Rspec, fake class AR attribute - ruby

Hello i am trying to test method that in one place calls activerecord attribute, but however in test i created fake class to test it out and do not have a table for that test class, so how i could give that class a fake table or smthng?
tried to define load schema, but that didn't work:

here i have TestClassStatus where statuses from yml file are loaded by frozen record, and TestClass is a class where i use the method i want to test has_status. And that method is trying to find test_class_status_id in TestClass. But unfortunately i dont have a table for that fake TestClass. So any advice how to make a fake table for that TestClass to run this spec? :)

Here is a part where it breakes

It brakes in line where it tries to find that attribute. klass in my case will be TestClassStatus and name will be test_class_status so in that line it tries to recieve test_class_status attribute in TestClass, but unfortunately as you can see my TestClass does not have a table. So i need somehow to fake the table, because this method hits activerecord :)
There is a way to test it using real class, but I don't want to be attached to a real class in testing in case someday i would need to remove that class.

Undefined method for class - Sinatra

It seems I don't quite understand initializing or using a class within another class.
I have a Sinatra app and have created a class to handle fetching data from an api

When check_frame_number is called I get a undefined method error. What I would like to know is what basic thing am I not doing/understanding, I thought by requiring the file which has the class it would be available to use.
No, you can not require a method defined in class - methods defined in class only available to class, class instances and within the inheritance.
Mixing method only possible with including modules.
To solve you issue you could either do

How do I test (TDD) a singleton class?

I am starting with DDD and TDD in a Ruby application using Minitest.
I created a repository class (no database access, but it generates the entities for me). It is a singleton.
I would like to test the generation of the entities. The problem is that because it is a singleton, the order of executions of the tests affect the results.
Is there any way to force the disposal of the singleton element so it is "fresh"?

The assertion assert_equal(0, index_participant1.to_i) succeeds when test_employee_name_increment is executed first and fails if it is executed last.
I would like to be able to test the repository (because it will evolve into something bigger). How can I do that?

Ordering your tests won't matter. To properly test a singleton class you need to treat it like an instance object. To do that, wrap your singleton in an anonymous Class during setup. Every time setup is called you'll get an untouched copy of the ParticipantRepository:

Call i_suck_and_my_tests_are_order_dependent!() at the top of your
tests when you absolutely positively need to have ordered tests. In
doing so, you’re admitting that you suck and your tests are weak.

Issue loading classes order EDIT: works, although some odd behavior along the way

I'm working on a project to recreate some of the functionality of ActiveRecord. Here's the portion that isn't working

Just to make sure that it was an issue with the order of loading the classes in the file I began the file with the empty Person class, which, as predicted gave me
undefined method `table_name' for Person:Class (NoMethodError)
Since this is a learning project I don't want to change the test to make my code work (open all the classes, set all the tables/attributes then reopen them them for belongs_to. But, I'm stuck on how else to proceed.)

And the relevant part of AssignmentClass uses send on attr_accessor to give functionality to set_attrs and makes sure that before you initialize a new instance of a class all the names match what was set using set_attrs.
This highlights an important difference between dynamic, interpreted Ruby (et al) and static, compiled languages like Java/C#/C++. In Java, the compiler runs over all your source files, finds all the class/method definitions, and matches them up with usages. Ruby doesn't work like this -- a class "comes into existence" after executing its class block. Before that, the Ruby interpreter doesn't know anything about it.
In your test file, you define Pet first. Within the definition of Pet, you have belongs_to :person. belongs_to does :person.constantize, attempting to get the class object for Person. But Person doesn't exist yet! Its definition comes later in the test file.
There are a couple ways I can think that you could try to resolve this:
One would be to do what Rails does: define each class in its own file, and make the file names conform to some convention. Override constant_missing, and make it automatically load the file which defines the missing class. This will make load order problems resolve themselves automatically.
Another solution would be to make belongs_to lazy. Rather than looking up the Person class object immediately, it could just record the fact that there is an association between Pet and Person. When someone tries to call pet.person, use a missing_method hook to actually define the method. (Presumably, by that time all the class definitions will have been executed.)
Another way would be do something like:

This code is not tested, it's just to give you an idea! Though it's a pretty mind-bending idea, perhaps. Basically, you define a method which redefines itself the first time it is called. Just like using method_missing, this allows you to delay the class lookup until the first time the method is actually used.
If I can say one more thing: though you say you don't want to "overload" method_missing, I don't think that's as much of a problem as you think. It's just a matter of extracting code into helper methods to keep the definition of method_missing manageable. Maybe something like:

ruby, no method error

I am receiving the following error when running my below ruby script:

def extract_account_id will define an instance method.
In the way you call it, you need a class method instead.
Define it like this:
def self.extract_account_id(line)
or, as you already have an AccountLog instance, use it to call extract_account_id:
account_log.account_id = account_log.extract_account_id(line)
Please note that with second way you do not need to alter method definition, just call extract_account_id via account_log instance.
And i guess you would want to put s3log = File... outside class definition.
Or use a constant instead: S3log = ...
Then you'll can access it as AccountLog::S3log
Is there any reason you don't think it should be a class method? You are using it in the context of a class method and that's why it it's saying no such method for class AccountLog.
If you name your method as self.extract_account_id(line) I'm sure it will work.

While you could take the class method approach, there seems to be a little more going on.
You should put the extraction logic in a method in itself rather than let it hangout in your class. Then outside of the class, have an instance of AccountLog where you can call on the methods for log and account id extraction. At that point you can do something with those values.
Class method or not is a detail we can explore after the class is a bit more clean I think.

How to call a page-object from a class.rb at Support folder

I am using the page-object gem. Suppose i have a page-object on features/bussines/pages/booking_page.rb for a page like:

...and i use a "tools" class located at features/support/tools.rb with something like:

...but this approach fails because calling to the object from the class is not allowed:
undefined method `on' for #<Booking:0x108f5b0c8> (NoMethodError)
Pretty sure i'm missing some concept on the way to use the page-object from a class but don't realize whats the problem. Can you please give me an idea about what could be wrong here, please?

I didn't pass the browser object to the class <== REQUIRED

To use the on (or on_page) method requires two things:
The method to be available, which is done by including the PageObject::PageFactory module.
Having a #browser variable (within the scope of the class) that is the browser.
So you could make your MyTools class work by doing:
class MyTools
#Include this module so that the class has the 'on' method

#Assign a browser object to #browser, which the 'on' method assumes to exist
#browser = browser

Pages should be in the features/support/pages folder. You can put other files that pages need there too.
If you want to use on method in a class, you have to add this to the class:
include PageObject
The code from MyTools class looks to me like it should be in Cucumber step file, not in a class.
Your class should use the extend keyword to access special class methods like span:

end
