How to Display Single Data With Laravel 5.6 - laravel-5.6

Hello everybody,
Here i want to ask about how to display single row from database in view, usually we use #foreach for looping data. but here i just want to display one row.
Note : Display single row but use this eloquent ItemName::latest()
help me please, thank you :)

In model ItemName.php file, you could create a function. This function would return only one row by your filter.
Ex:
public static latest($itemId) {
return self::where(['item_id' => $itemId])->orderBy('id', 'desc')->first();
}

ManytoMany relations in Laravel, retrieve data from related tables and display in blade

I have two tables related by many to many relation in Laravel Framework. I can display data from each table separately, but not through relation by taking one record from the 1st table and checking related records in the 2nd table. In tinker it accesses data fine.
Relations:
public function underperformances() {
return $this->belongsToMany(Underperformance::Class);
}
...
public function procedures() {
return $this->belongsToMany(Procedure::class);
}
My resource controller part:
...
use App\Underperformance;
use App\Procedure;
...
public function index()
{
$books = Underperformance::orderBy('id','desc')->paginate(9);
$procedures = Procedure::all();
return view('underpcon.underps', compact('books', 'procedures'));
}
Route:
Route::get('/underps', 'UnderpsController#index');
If I try to display data like this:
#foreach($procedures as $procedure)
<li>{{$procedure->underperformances}}</li>
#endforeach
I get such format to the browser:
[{"id":1,"title":"Spare part not taken before service","description":"tekstas","level":"1","costs":600 ...
This is correct data from related table, but I cannot select further the specific column from that table. For example this does not work:
#foreach($procedures as $procedure)
<li>{{$procedure->underperformances->id}}</li>
#endforeach
Nor this one:
#foreach ($procedures->underperformances as $underperformance)
<li>{{$underperformance->id}}</li>
#endforeach
How do I select records of the related table and display specific data from that table?
What would be a conventional way to do this?
#foreach($procedures as $procedure)
<li>{{$procedure->underperformances->id}}</li>
#endforeach
^ This right there $procedure->underperformances will return a collection, not a single item, so you need to treat it as array, you will not be able to access the id directly, you can either #foreach that, or use the pluck method in Laravel Collections.

Get specific values from controller function

I started learning Laravel and I am trying to achieve the following:
Get data from database and display specific field.
Here is my code in the controller:
public function show()
{
$students = DB::select('select * from students', [1]);
return $students;
}
Here is my route code:
Route::get('', "StudentController#show");
That all works for me and I get the following displayed:
[{"id":1,"firstname":"StudentFirstName","lastname":"StudentLastName"}]
How can I get only the "lastname" field displayed?
Thanks in advance!
DB::select('select * from students')
is a raw query that returns an array of stdClass objects, meaning you have to loop through the array and access properties:
$students[0]->lastname
You can also use the query builder to return a collection of objects:
$collection = DB::table('students')->get();
$student = $collection->first();
$student->lastname;
Lastly, using the query builder, you can use pluck or value to get just the last name. If you only have one user, you can use value to just get the first value of a field:
DB::table('students')->where('id', 1)->value('lastname');
I strongly advise you to read the Database section of the Laravel docs.
$students[0]['lastname'] will return the last name field, the [0] will get the first student in the array.
I would recommend creating a model for Students, which would make your controller something like this:
$student = Students::first(); // to get first student
$student->lastname; // get last names
If you only want the one column returned, you can use pluck()
public function show()
{
$last_names= DB::table('students')->pluck('lastname');
return $last_names;
}
This will return an array of all the students' lastname values.
If you want just one, you can access it with $last_names[0]
As a side note, your show() method usually takes a parameter to identify which student you want to show. This would most likely be the student's id.
There are several ways you can accomplish this task. Firstly, I advise you to use the model of your table (probably Students, in your case).
Thus, for example,to view this in the controller itself, you can do something like this using dd helper:
$student = Students::find(1);
dd($student->lastname);
or, using pluck method
$students = Students::all()->pluck('lastname');
foreach($students as $lastName) {
echo $lastName;
}
or, using selects
$students = DB::table('students')->select('lastname');
dd($students);
Anyway, what I want to say is that there are several ways of doing this, you just need to clarify if you want to debug the controller, display on the blade...
I hope this helps, regards!

How to query from database when I have different foreign keys?

