In the controller update method, I can update this field with no problem:
public function updateLecture($id){
$subject = Subject::findOrFail($id);
$subject->name = request('name');
$subject->save();
}
But when I do try to update the description:
$subjet->description = request('description');
It gives me this error :
'Creating default object from empty value'
and I know for certain that the request('description') is not empty.
You did spelling mistake,
$subject->description = request('description'); // make subjet to subject

I have a questions database table with the field featured_image and my questions model has an attachOne file named featured_image_file. The featured_image_file column doesn't get saved to the database, so for my API, I am updating the field featured_image after save.
I saw some answers to this question on other posts that didn't work. Eventually, I figured it out and my resulting code is this:
public function save(?array $options = [], $sessionKey = null)
{
$user = BackendAuth::getUser();
$this->user_id = $user->id;
// throw new ApplicationException(json_encode($this));
parent::save($options);
$url = $this->featured_image_file->getPath();
$this->featured_image = $url;
parent::save($options);
}
Is this the proper method to modify when inserting into the database? Is it okay to call parent::save($options) twice?
Trying to save data while open page but stuck at error :
"Method Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Collection::save does not exist."
I have 2 database :
Buffalodata
Buffalomilkrecord
From 2nd table i need to get the avg of totalmilk and update the same to main database (1). This help me to show updated avgmilk data on dashboard front page.
Route:
Route:: get('buffalo-details', 'App\Http\Controllers\BuffalodataController#buffalodetails');
BuffalodataController Controller :
public function buffalodetails()
{
$buffalidforavgmilk = Buffalodata::groupBy('buffaloID')->get('buffaloID')->pluck('buffaloID')->toArray();
foreach ($buffalidforavgmilk as $id )
{
$milkperid = Buffalomilkrecord::where('buffaloID', $id)->sum('totalmilk');
$avgbuffalocount = Buffalomilkrecord::where('buffaloID',$id)->count();
$getavg = $milkperid / $avgbuffalocount;
$data = Buffalodata::find($buffalidforavgmilk);
$data->avgmilk = ($getavg);
$data->save ();
// dump([$milkperid,$avgbuffalocount,$getavg,$data,$id]);
}
return view ('pages.Buffalo.BuffaloDetails',[---------]);
}
Thanks again in Advance
When you pass an Array to ::find(), it returns a Collection, which doesn't have a save() method. This is your code:
// This is an Array of `buffaloID` values
$buffalidforavgmilk = Buffalodata::groupBy('buffaloID')->get('buffaloID')->pluck('buffaloID')->toArray();
...
// `$data` is now a `Collection` of `Buffalodata` instances
$data = Buffalodata::find($buffalidforavgmilk);
// This now fails, as `Collection` doesn't have a `save()` method
$data->save();
You can rewrite your code as follows:
Buffalodata::whereIn('buffaloID', $buffalidforavgmilk)->update(['avgmilk' => $getavg]);
This will update all records in a single call. If you want to iterate, that's an option too:
$data = Buffalodata::find($buffalidforavgmilk);
foreach ($data as $record) {
$record->avgmilk = $getavg;
$record->save();
}
Or, since you have $id already:
$record = Buffalodata::find($id);
$record->avgmilk = $getavg;
$record->save();
I have a variable which holds the model name like so
$fooTableName = 'foo_defs';
$fooModel = 'FooDefs';
Now I would like to insert in the DB using that model like so
$fooModel::insert([..foo..array...]);
Throws an error
"message": "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '$fooModel' (T_VARIABLE), expecting identifier (T_STRING)",
Is it possible to do something like that? or will I be forced to use
DB::table('fooTableName')->insert([...foo...array...]);
If I do it in the latter way, the timestamps in the table are wrong. The created_at column is null and the updated_at has the value
EDIT 1
$model = CustomHelper::getNameSpace($this->tableNames[$i]);
// $model => /var/www/html/erp/app/Models/sales/InvoiceDefs
$model::insert($this->tableCollections[$this->tableNames[$i]]);
Most of them said that, it was namespace issue, so I have corrected it, but still it is throw error like
"message": "Class '/var/www/html/erp/app/Models/sales/InvoiceDefs' not
found",
What you are doing wrong is using model name as string, you need to refactor your code as like below :
$fooModel = 'App\Models\FooDefs';
I have a same situation before and i have created the function to do this
function convertVariableToModelName($modelName='',$nameSpace='')
{
//if the given name space iin array the implode to string with \\
if (is_array($nameSpace))
{
$nameSpace = implode('\\', $nameSpace);
}
//by default laravel ships with name space App so while is $nameSpace is not passed considering the
// model namespace as App
if (empty($nameSpace) || is_null($nameSpace) || $nameSpace === "")
{
$modelNameWithNameSpace = "App".'\\'.$modelName;
}
//if you are using custom name space such as App\Models\Base\Country.php
//$namespce must be ['App','Models','Base']
if (is_array($nameSpace))
{
$modelNameWithNameSpace = $nameSpace.'\\'.$modelName;
}
//if you are passing Such as App in name space
elseif (!is_array($nameSpace) && !empty($nameSpace) && !is_null($nameSpace) && $nameSpace !== "")
{
$modelNameWithNameSpace = $nameSpace.'\\'.$modelName;
}
//if the class exist with current namespace convert to container instance.
