Cannot use spring's embedded message broker for test - spring

I have following component which is using for sending messages to broker (kafka) and also receiving by StreamListener of spring-cloud. Now I need write test where I send message to embedded broker and also I verify that message is received. Here is my component:
#Component
public class FooMessaging {
#Autowired
private Processor processor;
public void sendMsg(FooMsg msg) {
// some logic
processor.output().send(MessageBuilder.withPayload(msg).build());
// some logic
}
// and handler:
#StreamListener(value = Processor.INPUT)
public void handler(FooMsg msg) {
threadSafeMap.put(msg.getId(), msg.getBody());
}
}
config:
#EnableBinding(Processor.class)
public class BrokerConfig {
}
And here is my sample test where I tried just tests if my autowired is not null and next I want send message to output channel and receive it over embedded message broker of spring cloud test support. Can you tell me how to do that? I just tried run following code:
#RunWith(SpringRunner.class)
#SpringBootTest(classes = {BrokerConfig.class})
public class BokerTest {
#Autowired
private Processor processor;
#Test
public void sampleTest() {
assertNotNull(processor);
}
}
but I got this exception and I am not able to continue:

I also have this dependency in pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.cloud</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-cloud-stream-test-support</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
EDIT:
I find out when I have running docker image with zookeeper and kafka test works. So problem is spring don't use embedded but looking for remote.

