 GB. I think it is more than recommended hardware requirements.
Problem:
My visual studio hangs on these situations.
Opening a solution (Hangs for a minute when I open a file from solution explorer)
Running the debugging (Freezes consistently when I click on debug button) and
Stopping the debugging (Freezes immediately after the UI returns to the Developer layout after debugging)
I have tried the following steps:
I ensured that I deleted all the breakpoints in the solution.
I ensured that I am not using any resources from network drive.
I ensured Step over properties is enabled.
I ensured Enable .NET Framework source stepping is NOT enabled.
I start visual studio with SafeMode to suppress extensions
I cleared watch window.
I cleaned and rebuilt the solution.
Before I encounter this problem, I installed "Install Web Components" Visual Studio Add-In a few weeks ago. May be because of extensions and add-ins?
How can I do it to solve my problem?
If you suspect that Visual Studio settings get corrupted after installing "Install Web Component" bundle, why don't you try to reset the settings?
You can perform the steps below to reset Visual Studio settings:
Open Visual Studio Command Prompt (2010) under Start menu > All Programs > Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 > Visual Studio Tools (Run it with Administrator privilege: Right-click the program > Run as administrator)
Run devenv /Resetsettings to restore the IDE's default settings, optionally resets to the specified VSSettings file.
Run devenv /ResetSkipPkgs to clear all SkipLoading tags added to VSPackages.
Run devenv /Safemode to see if you can apply it correctly. This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems.
Open your solution in Safemode and see whether it works.
Found this to happen also when the solution is connected to a Team Foundation Server and the service is not available at the moment, so the solution could not connect. In this case do not end the Visual Studio instance and wait until a message box show up giving the option to Go Offline. This is usually associated with the "Visual Studio is waiting for an operation to complete...." notification message.
My solution was simply to reload a saved GOOD (backup) copy of my settings (made a year ago). Worth trying before resetting everything to blank. My VS2010 would take 60 seconds to start debugging and approx. 3 minutes to stop debugging. I saved the corrupted settings and to my surprise they were over 3MB instead of 260Kb. I loaded the good backup copy and everything is great again :-)
If Visual Studio doesn't respond only when attempting to open solutions, then open a raw instance of Visual Studio then Reset Settings
Check How to: Reset Your Settings from the Tools Menu
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms247075%28v=vs.90%29.aspx
This is Visual Studio 2013 and Windows 8.1
Open developer command prompt.
Start -> All programs -> Visual Studio -> Visual studio tools -> developer command prompt
Make sure that you don't have any pending changes that need to be checked in.
run this command : "tf workspace /delete 'your workspace/ machine name'"
yes for removing the unnecessary pending changes if at all present.

set property 'system.windows.resourcedictionary.deferrablecontent' threw an exception

I'm running Visual Studio 2012, when I add a new File/Reference to a project the message box appears showing the error message
set property 'system.windows.resourcedictionary.deferrablecontent' threw an exception
I read an MSDN article suggesting to run the command devenv /resetuserdata on visual studio command prompt to resolve this problem, tried it but didn't work for me. In fact the command prompt shows the Unknown Error message.
Some addins cause this issue for me so have had to workaround it whenever it occurs:
In Vis studio -
Tools > Options > Environment > Add-in Security, uncheck 'Allow Add-in components to load', OK
Restart vis studio
The error shouldn't occur anymore, so go back to
Tools > Options > Environment > Add-in Security and re-check Allow Add-in components to load, OK
To be specific, I get this error when trying to add files to projects and manage Nuget Packages.
Update
I now make a point of opening
'Tools > Nuget package manager > Manage nuget packages for solution'
whenever I open up a new instance of Vis studio, before loading a solution, just to make sure the window loads properly
That way I know I won't get this issue.
In my case it was a style with the same key defined twice in a ResourceDictionary (WPF)
I have Windows azure tools for Microsoft VisulStudio 2013- v2.2 and Windows azure tools for Microsoft lightswitch VisulStudio 2013- v2.2.
I uninstall only Windows azure tools for microsoft lightswitch vs 2013 .
It's working fine...
I fixed it. The resolution was to remove the Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio 2012 which I was not actually using, and the error went straight away.
In my case it was to first launch Visual Studio in safe mode. You can create a shortcut for visual studio with a target like this:
'"F:\Program Files\Visual Studio\VS2013\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" -safemode'
Once launched in safe mode, you can remove the problematic extension via the Addin Manager. However, this wont work for some extensions, as the uninstall option might be disabled for certain extensions when running in safe mode, particularly if you have already uninstalled another extension in the same session.
In My case the problem was caused by Paradox Game engine, in which I had uninstalled it via 'Programs and Features' - which in return did not remove the extension which was originally installed via Nuget package. Uninstalling Paradox via "Programs And Features" left the extension itself still registered in Visual Studio, presumably causing a hidden NullReferenceException.
This issue can be caused by any extension that may have an error in it, or by extensions that were not properly uninstalled.
Also, see this article...
The mentioned issue can be resolved by simply restart the Visual Studio. :P
Also seem to be able to get around this by closing the project and vis studio instance, re-opening, then when the start page/open project screen appears selecting Tools > Extensions and Updates..., then pressing Close
Now open the project and the error doesn't get thrown when trying add files or manage nuget packages, weird.
Just annoying you have to remember to open Extensions and Updates each time...
Other wise make sure given Resourcedictionary.xaml path is correct or not
I had to remove Xamarin from Add/Remove Programs in Control panel and restart Visual studio to fix this.
I had this problem with My Devexpress Project in VS 2015
What finally worked for me was.
Close my solution,
Close Visual Studio,
Open Visual Studio,
Create a New dummy project,
Add a form to it,
Close and save the new project,
Reopen original project and all was ok.
for everyone else who are working in silverlight sdk environment with windows phone8 sdk.
The versions of sliverlight which are compatible with visual studio versions -
vs2012- sliverlight sdk 4
vs2013- silverlight sdk 5
I was integrating in vs2013 and as soon as I updated it with silverlight sdk 5, The errors went away.
In my case it was the Line Endings: you can have different formatting and by copy pasting some code one file got a different Line Ending. It was enough to File > Save As and then click the little arrow next to the save button.
Then click on save with encoding and choose the one you are using in all other files.
See Andrew Truckle's answer.
I hope this helps
