I need to generate random number in specific range for postman.
I wonder if there is possible to generate it and to use it in variable in postman, from what I saw at postman site is:
{{$randomint }}
will give random number between 1-1000
and I already tried to do something like this:
{{$randomint(1,5)}}
to get number between 1-5 but postman didn't get this kind of option, so how to specify range for the random in postman?
You can just use Lodash for this as it's a built-in module:
pm.environment.set("random_number", _.random(1, 5))
Or just add the number 5 to the _.random() function and this will be a number from 0 to 5.
This worked for me:
In your Pre-request script define your variable with:
pm.globals.set('randomNumber', Math.floor(Math.random() * 5));
Then in your URL call your variable in the URL like so:
{{randomNumber}}
Hope this works for you.
A little late.
But none of the above answers worked for me.
I solved it by setting a variable in pre-request tab.
Example:
pm.collectionVariables.set ("randomNum", _.random (20,100));
Then use the variable name in the body of my request (like any other variable)
{
"number": {{randomNum}}
}
Finally, this generates a new number between the desired values in each request
Just use the modulo operation:
const num = pm.variables.replaceIn('{{$randomInt}}') % 5 + 1;
pm.environment.set("random_number", num);
// test
console.log(pm.variables.get('random_number'));

I want to return the value of "Yield:" from a series of stocks from a URL dividenhistory.org, for example HDIF into a Google sheet using IMPORTXML, where F7 represents the user supplied ticker.
=IMPORTXML("https://dividendhistory.org/payout/TSX/"&F7, "/html/body/div/div[2]/div[2]/p[4]")
The problem with the above is the yield value is not always located in the same paragraph, depending on the ticker. It also returns with the word "Yield:" as part of the value.
I believe I should be using the XPATH parameter which should find and return the yield value only, but I am lost. I am open to all suggestions!
I tried with a few of the tickers there, and this should work. For example:
=IMPORTXML("https://dividendhistory.org/payout/ctas/", "//p[contains(.,'Yield')]/text()")
Output:
Yield: 1.05%
Obviously, you can change 'ctas' for any user input.
Try this and see if it works on all tickers.
EDIT:
To get only the number 1.05, you need to split the result and output the 2nd part:
=index(split(IMPORTXML("https://dividendhistory.org/payout/ctas/", "//p[contains(.,'Yield')]/text()"), ": "),2)
Output:
0.0105
Context: I want to use the __chooseRandom function to embed a randomly chosen value in a URI path.
Problem: I can't figure out how to use the __chooseRandom function properly. With the below example, the URL I get is 'https://google.com/search?q=&iter=${__chooseRandom(1111,2222,iter)}' instead of https://google.com/search?q=1111 or https://google.com/search?q=2222
Question: How should I modify the JMeter script so the request path gets a value from chooseRandom instead of directly embedding the chooseRandom string?
Not Working Example:
If I got your problem properly you are trying to generate a random value at the end of that URL from a set of variables (numbers).
You can try to follow these steps:
add User Defined Variables -> Right click on Test Plan -> Add -> select Config Element -> User Defined Variables
Add following variables (Change values and variables names depending on your needs)
Name: Value:
num1 111
num2 222
num3 333
num4 444
Then all you have to do now is to use this ${__V(num${__Random(1,4,)})}
This function will actually get the value of each variable name that starts with "num" and ends with a random value between 1 and 4 (value of num1 = 111 , the value of num3 = 333 ...)
PS: I tried using this as a JSON parameter
Body Data:
{
"iter" : ${__V(num${__Random(1,6,)})}
}
It looks like that URL path is being evaluated before request parameter.
You need to call the __chooseRandom() function either somewhere before the HTTP Request sampler or get rid of this ${iter} variable and use __chooseRandom() function directly in the request path.
/search?q=${__chooseRandom(1111,2222,iter)}

