Suppose in the jenkins workspace is a folder named "files", inside the folder is a file named test.xlsx. While building a job i want to move the content of test.xlsx into another file.
i tried:
mv test.xlsx test2.xlsx
but i didnt know where to put this command. Also not sure about the command/path
mv files/test.xlsx files/test.xlsx

I have a text file called "list.txt" that contain all the directories of the files that need to be copied to a new folder (dir_newfolder). I wrote the code like below:
for file in $(cat list.txt); do cp ${file} dir_newfolder; done
I got list of errors: cp:"file_name":No such file or directory. The file_names are the lines pulled out from the "list.txt". But when I copy each file_names from the error message and use cp to copy to the new folder. There is no error.
I am using mac os terminal.

Copy a file or folder locally
In the Terminal app on your Mac, use the cp command to make a copy of a file.
For example, to copy a folder named Expenses in your Documents folder to another volume named Data:
% cp -R ~/Documents/Expenses /Volumes/Data/Expenses
The -R flag causes cp to copy the folder and its contents. Note that the folder name does not end with a slash, which would change how cp copies the folder.

make sure you are providing correct path list.txt and the correct path for destiny folder, also i mentioned how to access file variable in double quotes , try this code it's working for me

Due to the way the Plesk Extension on my web server works, I am trying to write a shell command that fires after a deployment. This simply needs to copy the contents of one folder to another.
Currently, I am using this:
cp -r /deployed-site/public/ /httpdocs/
However, this only seems to work if the destination folder is empty. Every time a deployment occurs, I want the contents of the first folder copied and pasted into the second?
I would say it's better to clean the destination folder before copying files:
rm -rf /httpdocs
cp -r /deployed-site/public/ /httpdocs/
I've accidentally created folder with the same name as csproj file inside the folder the csproj file located. E.g. Now I have
Myproject.csproj
file and folder with name
Myproject.csproj
When I tried delete it, I delete the csproj file, not the folder. Is there any way to delete the folder only?
If using git bash you can type out the command rm -rf Myproject.csproj/. As it's a directory, you would need the r flag, and the f part doesn't ask for confirmation. By assing the / you're telling it you specifically want the directory.
I have some software that exports a file called My Library.bib to a folder called thesis. Assume that the name of the exported file is fixed. Every time I export such a file, I want to:
Delete any old files called MyLibrary.bib if they exist.
Remove the space from this new file so that it becomes the up-to-date MyLibrary.bib.
I've tried making an Automator 'folder action' as follows:
... However, while the shell script works perfectly if run manually, the folder action itself never appears to trigger.
Folder actions are nonetheless enabled (see below settings), and other folder actions do seem to work.
Summarily, I just want any files named My Library.bib entering the thesis folder (at any time, automatically) to become renamed to MyLibrary.bib, replacing any existing MyLibrary.bib files. Any ideas what's going wrong, or how else to achieve this? Thanks in advance.
When you use the "Run Shell Script" action, the current directory is the Home folder, not the "thesis" folder.
So, you must use the cd command to change the current directory

The "Get Folder Content" action is useless for what you want to do,
you can remove it.
The rm command is not necessary, you can use the mv -f to

I have a folder where some xml files keep updated, I want those files copied to another folder. From which a software collects the xml. I want to watch the folder and copy only new files as it comes to another folder automatically.
Is there any ready made solution or can it be done using Autoit, shell script or vb.net(last choice).
Main concerns:
Know when a file is added.
Copy them to the folder.
Make sure its notcopied second time.
If I schedule this code, it might also work

But it again don't have a way to not copy those which are already copied.
