xcode is not opening after downgrade from V9 to V8 - xcode

I'm trying to downgrade from xcode 9 to xcode 8, I have deleted the 9 version already then i realize that version 8 is not opening working.
all what happening that when i click on xcode icon it will show the very first new project screen for less than 1 second and disappear again.
macOS High Sierra
Version 10.13.6

if you have Xcode pops up a window with a list of most recent projects, but then switch off very fast. that mean you have every thing fine and all you need is to go to any txt file in your computer (file.txt) right click open with and select you Xcode you have installed it Will work fine

At start you need to completely uninstall XCode 9, including derived data, devtools, simulators, etc. Type 'uninstall xcode completely' in Google and you will find many advises of how to do that, including at StackOverflow, e.g.

After that you can install XCode 8 by placing XCode.app to Applications folder. Everything else it should do during first run.

Xcode 10 storyboard UI components are not visible and painfully slow?

My code was working fine (showing UI properly) when I had Xcode 9 and I removed it from the application folder (could not update as it had installed using another apple id) and reinstall the Xcode 10 from the Appstore.
Now Xcode storyboard not showing any added UI elements colors or anything and I removed Xcode 10 and installed Xcode 9 again but problem remains same.

I tried removing Xcode in this way:

Then I tried installing macOs Mojave and install XCode 10 again from the Appstore. Issue still remains. I tried cleaning derived data, xuserdata and everything.
Try cleaning your project using "Command + K"
and run your project again!

I encountered the same issue that you are facing in my case i had xCode 10.0 installed and everything was working fine. As soon as I installed version 10.1 I faced the same issue that you're facing but the good thing was i had xCode 10.0 installed at the same time so I switched back and everything was working fine.
From my point of view my system(Mac-mini mid 2011) was lacking hardware specification that was required for xCode 10.1 also had very low graphic processor in my mac mini. If you install the same version in a MacBook or any other system having higher specification you'll face the issue. I hope that helps.
I was stuck on this all day. One of my coworkers suggested removing occurrences of IB_DESIGNABLE & #IBDesignable. This fixed the issue for me. It still lags sometimes but doesn’t go invisible anymore.
If you have multiple xib files then just try to switch between or Try moving to launchScreen storyboard and then switch to main storyboard. I think this is just loading issue.
Reinstall Xcode. That worked for me.
Click on library button(Circular Button) which is left to hamburger sign(Top Bar Right Side). Elements will be popup on your screen then you can choose elements.

Unable to update to Xcode 8

I would like to update to Xcode 8, but when I start the App Store it just shows me an Open button, but my existing Version is 7.3.1
The requirements should be El Capitan 10.11.5 - I have 10.11.6 installed.
Why is there no Update button?
Check if you have multiple installations of Xcode on your system. The App Store often gets confused and loads one you're not considering, such as the version on your back up drive. It's possible it has updated a different installation than the one it launches as well.
Executing the following command in a terminal window should list all installations of Xcode the App Store may find.
mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'com.apple.dt.Xcode'"
When you have Xcode open (from hitting Open in the store), right click the Xcode icon on your dock, select Options, and Show in Finder. Does the installation it shows match up with the one you expected it to launch?
If you specifically open each Xcode installation the mdfind command found, are any of them Xcode 8?
You can control which installation of Xcode the App Store will update. Check each of the app folders, and look for a Contents/_MASReceipt folder. Ensure the installation you want to update has that (and a receipt file inside that), and delete the _MASReceipt folder for all of the other versions.
Now the App Store app should update the correct installation for you.
All I had to do was restart my mac. Then, went to the App Store and saw "Update" instead of "Open".

XCode 7. iOS simulators missing and not installable

Can't see any iOS 9.0 simulators. In previous Xcode 7 beta 3 all was OK.
Can't install iOS 8.3 simulator.
Also I can't add any simulator from 'Organizer'. By pressing "Create" nothing happened.
Each time when I'm trying to download iOS simulator I see next thing:
One possible issue is that there may be old leftover simulators installed, which are not compatible with the new XCode, and their presence causes the whole Simulator to fail. To get rid of them, delete the simulators in /Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes (for me there was an iOS 7 simulator there which was the issue). Relaunch XCode after this.
Then try to run the simulator from XCode->Open Developer Tool->Simulator. Assuming this succeeds, verify that you have the simulators under the iOS Simulator menu Hardware->Device->Manage Devices… – if not, you should be able to click the + in the bottom bar to add yourself some iOS 9 simulators. Relaunch XCode again and they should show up in the menu.
In my case was with Xcode 8.2, what it worked to me was changing Deployment Version:
After setting another different than 10.0 then appeared back all simulators again.
Have you tried going to Xcode > preferences > downloads and trying to re-download the simulators you want?
For me it was only showing one simulator,
and when I go to Xcode > Preferences I can see the simulator is already downloaded but it is not showing up in the list,
if you're facing something similar. This is how you should add required simulator,
From the Xcode menu, open Windows > Devices, shown in the image below
you should see this screen,

You can choose the simulator from the list, In my case it is iPhone 6s Plus.

I was also not able to see simulators.Reason is,I have not restarted system after upgrading Xcode.I restarted & simulator started displaying as routine.
There is a bug in the latest El Capitan beta which causes a process to crash when dlopen() fails to mmap() a dynamic library. Such mmap() failures can occur due to code signature verification failures.
These mmap() failures will occur if older iOS Simulator runtimes are present on disk (ie: installed from Xcode 6.x), and that is the reason why Xcode 7 beta release notes have indicated that earlier runtimes are not working in Xcode 7. The iOS 8.x Simulator runtimes were updated in newer downloads, but if the older versions are present on disk, they will cause the mmap() failure, which in the latest El Capitan beta, unfortunately results in the CoreSimulatorService repeatedly crashing which in turn results in no simulators being available.
If simulators are suddenly disappeared:
Just consider decreasing Deployment target to a minor version below current version in Project > Build Settings > Deployment Info > Deployment Target
P.S. Usually you see a place holder text showing the selected version (in gray) in the box denoted above. If for example the gray text says 9.3, then decrease it to 9.2.

This can also be fixed by booting into recovery mode (CMD - R) and reinstalling El Capitan.
Go to Windows. Select Devices. Select '+' from left bottom and add all simulators one by one.
I had changed the name of my Project from Finder. I clicked on the old project name (between the Play Button and and the selector for the desired Simulator or Device), selected edit schemes, selected the Targets Tab, and realised that the old scheme was missing so I just added my new Project name by clicking on the plus button and the simulator list reappeared.

Xcode 5 simulator cannot be installed, does not show up in xcode

In Xcode 5, i have a problem with installing simulators. They don`t show up in the downloads section of preferences for Xcode. And the 6.1 simulator cannot be run when it says its installed. Only shows up with a question mark besides it. When i click check and install, it says nothing new found. How to fix this?
When i try to run an app, no simulators show as installed:
It shows you installed all the simulators.
Just Quit the Xcode and open again. It wil show you a window same as below.
Also please cross check that, the downlaoded SDK's are available under Application->Xcode.app->right-click->Show Package Contents
->Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs
Also cross check the Base SDK and Target devices.

Can you install the Xcode 5 Developer Preview in parallel with Xcode 4.6.2?

Apple announced the Xcode 5 Developer Preview today and I want to try it.
But before I download this, I want to know that what happen with my current version of Xcode (version 4.6.2)?
Will the Xcode 5 Developer Preview install as a different application or it will remove the old version? Will some common tools collide, like the command line tools?
The Xcode 5 developer preview comes as a normal app DMG (not with the usual packager/installer) and has a different name.
So essentially, you download it, open a DMG, then pull to the Applications folder and thence have two Xcodes there (the old and the new one called Xcode5-DP). It even comes with a slightly different icon (red badge across a corner) and the intro screen is different too, so there is very little chance of confusing them.
I already did that today (and a colleague also).
Now that xcode 5 has reached the first official release and is no longer in beta, you have to do ONE of the following if you wish to keep BOTH versions.
Run the dmg of the new version you download from developer.apple.com. Drag the app to applications, and when asked to overwrite click KEEP BOTH. This will rename the existing app to xcode 2 I believe.
Select your existing xcode 4 in applications. Rename it to xcode4 or whatever. Now you can drag in the new version without overwriting the existing one.
Drag the new xcode to someplace other than applications. Rename it and then drag it into applications.
I personally favour option 2, since going forward we'll be using xcode 5 and it's helpful if it retains the default name from the get go for easy updating.
BTW, if you do have more than one xcode installed expect the mac app store to report that you need to do an update. Probably best to install it by downloading it from the developer portal if this sort of thing bugs you.
Xcode 5 preview works fine with Xcode 4.6.2 or any other Xcode, It has different icon and it runs from its .dmg file (no install).
Pay attention you cannot submit an app with Xcode 5, So keep the old Xcode till Apple would release the stable version of Xcode 5.
Short answer: Dont replace XCode 4!
If you plan to deploy some app to appstore, you can't do it using Xcode 5 at this moment.
The best way is download the Xcode 5 version, unpack it and run the app on different folder (not application folder). You will stay with Xcode 4, and can run Xcode 5 separated (You don't need to 'install' xcode 5).
