Cannot send JSON data from Django to javascript - ajax

I need to send some data from html file to django for some processing and return it back using ajax
But the response goes to the error callback in the ajax call with status=0
This is the ajax code, I've tried both commented URLs
function snapshot() {
ctx.drawImage(video, 0,0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
imageData = ctx.getImageData(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height)
console.log(imageData)
//url:"{% url 'blind:getcaption' %}",
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'http://127.0.0.1:8000/blind/ajax/getcaption/',
//url: /ajax/getcaption/
data: {
'img': imageData
},
dataType: 'json',
success: function (data) {
console.log(data);
},
error: function(request, status, error){
console.log(request, " " ,status, " ", error)
}
});
}
This is views.py
def getcaption(request):
img = request.GET.get('img', None)
data = {'caption': "This caption for test"}
return JsonResponse(data)
And urls.py
app_name = 'blind'
urlpatterns = [
path('', views.index, name='index'),
url(r'^ajax/getcaption/$', views.getcaption, name='getcaption'),
]
But when I type in the url tap url:'http://127.0.0.1:8000/blind/ajax/getcaption/ I get the json object back viewed in chrome

Firstly you can write the url in the ajax call as illustrated below and then parse the JSON you are getting on success.
function snapshot() {
ctx.drawImage(video, 0,0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
imageData = ctx.getImageData(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height)
console.log(imageData)
//url:"{% url 'blind:getcaption' %}",
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url : '{% url "getcaption" %}',
data: {
'img': imageData
},
dataType: 'json',
success: function (data) {
console.log(JSON.parse(data));
},
error: function(request, status, error){
console.log(request, " " ,status, " ", error)
}
});
}
Then change your view, dump the dictionary to a json object before returning a json response:
def getcaption(request):
img = request.GET.get('img', None)
data = {'caption': "This caption for test"}
return JsonResponse(data)

merge ajaxform with ajax to upload image

I try to create upload photos in my nodejs site.
I used this code to choose file and upload the image:
var fileData = null;
function loadFile() {
var preview = document.querySelector('file');
var file = document.querySelector('input[type=file]').files[0];
var reader = new FileReader();
reader.onloadend = function () {
fileData = file;
}
if (file) {
reader.readAsDataURL(file);
}
}
function uploadFile() {
data = new FormData();
data.append('file', fileData);
$.ajax({
url: "/post_pdf/",
type: "POST",
data: data,
enctype: 'multipart/form-data',
processData: false,
contentType: false,
success: function(data) {
document.getElementById("result").innerHTML = 'Result: Upload successful';
},
error: function(e) {
document.getElementById("result").innerHTML = 'Result: Error occurred: ' + e.message;
}
});
}
With loadfile funcion i choose my image, and with Uploadfile function i upload the image with ajax.
if i use it alone its work perfect and upload the image to the location.
but when i try to add this code to my code, it make alot of errors.
in my code i send to back end all the forms in the pug file:
$('#account-form').ajaxForm({
error : function(e){
if (e.responseText == 'title-empty'){
av.showInvalidTitle();
}
},
success : function(responseText, status, xhr, $form){
if (status == 'success')
{
$('.modal-alert').modal('show');
console.log(responseText)
}}
});
i try to merge the ajaxform with the ajax but when i merege the formdata or i send in ajaxform the data of the file is send error.
how can i merge the codes?
thanks for helping.
Try to submit form it will submit form with your image.
let form = $("#form_id");
$.ajax({
url : $(form).attr("action"),
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
processData: false,
contentType: false,
cache: false,
data: new FormData(form[0]),
success:function(data){
},
error: function (xhr, status, e) {
}
});
#Yogesh Patel
when i use this code:
$('#account-form-btn2').on('click', function(e) {
let form = $("#account-form");
$.ajax({
url: $(form).attr("action"),
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
processData: false,
contentType: false,
cache: false,
data: new FormData(form[0]),
error: function (e) {
if (e.responseText == 'title-empty') {
av.showInvalidTitle();
}
},
success: function (responseText, status, xhr, $form) {
if (status == 'success') {
$('.modal-alert').modal('show');
}
}
});
});
for some reason it sends the values to "routes" three times.
and it doesn't catch the erorrs or success.
and it sends me to a white window with the value of the callback.
if needed, i can send the function that gets the values and returns them (app.post).

