Got an email from Google about new pricing. Below is the email.
Today we are announcing important changes, including our new name - Google Maps Platform, a simplified product structure, pay as you go pricing for all, and more. Please take a few minutes to review the announcement to familiarize yourself with the upcoming changes.

I am trying to figure out why I have so many API calls.
I am seeing in the console, that in the "Google Places API Web Service" I have alot of "Zagat content in the Places API" calls, and they all result in error.
I am trying to figure out how this is happening, but not finding any info online. I see that the "zagatselected" parameter was discarded May of 2017. I can not figure out what is causing these errors.
Everything has been working fine, I have my own API key, and have for a long while. The only reason I am really looking into this, is because Google will now start charging me monthly.
Is it possible you expose your Maps API key to the client, don't have any restrictions on it, and someone else is calling the API/raising those errors?
If you have a snippet of code like this....

...on a public web page, it would be easy for someone else to take the API key and use it themselves, unless you add a IP or referrer restriction to only allow it to be used client-side from your website. You can set up restrictions on who can use your API key following these instructions.
I suspect that the new Google Maps and Places API pricing scheme (which significantly lowers the number of free Places API calls) might cause some less ethical users to use keys they can scrape off websites.

Since this morning the Places API has returned NOT_FOUND results for every single place ID we've tried searching for.
We regularly query the API to check details & it has been running fine for over a year but today it's fell over and only returns NOT_FOUND, for over 300 different place ids.
Is there a current issue with the API?
I contacted Google Cloud support today about this because it still hasn't changed.
Yes they no longer support Service area businesses in the Places API. Here is their response:
Thank you for contacting Maps Platform Technical Support. My name is Ana and I'm here to assist you.
Places API mission is to enable developers to help users find relevant places to visit. Since Service Area Businesses are not places users can visit, they do not belong in the Places API. That is the reason why you cannot search it in Places API and it is an intended behavior.
Business owners can fix this via MyBusiness IF they have a brick-and-mortar shop
(a shop someone can visit on the streets).
I find this shocking that developers are unable to pull out information about any ACTIVE business on Google. I have responded with my own views but as expected Google will not change their stance.
Well that is very confusing to customers. You (rightly so) allow local listings to be setup as service area businesses. Why should only brick and mortar shops be allowed to utilise the Place API? That’s separating the market for businesses to advertise properly and surely is not legal.
Regardless of if you agree about service area businesses not being allowed to be shown on Maps – there is no reason that an ACTIVE business should not return details through a Development API which has no public facing impact. It is stifling the support agencies and businesses can provide to its customers.
We're denied access to the Google My Business API and then resort to pulling out data via the Places API and now we can no longer do that.
You should at the very least provide some kind of development data for ANY business that is available on Google, whether that be via the Places API or not – business owners should have a right to pull out data about their own business at any time.

With a simple java program, I send GET requests using YouTube Data API specifically videos.list, in order to get the public metadata of a video and store it as .json files.
For my universities research, we have to do this with all available YouTube video IDs provided in the Youtube-8M Database.
Therefore, I would like to know if there is a way to extend the available quota for requests (I already know about the billing option, but I am a student and my university is small).
I have read the YouTube API terms, which states that only one project per client may be used to send such requests with the necessary API Key.
If I understand it correctly, even my simple java code is such a client.
In some other Stack Overflow questions about extending ones daily quota with API Keys, some suggested creating multiple accounts or projects.
Is this a legal option or not? Or is there another possibility to get a higher quota for simple requests used in research like I do right now?
If you go to the Google Developer console where you enabled the YouTube API. the second tab is called quota
Click the pencil next to which ever quota it is that you are blowing out. A new window will pop up with a link called apply for higher quota.
Fill out the form to apply. To my knowledge you do not have to pay for additional YouTube quota but it can take time to get approved. Make sure you comply with everything on the form.
I have never heard of the one project per client term. Technically you can run your application using different API Keys it should work fine. Technically there is nothing wrong with creating additional projects on Google Developer console. You don't need to go as far as creating another Google account.
I would like to update "Opening hours" for all stores of a company in Google my business, through an automated API (a REST service for example).
My customer has hundreds of stores, and currently this is done manually.
I've read there is NO automated way to do this, a user needs to fill manually every opening hour in the google my business portal.
I can't believe that, and I'm wondering how big companies with a lot of stores take care of that problem, especially for "exceptional closings", etc.
I have already search for a long, and didn't found anything.
The only ability supplied by google is to upload a list of stores, through a file, and this file doesn't contain any information regarding opening hours (am I wrong ?).
I would like to be able to update store list AND opening hours regularly, through an API (My Business, or Places).
Does google propose a such API, or do you have any suggestion to handle this concern from a programmatical point of view ?

Is there any php API to gather information about a business(address, reviews) by its phone number from Yelp, Google, Insiderpages, Yahoo..
Please help, i have done research about these, but did't get the right info, though yelp is providing info by it's phone number but there they ask ywsid as mendatory (http://api.yelp.com/phone_search?phone=1234567890&ywsid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) but i want by phone number only.
Please note that all APIs have terms, most of them won't allow you to store their data in your own database and most of them have display requirements, before proceeding with any developing please read carefully their display requirements and terms.
Depending on your project you might not be allowed to use the data as you might need/want to on your project.
The other alternative would be scrapping sites, but most sites have rules against scraping too...
And again read a lot before putting too effort on something you are prohibited to in first place.

if you are using it to add it to your own database or storing the information anywhere it is against their policies display requirements & api terms.
if you are using any API you must read their terms before even thinking of doing anything.

Bottom line is, all these companies have put a lot of time and effort and money to build their databases, and they want you to redirect people back to their pages so they can make their money back/profit.
I am researching whether the following is possible and if so how I could go about achieving it.
We collect reviews for businesses from their customers and we’d like to post these reviews to Google places as part of the reviews they have on their.
I was wondering how I would go about getting our website to “push” this data to the Google places website, I’ve done lots of searching on the APIs but have found nothing that says it’s possible or not.
Currently the Google Places API does not have write capability. It only has read capability. Right now only ratings are available, but I suspect reviews might come someday too.
Although you can send check-in signals and fix Places through the API. Hopefully Google will add the ability to send reviews and receive them.

Since Google's local and maps initiatives are under the same people that would be the place to go.
I too looked into this as it would be of huge value to companies if possible.
My research led me to believe that it is not possible and could possibly violate Google's TOA with negative results for the company's Places page.