If you want to test with Kafka embedded broker you may want to check how tests/configuration is done in KafkaBInder.
Simply adding spring-cloud-stream-test-support won't work.
However, you can also add the new (simplified) TestBinder.
Here is instructions on how to configure it in your Pom/Gradle https://github.com/spring-cloud/spring-cloud-stream/pull/1241
NOTE: Remove spring-cloud-stream-test-support from your POM/Gradle
. . and here is the code snippet for your test:
```
public class DemoRabbit174ApplicationTests {
#Test
public void test() {
ApplicationContext context = SpringApplication.run(new Class[] {MyConfiguration.class,
TestChannelBinderConfiguration.class}, new String[] {});
InputDestination source = context.getBean(InputDestination.class);
source.send(new GenericMessage<byte[]>("Hello".getBytes()));
}
#EnableAutoConfiguration
#EnableBinding(Sink.class)
public static class MyConfiguration {
#StreamListener("input")
private void sink(String string) {
System.out.println(string);
}
}
}
I have searched on net and tried many ways to solve this problem but these did not work.
Test class:
#ExtendWith(SpringExtension.class)
#SpringBatchTest
#ContextConfiguration(classes = {Config.class})
public class CdrReaderApplicationTests {
#Autowired
private JobLauncherTestUtils jobLauncherTestUtils;
#Test
public void testJob() throws Exception {
JobParameters jobParameters =
jobLauncherTestUtils.getUniqueJobParameters();
JobExecution jobExecution =
jobLauncherTestUtils.launchJob(jobParameters);
Assert.assertEquals(ExitStatus.COMPLETED,
jobExecution.getExitStatus());
}
}
Initialization of JobLauncherTestUtils with a job in config class:
#Bean
public JobLauncherTestUtils getJobLauncherTestUtils() {
return new JobLauncherTestUtils() {
#Override
#Autowired
public void setJob(#Qualifier("demoJob") Job job) {
super.setJob(job);
}
};
}
You are running the test as JUnit 4 test (see Stacktrace com.intellij.junit4.JUnit4IdeaTestRunner), however your test is annotated with #ExtendWith(SpringExtension.class), which is JUnit 5 API.
This leads to Spring testing extensions (like #SpringBatchTest) not getting picked up, because the Spring extension/runner is not registered. This results in the NPE (#Autowired functionality doesnt work).
So you either change this to #RunWith(SpringRunner.class) or you start the test as JUnit 5 test.
Example as JUnit 4 Test:
#RunWith(SpringRunner.class)
#SpringBatchTest
#ContextConfiguration(classes = {Config.class})
public class CdrReaderApplicationTests {
// ...
}
Spring-retry expression failing in Junit4
In my service I have retryable tag like below. This service is been injected in Spring-boot rest apis. But I want to test this service separately.
#Retryable(maxAttemptsExpression = "${max.read.attempts}", value = { IOException.class }, backoff = #backoff(delayExpression = "${retry.delay}"))
And my test case as follows.
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration
public class ConfigInvokeServiceTest {
#Autowired
#Qualifier("configService")
ConfigInvokeService configInvokeService;
#Test
public void invoke() throws ClientProtocolException, IOException {
String message = configInvokeService.invoke();
verify(configInvokeService, times(3)).invoke();
assertThat(message, is("Completed"));
}
#Configuration
#EnableRetry
public static class SpringConfig {
#Bean(name = "configService")
public ConfigInvokeService configInvokeService() throws Exception {
ConfigInvokeService remoteService = mock(ConfigInvokeService.class);
when(remoteService.invoke())
.thenThrow(new RuntimeException("Remote Exception 1"))
.thenThrow(new RuntimeException("Remote Exception 2"))
.thenReturn("Completed");
return remoteService;
}
}
}
If it's a Spring Boot app, use #SpringBootTest so that the boot properties will be loaded into your test case.
Otherwise, you will need to add a PropertyPlaceHolderConfigurer #Bean to your SpringConfig together with a pointer to the properties file.
How do you run Spring AOP with JUnit?
I am having difficulties getting my AOP running with JUnit.
I am using component scanning to pick up my beans:
Two things I've observed.
My aspect is not being picked up by the spring container.
My JUnit Test is not executing the aspect.
I've tried declaring a bean for the aspect within my XML configuration, and that did not work either.
Here is the bean i am trying to run AOP with :
#Component
public class SimpleManager {
public void sayHello() {
System.out.println("Hello World!");
}
}
Here is my Spring AOP logger:
#Aspect
public class AspectLogger {
Logger logger = LoggerFactory.getLogger(this.getClass());
#Pointcut("execution(* com.example.managers.*(..))")
public void secureStorageMethods() {
}
#Before("secureStorageMethods()")
public void before(JoinPoint joinPoint) {
System.out.println(joinPoint.getTarget().getClass().getName() + ": " + joinPoint.getSignature().getName());
System.out.println("Args: " + Arrays.toString(joinPoint.getArgs()));
}
}
Here is my XML Configuration:
<context:component-scan base-package="*"/>
<aop:aspectj-autoproxy />
And lastly here is my JUnit Test class:
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#ContextConfiguration(locations = {"/storage-context.xml"})
public class TestReleaseManager {
#Autowired
private SimpleManager simpleManager;
#Test
public void testSimpleManager() {
simpleManager.sayHello();
}
}
I am expecting to see the aspects get executed when I run the JUnit Test. I checked the bean container , and it contains the simple manager bean. So I tried annotating the AspectLogger with"#Component" . And it started causing an illegalStateException, and strangely enough: it's saying the following...
You should add #SpringBootTest annotation to your testclass.
#SpringBootTest
#ContextConfiguration(classes={PersistenceConfig.class})
#RunWith(SpringRunner.class)
Application Context not loaded while running JUnit in a Spring Boot Web Application
I am trying to build a simple web application with Spring Boot 1.3.5 using Java 1.8.
Though the application works alright. But I am having trouble getting my JUnits to run. Have tried finding solution for this, but most of the answers I saw was mainly for Integration testing which I do not want to do. I need simple JUnit test on my methods in my service layer with some mocking. But I don't seem to get it right. JUnits fail with below error. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.
Failed to load ApplicationContext
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to load ApplicationContext
My JUnit Class is as below where right now I am just checking if the objects are created or not
#RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
#SpringApplicationConfiguration(classes = Application.class)
public class ScheduledServiceImplTest{
#Autowired
private ScheduledService scheduledService;
#Mock
private MyDAO mockMyDAO;
#Before
public void setup() {
MockitoAnnotations.initMocks(this);
}
#Test
public void testMockCreation(){
assertNotNull(mockMyDAO);
assertNotNull(scheduledService);
}
}
My Application.java is as below:
import org.springframework.boot.SpringApplication;
import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.SpringBootApplication;
import org.springframework.boot.context.web.SpringBootServletInitializer;
import org.springframework.scheduling.annotation.EnableScheduling;
import org.springframework.web.WebApplicationInitializer;
#SpringBootApplication
#EnableScheduling
public class Application extends SpringBootServletInitializer implements WebApplicationInitializer {
public static void main(String[] args) {
SpringApplication.run(Application.class, args);
}
}
Full stacktrace below:
