Check if NSColorPanel is 'sampling'? - cocoa

In NSColorPanel the user can click on the pipette symbol to sample a colour from anywhere on the screen.
Our app uses popovers to ask for optional data (like color) that we hide once the user clicks outside of the popover.
However if an NSColorPanel is launched from the popover to pick a color and the user selects the pipette to sample a color it would be valid to click anywhere on screen to sample the color - while the 'sampling' mode is active.
The NSColorPanel doesn't appear to provide a way to query the mode, though..
Is there any way (API, notifications, KVO, ..) to find out whether the panel is currently in sampling mode, i.e. a click outside of our popover is supposed to sample a color, not make the popover go away..?

Firemonkey TComboColorBox hiding color picker

Is there a way, after selection of a color, to programmatically hide the color picker of the TComboColorBox? I've searched on the web and Embarcadero community but couldn't find a way to do this.
The answer is no, there is no designed way to hide (collapse) the popup programmatically. And you did not explain why you think it would be necessary to have.
Keep in mind that there are 4 subcontrols, that the user may want to use:
a THueTrackBar,
an alpha channel trackbar,
a color quad, and
a hex color value edit box.
An automatic collapse of the popup would be just annoying.
The user can at any time decide to close the popup simply by clicking on the constantly visible bar.

After your answer, I realized that I must implement a color picker component that shows a rect containing a TComboColorBox and a TButton as childs. Clicking the child button, in turn, hides the container rect itself.
I have told you twice that the user can close the popup part of the TComboColorBox simply by clicking on the component (the base part of it).
In fact, the user can click anywhere outside of the popup window in order to close the popup window. The popup is closed immediately when the focus moves away from it.
In my opinion there's no need for a special "Close" button.

macOS, changing the size of a view controller by dragging

The user clicks a button and I present a new viewController as show.
Inside that VC there is a AVPlayerView, the same size as the VC.
The app itself can change size if the user drags any of its corners but the VC displaying the movie cannot.
Why things like that that should work by default, don't work as expected? What can be done to make this work?
Example:
This is the main app.
I can drag its corners and make it bigger or small. I can click on the green semaphore and make it full screen and it works fine.
When I press the Help icon, this "window" appears. It is a viewController that was added the story board.
This cannot be scaled. It "appears" to be a window, because it contains a semaphore. I cannot scale this but I can make it full screen by the green semaphore.
Note: I have added the view to a WindowController and now when the user presses the Help button this window controller is launched and the video appears. No change. Video cannot be scaled.
Found the problem.
I had to add a window controller controlling that View Controller.
View controller was not resizing even after #1.
Then I found that I could not have
self.preferredContentSize = CGSize(width: 940,height: 504)
inside awakeFromNib.
Now it works perfectly.
"The app itself can change size" –– what you're saying is that the window can be resized by the user.
"but the VC displaying the movie cannot" –– Again in this case, you're not trying to resize a view controller, you're trying to resize a window. The window contains your view controller.
The reason the window can't be resized is probably due to the layout constaints. I imagine there must be constraints somewhere in the view hierarchy which specifies that the video player (or some other view) has a specific width and height. Because it's a constant value, the window can't resize.

Button not showing in .nib file

So I downloaded CircleView and tried to change the code. The program came with a button, color wheel, 2 sliders, and a view. When ever I add anything (Slider, button, textfield), on run time the things I added wouldn't show up. What am I not doing?

As you can see, the button and textfield doesn't appear during run time.
By default, when you add a button, the autoresizing mask (aka "springs and struts") are set to the following:
That means that when you resize the window, the button you added will stay in the same spot it originally was, instead of being "pulled" down with the edge of the window. This could potentially cause the buttons or textfields you added to be hidden behind the circle view once you resize the window large enough.
To prevent that from happening you'll want to change the autoresizing mask of the items to be "pinned" to the bottom edge of the window, so that they look like in the following image:
To do that, click on the red I bar at the top of the square to remove it, and then click on the lower I area to turn it on.
Note that you can also select multiple buttons or textfields at one time to change them all at the same time.

How make button in NSWindow clickable while a sheet's on top of it

I have created a custom (themed) NSWindow, by creating a borderless window and then recreating all elements of the window border/background inside the content view. I've created the window widgets (close box, zoom box, minimize box) on top of my own fake title bar using -standardWindowButton:forStyleMask:.
Trouble is, when a sheet is presented on top of my custom window (e.g. "save changes...", those buttons do not receive the clicks.
Does anybody know how I can tell NSWindow not to intercept the clicks in my minimize box? It works with a standard NSWindow. When a sheet is up, I can still send both of them to the dock, or zoom the window out.
I thought maybe there's special code in the content view that ignores clicks in subviews while a sheet is up. But it seems as if -hitTest: is called on the content view and returns the minimize widget, but the widget's action never gets triggered.
I guess I could just replace the content view and perform the action in the content view's hitTest if it is the minimize widget ... but that seems a bit ugly.

Xcode uibutton pressed feedback

I have a number of UIButtons in my app. They are of type custom and are filled with images downloaded from the web. On some pages, when I press a button, it goes darker and so the user knows it has been pressed. On other pages though, nothing happens, and it can sometimes feel like the app is not responding to the user's touch. Is there a way to hard code feedback on button pressed?
UIButton has a property adjustsImageWhenHighlighted, which can be set to YES in order to provide some basic feedback (the image is drawn lighter when the button is highlighted).
By setting showsTouchWhenHighlighted to YES you can get a small highlight indicating a touch on the button.
Other than that you can set different images for different states via - setImage:forState: and - setBackgroundImage:forState:, e.g. for UIControlStateHighlighted or UIControlStateSelected.
