I am trying to install some dependencies using maven in a spring boot project.
I am looking for a jar
org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-resources-plugin:jar:3.1.0
But I wanna know if the jar file should have this name maven-resources-plugin, or if the file name is not important for maven. I mean if maven will automatically know which jar file should use.
I will appreciate any help or feedback.
That is a plugin, not a dependency as such (meaning that Maven needs it for building your project, your code doesn't need it to compile or run).
You should only have to specify the plugins groupId, artifactId and version plus any configuration in your pom.xml, and Maven knows exactly what jar to get and how to use it.

I a maven rookie and am wondering how to get a binary jar file if it is not already in the repo. Specifically i'm in need of: jackson-dataformats-text-2.13.0.jar. Do I need to build it myself? I'm used to creating a project and marking a library as a dependency and seeing the jar downloaded into my .m2 cache but all i see in my cache is:

Can someone advise how I am to get a built version of the jar from maven central?
We are still maintaining our ant build and I need the jar file for this. (i know i know, ancient stuff but team is not ready to port just yet).
parent pom don't contain jar file

The maven dependency is not a jar, is a parent. So the extension is: .pom which is just a plain pom.xml
Parent dependencies don't contain compiled class like .jar.
In your specific case, there are another dependencies who contains jars:

Check what classes do you need on your ant project and search if exist a jar (with the classes you need) on https://mvnrepository.com
Another option is to get all the dependencies from pom :
https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/com/fasterxml/jackson/dataformat/jackson-dataformats-text/2.9.0/jackson-dataformats-text-2.9.0.pom and download them into your ant project. In theory is the same of add the parent pom in a maven project
I am buliding small Spring Boot app - pacakged as jar file (I'm using maven plugins).
I know that there are solutions which allow me to build jar file with all desired dependecies (e.g. maven assembly plugin).
The question is what if I don't pack maven required depedencies using those solutions? Am I correct that I will always get "NoClassDefFoundError" ? So should I always pack my project with all depedencies into jar file or there is another solution to "makes thigns work"?
I'm trying to override a dependency version through a maven profile. I did a test installing the war and it works. The problem is when I run the war using maven tomcat plugin. I wanted to check which version of the jar is used, but I have no idea where it reads the jars from. I cannot find anything useful on available documentation..

I've noticed something really cool about the m2eclipse plugin. When I try to view source on one of the class files included by Maven, at first it's unable to show it to me, but then in the background, it downloads a src JAR and a docs JAR. For my own projects how do I make and deploy these JARs alongside my binary JAR in my Maven repository?
You can do this by attaching the source and javadocs as part of your project build. This cookbook has the maven configuration needed for it.

Developing on the Mac with IntelliJ 9.0.2 Community Edition.
I have a program which depends on two library jars. I have figured out how to get IntelliJ to make me a jar of my source (with the Artifact tab), and even to include the two jars in it.
However, if I get a listing of the jar file it produces, it looks like this:
com/acme/MyClass1.class
com/acme/MyClass2.class
...
mylib1.jar
myLib2.jar
And, no surprises, if I double-click the jar file, it gets a NoClassDefFoundError the first time it tries to access a class in one or other library jar.
It seems I need to tell IntelliJ to "inline" the library jars -- but this menu option is always greyed out!
Does anyone have any idea how to get jars inlined in a jar artifact?
IDEA doesn't support it yet, you can use Ant integration to package your jar (either by unpacking all the jars into the temp folder and then packaging the project output plus this temp folder into the single jar or by using some Ant task like jarjar).
If you want this feature to appear in the future IDEA versions, please vote for the request.
Having the dependency JARs included in your JAR should allow yoru code to run successfully. You probably don't have the JARs on your classpath.
I will use Maven Assembly plugin. Its simple and will give you a neat little jar file..
