I was working on a project which need to figure out whether a webpage is running in nwjs and then do some operation based on it.
Now the page is running on a remote server and I use window.location to jump to it from my webapp. When jump to a outside location, the webpage cannot get nwjs node environment even it is opened in nwjs.
I use node-remote to allow access from all urls in the origin webapp's package.json, it is like this:

Do I miss something?

The special pattern matches any URL that starts with a permitted scheme.
so since you want to match any website then is best to do this
"node-remote": ["<all_urls>"]
for chromium arguments that are valid for nw.js you can try this site

How to open chrome app with specific URL through chrome_proxy.exe?

I have a Chrome app that I created with "Create Application Shortcut".
What I need is to open that app with specific url on the same domain.
Example:
chrome_proxy.exe --profile-directory=Default --app-id=xxxxxxxx "https://www.google.com"
Is that possible or any command that achive the same result?
I'm guessing you installed the Chrome app so that the website launches in a standalone window. If this is the case, you can achieve something similar by using the --app command line switch instead.
Eg: chrome_proxy.exe --profile-directory=Default --app="https://www.google.com"
This doesn't strictly open the URL in the existing app, but it does open that specific URL in a standalone window.

Using this will work:

It will launch in the special standalone window AND navigate to the specified URL.
Replace xxxxxxxx with the app id (this can be found if you look at the properties of the shortcut it created), but after you create the app this part should already be filled in.
At that point all you need to add is this part:
--app-launch-url-for-shortcuts-menu-item="https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ"
Replacing the https:​//youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ part with the full URL of where you would like to navigate to.

How can my Windows application handle a subdomain or path URI?

My Windows desktop application handles a specific URI scheme, let's call it myscheme:, so URLs like myscheme://what/ever open my app. We set that up by creating a registry key and several values under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\myscheme. (It's an app that installs per-user without requiring elevation, thus the use of HKEY_CURRENT_USER.)
I would also like to be able to handle http: and https: URLs in a specified subdomain or path, such as http://mysubdomain.example.com/what/ever. Android provides a way to do this; can I do it in Windows?
I don't need a working example (I'm a fairly experienced Windows developer). All I'm looking for, if the capability exists, is a pointer to any relevant registry key or API name/docs on MSDN or elsewhere - I can take it from there. Thanks!

MVC allow an IIS default page in subfolder without breaking parent route

I need to bypass an MVC route for an application where the developer left - we're going to fully replace it, but for now if I can bypass this one route, it'll save us a ton of time.
The route is (e.g.) www.this.site/path/subpath
Since it's on IIS, I can take advantage of the default document and create the following folder / file structure: /path/subpath/index.htm
However if I do this, I'll "break" the parent www.this.site/path route (it throws a 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied) because I now have an actual file folder where the /path/ route was.
Is there a way to get around this / have IIS defer to MVC on /path/ but still handle the child html file?
thanks. Again, this is not intended as a long term solution but a work-around until we can replace the app entirely.
Perhaps a better workaround would be to use the IIS AAR module and it's reverse proxy functionality out the app.
To do so:
a) stand up the app at it's own site the proper path -- so it should work at something like http://localhost:1234/path/subpath/index.htm
b) install IIS AAR module and enable the reverse proxy functions using the WebPI and the IIS management tools
c) Ignore the /path/subpath route in your app
d) Add a virtual directory for /path/subpath to IIS
e) Configure that to reverse back to localhost:1234 or whatever port you configured the site
This will keep the legacy app completely separate while keeping the public facing URLs looking correct for the rest of the world.

Toggle javascript support programmatically without restarting firefox

The problem: toggle javascript support without restarting firefox (nor resorting to different driver) during cucumber test run.
If Firefox's prefutils were exposed to javascript in a web page, that would make it possible. But it is not the case.
So, is there a plugin that does it? Or is there another way to solve the problem? Or is there a good tutorial (that highlights the exposing bit) on how to make such a plugin?