I am trying to query data from my database and pass the results to a view called events, the problem I have is that one of my queries will always return the same result because in the where condition the $events_id is the same always. Is there a better way to do the querying? A better logic?
This code is from my controller called EventController:
public function index()
{
$firm_id = DB::table('firms')->where('user_id', auth()->id())->value('id');
$events_id = DB::table('events')->where('firm_id', $firm_id)->value('id');
$events = DB::table('events')->where('firm_id', $firm_id)->get()->toArray();
$actual_events = DB::table('actual_events')->where('event_id', $events_id)->get()->toArray();
return view('events',['events' => $events,'actual_events' => $actual_events]);
}
Since the $events_id is the same every time, the $actual_events will only contain the first result.
The image I have uploaded shows the problem, my table's first three columns are fine. Starting from the fourth they contain repeated values:
As I guess, you need something like this:
$event_ids = DB::table('events')->where('firm_id', $firm_id)->pluck('id');
$actual_events = DB::table('actual_events')->whereIn('event_id', $event_ids)->get()->toArray();
or write about your problem in details and I will try to help you.
you just said that your tables have relation together.
in this case it's better you using the eloquent for that,
first you should type the relations in model of each table like this:
class User extends Authenticatable{
public function cities()
{
return $this->hasmany('App\City'); //you should type your relation
}
}
for relations you can use this link: laravel relationships
after that when you compact the $user variable to your view, you can use this syntax for getting the city value relation to this user: $user->cities;.

Laravel Backpack : Storing Belongs To Many relationships using custom view

I have a flight class and this flight has a custom view field like so:
This represents a belongs to many relationship which stores website_id / flight_id and pricing as pivot data in a pivot table.
The custom view uses JS to send this data back to the controller in this format:
{"1":{"price_adult":"434","price_child":"545"},"2":{"price_adult":"323","price_child":"324"},"3":{"price_adult":"434","price_child":"43"}}
Trying to send this data with the request doesn't create the relations fields, and because I do not have a flight ID at the point of creating this within the controller I can not loop this JSON to make the relations manually.
Can anyone point out what the best course of action is or if there is support for this? I took a look at the docs but they are woefully short and patchy in terms of being much help.
EDIT:
I should have said I can probably make this work using a custom name attribute on the model for the relation, then add a set mutator to loop this data and update the prices relation but I don't want to go down this route if there is support for this I am missing out of the box in backpack.
EDIT2:
Someone asked about the relation:
$this->belongsToMany(Website::class, 'website_pricing')->withPivot('price_adult', 'price_child');
This is working fine its not a problem with the relation working its how can I get backpack to store the data as a relation when the flight has no ID yet, or how can I pass the data I posted above in such a way that the backpack crud controller can handle it?
You may need to create a flight first, if no flight id is being provided. Can you explain the database relational structure more?
Basically thought I should post what I did because no one could provide an answer to this.
So basically you have to copy the store / update functions from the parent, changing a few lines.
$this->crud->hasAccessOrFail('create');
// fallback to global request instance
if (is_null($request)) {
$request = \Request::instance();
}
// replace empty values with NULL, so that it will work with MySQL strict mode on
foreach ($request->input() as $key => $value) {
if (empty($value) && $value !== '0') {
$request->request->set($key, null);
}
}
// insert item in the db
$item = $this->crud->create($request->except(['save_action', '_token', '_method']));
$this->data['entry'] = $this->crud->entry = $item;
// show a success message
\Alert::success(trans('backpack::crud.insert_success'))->flash();
// save the redirect choice for next time
parent::setSaveAction();
return parent::performSaveAction($item->getKey());
Basically any line which references a function in the parent class using $this->method needs to be changed to parent::
This line is what I used to submit the relations JSON string passed to the controller as relations $item->prices()->sync(json_decode($request->input('prices'), true));
This is done after the line containing $item = $this->crud->create as the item id that just got stored will be available at that point.

how to display the current logged on users picture from a relationship laravel

I want to retrieve the user's photo and display it in a thumbnail form which i have stored in public/assets/uploads/thumbnail/. I tried auth()->user()->user_detail->file_name but I can't get it to work. How do you do it ?
you have to first define a relationship if they are stored in different table
like i did in model
public function imagedata() {
return $this->hasMany(Images::class, 'listID', 'id');
}
and after that when you get the user just call this method like this
$listingimg = Listings::findOrfail($id);
and for calling the relationship
foreach (listingimg as $singleIlisting) {
$singleIlisting->imagedata;
}
modify the code according your needs as if needed and by the way relatio is one to many
