Building REST services with Jersey - jersey

I am trying to upgrade my REST web services from 1.17.1 to 1.19, and it is a mess as am struggling to get the build right. With no changes to any source whatsoever, the services are not coming up with multiple error messages every time.
Here is the pom.xml of my project
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd">

You are trying to mix Spring Boot 1.5 with Spring 5. This won't work this way as they are not compatible. If you really need Spring Framework 5 you should use Spring Boot 2.x starter parent.
Depending on your needs you can take the pom.xml below and change 1.5.8.RELEASE to 2.0.0.M5, or leave it as is.
<parent>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
<version>1.5.8.RELEASE</version>
</parent>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-web</artifactId>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
<build>
<finalName>azzimov-search</finalName>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<source>1.8</source>
<target>1.8</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-maven-plugin</artifactId>
</plugin>
</plugins>
<resources>
<resource>
<directory>src/clients</directory>
</resource>
</resources>
</build>
Note that I removed versions from your dependencies so they are taken from parent starter.
Also, remove your web.xml and web-config.xml as they are not necessary for Spring Boot. Instead create a class in your root package (presumably com.project, or com.project.book):
#SpringBootApplication
public class BookApp {
public static void main(String[] args) {
SpringApplication.run(BookApp.class, args);
}
}
From the exception, its apparently a dependency issue. Can you try using a latest version of spring-boot instead of using 1.5.8.RELEASE?
Do not explicitly specify spring mvc or core versions, it will automatically take the compatible version for 1.5.8.RELEASE spring boot.

I'm not sure but I think WebSphere does not let you run a java main program in WAS JDK.
I was able to solve it.
Web Sphere had only IBM supported JRE installed. And My application was built and compiled using Oracle supported JRE.
So it was JRE mismatch issue.

spring-boot-legacy, 1.1.0.RELEASE is only guaranteed to work with Spring Boot, 1.4.2.RELEASE.
Not everything that works in the usual Spring Boot will work. Programatically defined servlet filters and servlets (e.g. using FilterRegistrationBean or ServletRegistrationBean) will not work, I think this is due to limitations in Servlet 2.5. Obviously Servlet 3.0 annotations will not work either (e.g. #WebServlet)
Tomcat 6 supports Servlet 2.5. So a Spring Boot legacy app should work fine using something like:
mvn tomcat6:run
<plugin>
<artifactId>tomcat6-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<groupId>org.apache.tomcat.maven</groupId>
<version>2.0</version>
</plugin>
Also it is important that you give the SpringBootContextLoaderListener some clue as to where to find your "Application" class (the class containing #SpringBootApplication), e.g.:
Your web.xml will contain something like:
<context-param>
<param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
<param-value>demo.Application</param-value>
</context-param>
Once you understand the limitations, it is amazing what does work!

I was trying to do the same acording to official spring documentation on page http://docs.spring.io/spring-ws/docs/2.4.0.RELEASE/reference/htmlsingle/ .
Can anyone give me a hint what could be wrong, because I haven't slept for a while trying to resolve this and similar tutorials for spring web services. Also could you give me an link to a working example tutorial with all important details, so i could rely on that? Thank you!
EDIT: additional info, I am using STS, Maven dependencies and Tomcat v8.0 server.

Java is looking for the org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet class, but it can't find it on the generated result. You probably added it as a dependency on Maven, and forgot to do a clean update to your container(generally Tomcat).
You seem to be missing one dependency on the final war. Check your build tool, or your war result by opening the .war and looking into WebContent/WEB-INF/lib for the missing jar.
If you're using Eclipse, go make a Maven Update, then rebuild(Ctrl+B), then do a clean on Tomcat and a republish on Tomcat.
If that still doesn't solve it, look for your Tomcat directory. Then go into wtpwebapps, and delete everything inside it. Then try to start it from STS again.

So I exported my project to a .war to see if my jar's are in there, but they aren't, causing that JasperException, but why is Maven not getting the jar's when building it? thanks.
[UPDATE] In case you want to see my jsp page using JSTL Tag:
<%# taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %>
For Tomcat you need JSTL implementation, not only API. So you need another dependency (for Tomcat 6 use JSTL 1.2):
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>jstl</artifactId>
<version>1.2</version>
</dependency>
This jar contains both API and implementation. See more details in wiki: https://stackoverflow.com/tags/jstl/info.
Also notice that your servlet-api and jsp-api dependencies should have <scope>provided<scope>.