On a second thought, how would javascript be of any help once it is disabled? Probably the whole idea is a bit screwed.
I assume that your tests run with normal web content privileges. In that case, they aren't going to be able to affect browser settings such as whether JavaScript is enabled (I assume that's what you mean by "toggle JavaScript support").
I'd implement a simple XPCOM component with a method to turn JS support on and off (by setting the appropriate pref). You can expose it as a JavaScript global property so that your tests can access it. See Expose an XPCOM component to javascript in a web page for more details. Package your component in an extension and make sure it is installed in the Firefox instance where your tests are running.
If you want to access the preferences API directly from your content script, you can add the following prefs to Firefox, either in about:config or by adding the following lines to prefs.js in your profile directory:

Replace www.example.com with the domain that you want to grant the privileges to. Also add this line to your JS code before you call the preferences API:

A local file (something loaded from file:///) is allowed to request additional privileges. Normally you would get a prompt asking whether you want to allow access - you can "auto-accept" the prompt by adding the following lines to prefs.js in the Firefox profile:

This will definitely work if your page is a local file. Judging by the error message however, you are currently running code from about:blank. It might be that changing capability.principal.codebase.p0.id into about:blank or into moz-safe-about:blank will allow that page to get extended privileges as well but I am not sure.
However, none of this will really help if JavaScript is already disabled and you need to enable it. This can only be solved by writing an extension and adding it to the test profile. JavaScript in Firefox extensions works regardless of this setting.
That means you need Javascript to toggle enabling or disabling Javascript.

Launching a registered mime helper application

I used to be able to launch a locally installed helper application by registering a given mime-type in the Windows registry. This enabled me to allow users to be able to click once on a link to the current install of our internal browser application. This worked fine in Internet Explorer 5 (most of the time) and Firefox but now does not work in Internet Explorer 7.
The filename passed to my shell/open/command is not the full physical path to the downloaded install package. The path parameter I am handed by IE is

This unfortunately does not resolve to the physical file when calling FileExists() or when attempting to create a TFileStream object.
The physical path is missing the Internet Explorer hidden caching sub-directory for Temporary Internet Files of "Content.IE5\ALBKHO3Q" whose absolute path would be expressed as

Yes, the sub-directories are randomly generated by IE and that should not be a concern so long as IE passes the full path to my helper application, which it unfortunately is not doing.
Installation of the mime helper application is not a concern. It is installed/updated by a global login script for all 10,000+ users worldwide. The mime helper is only invoked when the user clicks on an internal web page with a link to an installation of our Desktop browser application. That install is served back with a mime-type of "application/x-expeditors". The registration of the ".expd" / "application/x-expeditors" mime-type looks like this.

I had considered enumerating all of a user's IE cache entries but I would be concerned with how long it may take to examine them all or that I may end up finding an older cache entry before the current entry I am looking for. However, the bracketed filename suffix "[n]" may be the unique key.
I have tried wininet method GetUrlCacheEntryInfo but that requires the URL, not the virtual path handed over by IE.
My hope is that there is a Shell function that given a virtual path will hand back the physical path.
I believe the sub-directories created by IE are randomly generated, so you won't be able guarantee that it will be named the same every time, and the problem I see with the registry method is that it only works when the file is still in the cache...emptying the cache would purge the file requiring yet another installation.
Would it not be better to install this helper into application data?
I'm not sure about this but perhaps this may lead you in the right direction: try using URL cache functions from the wininet DLL: FindFirstUrlCacheEntry, FindNextUrlCacheEntry, FindCloseUrlCache for enumeration and when you locate an entry whose local file name matches the given path maybe you can use RetrieveUrlCacheEntryFile to retrieve the file.
I am using a similar system with the X-Appl browser to display WAML web applications and it works perfectly. Maybe you should have a look at how they managed to do it.
It looks like iexplore is passing the shell namespace "name" of the file rather than the filesystem name.
I dont think there is a documented way to be passed a shell item id on the command line - explorer does it to itself, but there are marshaling considerations as shell item ids are (pointers to) binary data structures that are only valid in a single process.
What I might try doing is:
1. Call SHGetDesktopFolder which will return the root IShellFolder object of the shell namespace.
2. Call the IShellFolder::ParseDisplayName to turn the name you are given back into a shell item id list.
3. Try the IShellFolder::GetDisplayNameOF with the SHGDN_FORPARSING flag - which, frankly, feels like w'eve just gone in a complete circle and are back where we started. Because I think its this API thats ultimately responsible for returning the "wrong" filesystem relative path.
Some follow-up to close out this question.
Turned out the real issue was how I was creating the file handle using TFileStream. I changed to open with fmOpenRead or fmShareDenyWrite which solved what turned out to be a file locking issue.