if (class_exists($modelNameWithNameSpace))
{
// $currentModelWithNameSpace = Container::getInstance()->make($modelNameWithNameSpace);
// use Illuminate\Container\Container;
$currentModelWithNameSpace = app($modelNameWithNameSpace);
}
//else throw the class not found exception
else
{
throw new \Exception("Unable to find Model : $modelName With NameSpace $nameSpace", E_USER_ERROR);
}
return $currentModelWithNameSpace;
}
How To user it:
Arguments
First Argument => Name of the Model
Second Argument => Namespcce of the Model
For Example we have the model name as Post
$postModel = convertVariableToModelName('Post');
dd($postModel::all());
Will returns all the values in the posts table
But in Some Situation You Model Will in the
Custom Namespace such as App\Models\Admin\User
So this function is created to overcome that
$userModel = convertVariableToModelName('User',['App','Models','Admin']);
dd($userModel::all());
You are feel free to customize the function
Hope it helps
Try the below one,
$fooModel = new FooDefs();
and then you can do the following also,
$fooModel->column1 = $value1;
$fooModel->column2 = $value2;
$fooModel->column2 = $value2;
$fooModel->save();
or
$fooModel->save([
'column1' => $value1,
'column2' => $value2,
'column3' => $value3,
])
Edited answer
$path = 'my\project\path\to\Models';
$fooModel = app($path.'\FooDefs');
$fooModel::save([
'column1' => $value1,
'column2' => $value2,
'column3' => $value3,
])
dd($fooModel ::all());
Try my edited answer.
When you have the name of class stored as string you can call method on that class by using the php method call_user_func_array like this
$class_name = "FooDefs";
call_user_func_array(array($class_name, "insert"), $data);
$data is an Array of data which will be past to the called function as arguments.
Just for simple advice It's will be Good if you save in the $class_name variable the FQN Fully Qualified Name of the class which is the __NAMESPACE__ follow by the name of the class. For sample purpose FQN look like Illuminate\Support\Facades\DB which you can get when you save you use User::class I presume you have some User model. That will return the Fully Qualified Name of the User model will will be App\User in case of Laravel.
$requests = $post['request'] // posting the data from view page
$models = "app\models".'\\'.$requests //geting the model
$model = $models::findOne($referenceId) //fetching value from database
Consider the code
return User::find($user_id)->update($data_array)?true:false;
if $data_array have some columns that are not present in User related table.
then also above statement return true.
e.g: $data_array=['not_in_the_table'=>'value'];
return User::find($user_id)->update($data_array)?true:false;
returns true. What is the condition when update returns 0 i.e. false?
If you use where('id','=',$user_id) like below instead of find($id), you will get error like Column not found for the columns that are not present in User related table. So it is best way to do this :
User::where('id','=',$user_id)->update(['column_name'=>'value']);
Instead of :
User::find($user_id)->update($data_array)?true:false;
Update method always return int. For more info Check Here
or If you want to update the the record by using Object Relation Mapping way then you can do like this :
$user = User::find($user_id) ;
$user->column_name = 'value';
if($user->save()){
//do something when user is update
}else{
// do something wehn user is not update
}
You cannot get error into false there because validation of Laravel use library.
For Laravel 4.2
public function update($user_id) {
$data_array = Input::all();
$validator = Validator::make(
$data_array,
array('name' => 'required|min:5')
);
if ($validator->passes()) {
// success as true
User::find($user_id)->update($data_array)
} else {
//failed as false
}
}
For more information about validator
I hope this help you
I'm creating a registration form using codeigniter. I understand that there is a validation for each field in CI but what I want to do is to validate a multiple field exist.
SELECT emp_id FROM emp_record WHERE firstname = 'firstname' AND lastname = 'firstname' AND birthdate = 'firstname'
If the query above find a match I want to alert on my view page that the record already exist.
Please help.
Appreciate it. Thanks.
Declare a custom callback function
function _check_firstname()
{
$firstname = $this->security->xss_clean($this->input->post('firstname'));
$array = array('firstname' => $firstname, 'birthdate' => $firstname);
$result = $this->db->select('emp_id')->from('emp_record')->where($array)->get();
if($result->num_rows())
{
$this->form_validation->set_message('_check_firstname', 'Record already exists');
return false;
}else
{
return true;
}
}
Set rules including (callback__check_firstname)
$this->form_validation->set_rules('firstname', 'First Name', 'trim|required|callback__check_firstname');
Now, when you'll check validation like
if ($this->form_validation->run()){
// passes
}
else{
// not passes, so show the view again
}
In the view, if you have something like this
<?php echo form_error('firstname') ?>
This will show the error message set in the custom callback function.
You could use num_rows() to do such things.
By using active record you can achieve this by doing the following
$qry = $this->db->select('emp_id')->from('emp_record')
->where('firstname', $firstname)
->where('lastname', $lastname)
->where('birthdate', $birthdate)
->get();
if ($qry->num_rows() > 0)
return TRUE;
else
return FALSE;
This will return TRUE if it finds at least one row in your database or FALSE if it finds nothing.
some people can/may have the same firstname,lastname and birthdate
But still if you want to have it that way you could create a callback validation
here is a snippet.
public function checkinput()
{
// you may want to sanitize the input
$data['fname'] = $this->input->post('fname');
$data['lname'] = $this->input->post('fname');
$data['mname'] = $this->input->post('fname');
//your model for checking data must return TRUE or FALSE
if($this->model->method_for_checking($data))
{
this->form_validation->set_message('checkinput', 'Duplicate data exists.');
return TRUE;
}else{
return FALSE;
}
}
Now you can use it on your validation rules i.e
$this->form_validation('fname','fname',callback_checkinput);
Other options are
Extend a form validation and create a validation rule there as not
to clutter the controller
Or ,After Submitting the form before inserting the data, you can check whether it is a duplicate and do the logical things their.