How to Use the Custom JMeter Functions Plugin
I have a request in Jmeter that I need to loop until I find the result I am looking for. I have read a few bits about a while controller but found them unhelpful as they seem to glance over vital information or are using an older version of Jmeter
I'm currently using Jmeter 5.0, and I have attempted to implement a while controller but failed as I think I do not understand how to properly handle the response, or even grab it, and then use it as a comparison to assert if the item exists.
I get a response from the HTTP request call response that looks a little somthing like this:
{"data":{"getIDs":{"Page": 1,"PageSize": 25,"PageCount": 1,"isFirstPage": true,"batches":[{"id":"b601a257-13fe-4de3-b779-a5922e89765a"},{"id":"b601a257-13fe-4de3-b779-a5922e89765b"},{"id":"b601a257-13fe-4de3-b779-a5922e89765c"}]}}
I need to recall the endpoint until I have found the ID I am looking for or cancel after 10 attempts
So after a bit of fumbling around I, I figured on my own answer that seems to work well. But I would suggest looking at other sources before taking mine as gospel.
The basic structure looks as follows:
Within a thread I set the variables then create the while loop as the next step. Within the While loop I created a counter then added the request I wanted to loop after. To make the loop work for me, I have three items sat under the request.
A Response Assertion: this check for a 200 status as the call should never fail
A Constant Timer: There is a delay between polls of the end point
A JSR223 Assertion: groovy code used ensure the while loop logic is handled
User Defined Variables:
Here i have setup two variables:
DONE: Done is a string value I alter if my JSR223 Assertion finds the values I'm looking for in the HTTP request
MyValue (this is dynamically driven in my actual test, for demo purpose, I’m just declaring a value to look for i.e. 12345)
While Controller:
I still feel i may not understand this correctly, however after some googling I came across the following code that works for me despite some errors in the JMeter console:
${__javaScript(("${DONE}" != "yep" && ${Counter} < 10),)}
This code is saying that the while loop will continue until either of these two conditions are met:
DONE, the variable created earlier, is equal to the value yep
Counter is less than 10 (Counter is declared beneath the while loop)
Counter:
this was a simple configuration step that just worked once I understood it needed to be within the while loop, i configured the following:
Starting value = 1
Increment = 1
Exported Variable Name = Counter
Ticked 'Track Counter independently for each user'
Ticked 'Reset counter on each thread group iteration'
(Exported Variable Name: you can call this whatever you want, I’ve named it counter for the purpose of this demo)
JSR223 Assertion:
This is a simple script assertion that just uses a Boolean and a couple of if statements to assert the state of the test.
import org.apache.commons.lang3.StringUtils;
def done = vars.get("DONE");
String response = prev.getResponseDataAsString(); //retrieves the http request response as text
String MyValue = vars.get("MyValue");
def counter = vars.get("Counter");
//Find Substring within response string and stor result as boolean
String container = response;
String content = MyValue;
boolean containerContainsContent = StringUtils.containsIgnoreCase(container, content);
//Check if the true condition is met and change the value so the loop exits
if (containerContainsContent == true){
log.info("------------------------Got Here");
vars.put("DONE", "yep");
}
//Force test to fail after 10 loops
if (Counter.toString() == "10"){
assert 1 == 2
}
I would like to read values from a select query and use the values sequentially in a API call.
Since the database values get stored as var_1, var_2 ... var_N
So how do i increment the number for the variable?
I used a counter and pre processor to increment the number in variable
vars.put ("email", "email"+"_"+vars.get("counter"))
But the final variable is not getting replaced by the value from the select query
eg select query result from a debug sampler
email_1=hata.pd.h13u#yopmail.com
email_2=hata.pd.h13u#yopmail.com
email_3=hataiot.test13#mailinator.com
email_4=hataiot.test12#mailinator.com
--combining the variable and counter:
vars.put ("email", "email"+"_"+vars.get("counter"))
--using the variable in the API post body
{
"username":"${email}",
"password":"test1234"
}
Actual result:
POST data:
{
"username":"email_1",
"password":"test1234"
}
Expected result:
{
"username":"hata.pd.h13u#yopmail.com",
"password":"test1234"
}
TIA
${__V(email_${counter})}
Try this one, see also the documentation: http://jmeter.apache.org/usermanual/functions.html#what_can_do
Note that variables cannot currently be nested; i.e. ${Var${N}} does not work. The __V (variable) function can be used to do this: ${__V(Var${N})}. You can also use ${__BeanShell(vars.get("Var${N}")}.
Have you considered using ForEach Controller? It's super-handy for iterating the variables from extractors or JDBC test elements.
If you still want to continue with the current approach you need to change this line:
vars.put ("email", "email"+"_"+vars.get("counter"))
to this one:
vars.put ("email", vars.get("email"+"_"+vars.get("counter")))
Because you're putting into email variable stuff like email_1, email_2, etc. instead of actual ${email_1} variable value.

How to Retrieve Database Data for API Testing with JMeter
Below is the code which i have been trying to address the below UseCase in JMETER.Quick help is appreciated.
Usecase:
A particular text like "History" in a page response needs to be validated and the if the text counts is more than 50 a random selection of the options within the page needs to be made.And if the text counts is less than 50 1st option needs to be selected.
I am new to Jmeter and trying to solve this usingJSR223 POST processor but somehow stuck at vars.put function where i am unable to see the desired number being populated within the V paramter.
Using a boundary extractor where match no 1 should suffice the 1st selection and 0 should suffice the random selection.
def TotalInstanceAvailable = vars.get("sCount_matchNr").toInteger()
log.info("Total Instance Available = ${TotalInstanceAvailable}");
def boundary_analyzer =50;
def DesiredNumber,V
if (TotalInstanceAvailable < boundary_analyzer)
{
log.info("I am inside the loop")
DesiredNumber = 0;
log.info("DesiredNumber= ${DesiredNumber}");
vars.put("V", DesiredNumber)
log.info("v= ${V}");
}
else{
DesiredNumber=1;
log.info("DesiredNumber=${DesiredNumber}");
vars.put("V", "DesiredNumber")
log.info("v= ${V}");
}
def sCount = vars.get("sCount")
log.info("Text matching number is ${sCount_matchNr}")
You cannot store an integer in JMeter Variables using vars.put() function, you either need to cast it to String first, to wit change this line:
vars.put("V", DesiredNumber)
to this one
vars.put("V", DesiredNumber as String)
alternatively you can use vars.putObject() function which can store literally everything however you will be able to use the value only in JSR223 Elements by calling vars.getObject()
Whenever you face a problem with your JMeter script get used to look at jmeter.log file or toggle Log Viewer window - in absolute majority of cases you will find the root cause of your problem in the log file:
