I am looking for Server Explorer in my visual studio 2017 in order to connect a database but I cannot find it. I saw some solution here on this site and I tried to perform them but I still can not find it. Can someone help me please.
Open up Visual Studio Command Prompt
Start -> Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 -> Visual Studio Tools -> Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt
Type in the command prompt:
devenv /resetsettings
or
devenv /setup

I'm trying to open up Visual Studio in safe mode by typing in devenv /SafeMode in run however it only opens up the 2010 edition. How do I switch it so it opens the 2012 or 15 edition?
Use the full path to the corresponding Visual Studio executable. For VS 2012:
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
11.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /SafeMode
Today I selected "Work Items" as I have a million times before but this time I was met with this error along the top of my "Team Explorer" tab:
"Page [some long GUID] not found."
This also happened for "Pending changes".
To fix the issue simply run the below command in an elevated command prompt as detailed here.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup
My understanding is this command forces the recreation (what Microsoft refers to as "merging") of current VS settings into what is apparently a corrupt settings cache. On the surface, this is similar to deleting the directory path C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\version and allowing visual studio to recreate it at launch. However, I prefer to not to delete this outright and instead rely on re-merge approach.
Recently I found this sometimes occurs when I launch several solutions at once (i.e. I have 1 or more Visual Studio instances loading a solution at the same time). I also have ReSharper, SQL Prompt, VSCommands and TFS Power Tools installed which I'm sure contribute to some degree.
UPDATE:
This fix should work for all versions of Visual Studio, however you will need to execute the command in the directory appropriate to your version. For example with Visual Studio 2015 the path would be:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup
Version mappings for Visual Studio (original version mapping answer here):
Visual Studio 2005 = 8
Visual Studio 2008 = 9.0
Visual Studio 2010 = 10.0
Visual Studio 2012 = 11.0
Visual Studio 2013 = 12.0
Visual Studio 2015 = 14.0
Visual Studio 2017 = Path has changed to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\Common7\IDE"
Deleting all files in ComponentModelCache folder worked for me
For Visual Studio 2013:
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\ComponentModelCache"
For Visual Studio 2015:
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache"
or
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache
If you get this issue in VS2015 and running "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\devenv" /setup doesn't fix you issue you can try the following:
Close all instances of VS
Delete all files in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache
run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\devenv" /setup
This happend also with my installation of VS '13 when I installed VS '15.
Removing the files at
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\ComponentModelCache"
did the job for me.
I encounter the same problem with you, and resolved by run the VS as administrator
Here are the steps I followed. Please make sure you follow them in correct sequence. These steps are for VS 2015. Use 12.0 (instead of 14.0) for VS 2013 and 10.0 for VS 2010
Close all instances of VS
Delete all files in C:\Users{UserName}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache
Delete the folder C:\Users{UserName}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\devenv" /setup in a command prompt as administrator
I've read that it is possible to run xsd commands right in visual studio (2010). I have VS 2012 on my machine and when I run
xsd XMLFile.xml
I get
Command "xsd" is not valid.
So, is the "xsd" command not supposted in VS 2012 and is there any other way to execute "xsd" in VS 2012?
xsd.exe is available from the 'Developer Command Prompt for VS2012, not the command window that is part of the VS2012 IDE.
The 'Developer Command Prompt for VS2012' itself can be started from Start Menu -> All Programs -> Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 -> Visual Studio Tools -> Visual Studio Command Prompt For VS2012
Under Visual Studio 2012, there is a feature called Past Special
which generate the class from an xml file.
See here: Paste XML or JSON as classes in Visual Studio.
Note that this feature requires at least .NET 4.5.
How to bring up the Visual Studio Command Prompt:
They say a picture is worth a thousand words (Works for Visual Studio 2017 - Community Edition / Windows 10):
Bring up the Visual Studio Command prompt.
Now run the XSD command against the relevant XML file.
It's as easy as that!
When I click on the home-icon of Team Explorer, I get the following error:
Page '312e8a59-2712-48a1-863e-0ef4e67961fc' not found instead of all the options.
I have this error since I reinstalled the Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate trial and installed the Visual Studio 2012 Premium edition. Repair and reinstall didn't work out.
To fix this, run this from the Visual Studio command prompt as administrator:
devenv /setup
It will not mess up your environment, and you can just continue to use Visual Studio afterwards was my experience.
I had the same error in Visual Studio 2013 and tried:
Control Panel → Programs .... → Visual Studio → Repair
It did not work
devenv /setup
It did not work
devenv /clearcache
devenv /updateconfiguration
It did not work
And then THE solution:
*Close all Visual Studio instances
Delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\ComponentModelCache folder
Start Visual Studio
It is explained in more detail in this blog post: When the EditorPackage does not load correctly
I had this error on Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate - Windows 8:
And I solved this problem running this command:
X64: devenv.exe /resetskippkgs
x86: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe /resetskippkgs
I faced similar issue. Running devenv /setup did not help me.
Just wanted to share some additional info:
At first, devenv /setup did not help me as well. Then I realized that I was using the wrong Visual Studio command prompt version.
Make sure that you run devenv /setup for the appropriate Visual Studio version.
For example: for Visual Studio 2013, use the "Developer Command Prompt" under the Visual studio 2013 "Visual Studio Tools" folder.
*And like it stated in the selected answer, run as administrator.
I ran the suggested command: devenv /setup. It didn´t work for me. (Visual Studio 2015)
Then after that I tried something different:
-> Run Visual studio as administrator, after ran the command.
Then the problem was solved.
Running Visual Studio as administrator resolves this for me.
After I reinstalled my Visual Studio 2012 Trial, I've never deleted the documents directory. In this directory there were some backup files. This maybe have caused the problem.
After deleting this directory and installing Visual Studio 2012 Premium again the problem was solved.
I faced a similar issue. Running devenv /setup did not help me.
I found Fixing 312e8a59-2712-48a1-863e-0ef4e67961fc-not-found-vs-2012. This link suggests that I might have recently installed some Visual Studio extensions, which might have corrupted the Visual Studio maintained cache. I uninstalled a couple of the latest Visual Studio extensions, and it solved the issue after Visual Studio's restart. Visual Studio is able to connect with TFS :-).
One can find Visual Studio extensions at menu Tools → *"Extensions and Updates...". Go to the "All" section under Installed section. It will show all Visual Studio extensions.
I had a similar error, and then I tried running "devenv /setup" and no good result. That's was because you don't not trying with specific version Visual Studio command prompt. I then opened the command prompt for the specific version "Visual Studio 2013", and the problem was solved.
I had the same exact issue in Visual Studio 2013. I renamed ComponentModelCache to ComponentModelCache2, and it fixed it.
C:\Users\{..}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\ComponentModelCache
I'm trying to create a plugin (tool window) for Visual Studio 2010, and am following the directives inn MSDN - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb165051(v=vs.110)
In step #3:
3. In the Templates pane click Visual Studio Package.
However, in my visual studio I don't see that template (i only see Visual Studio Add In)
Why is it missing? Where can I find it?
I believe your VS 2010 SDK is not installed (or it is broken and requires re-installing).
As soon as the SDK is installed, the templates will appear in [ProgramFiles]\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\ and will be ready to use.
See this page for more details.
Have you tried running Visual Studio 2010 with the following switches?
- devenv /resetskippkgs
- devenv /setup
- devenv /resetttings
- devenv /installvstemplates