File upload using jquery/ajax for REST API

I was trying to upload file to a remote server using REST api by ajax/jquery with the following script, but it returns 400 error with a Bad request. I have tested the end point with curl, which is giving correct response and file is being uploaded.
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#btnSubmit").click(function (event) {
//stop submit the form, we will post it manually.
event.preventDefault();
fire_ajax_submit();
});
});
function fire_ajax_submit() {
// Get form
var form = $('#fileUploadForm')[0];
alert(form.files[0]);
var data = new FormData(form);
data.append("CustomField", "This is some extra data, testing");
$("#btnSubmit").prop("disabled", true);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
enctype: 'multipart/form-data',
url: "http://10.13.20.166:5332/fileUploadtoFolder",
data: data,
processData: false,
contentType: false,
cache: false,
timeout: 600000,
success: function (data) {
$("#result").text(data);
console.log("SUCCESS : ", data);
$("#btnSubmit").prop("disabled", false);
},
error: function (e) {
$("#result").text(e.responseText);
console.log("ERROR : ", e);
$("#btnSubmit").prop("disabled", false);
}
});
}
Change your code 👇
var data = new FormData(form);
Use this code 👇
// Create an FormData object
var data = new FormData(document.getElementById("fileUploadForm"));
Try again

ajax call returning promis and resolve it by the calling function to its value

By now i read somewhere around 6 pages containing documentations and stackoverflow answers but I don't get the method.
My function is by now after reading all the stuff built like this:
async function getFToken(postId){
const response = await $.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: ajax_object.ajax_url,
data:{
action:'get_f_token',
postId: postId,
},
success:function(response) {
}
});
return response;
}
and in my other function is like this:
function getFeedback(postId){
$(".show_company").hide();
$(".show_feedback").show();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
dataType: "text json",
url: ajax_object.ajax_url,
data:{
action:'get_feedback',
postId: postId,
},
success:function(response) {
var postTitle = '';
for (i in response) {
postTitle += "<h1>" + response[i].post_title + "</h1><br/><br/>" + response[i].ID ;
var test = getFToken(387);
alert(Promise.resolve(test));
};
$("#result").html(postTitle);
}
});
}
is there any chance, that this is a bigger issue because i call a async in another Ajax call trying to retrieve the value? I'm trying to get the string from the first ajax call and hand it to the second function in the ajax call to attach it to the posts i retrieve from WordPress
The alert is giving me [object Promise] but how do i get the value passed from the php script?
php-scrtipt:
//get fToken from specific feedbacks
add_action( 'wp_ajax_get_f_token', 'get_f_token' );
function get_f_token() {
if(isset($_POST['postId'])){
$postId = $_POST['postId'];
}
$fToken = get_post_meta($postId, 'fToken', true);
echo $fToken;
wp_die();
}
Don't use success callbacks when you can use async/await:
async function getFToken(postId) {
return $.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: ajax_object.ajax_url,
data: {
action: 'get_f_token',
postId: postId,
}
});
}
async function getFeedback(postId) {
$(".show_company").hide();
$(".show_feedback").show();
const response = await $.ajax({
// ^^^^^
type: "POST",
dataType: "text json",
url: ajax_object.ajax_url,
data: {
action: 'get_feedback',
postId: postId,
}
});
let postTitle = '';
for (const i in response) {
postTitle += "<h1>" + response[i].post_title + "</h1><br/><br/>" + response[i].ID ;
const test = await getFToken(387);
// ^^^^^
alert(test); // no Promise.resolve, you don't want to alert a promise
}
$("#result").html(postTitle);
}

var xhrobj = $.ajaxSettings.xhr();
if (xhrobj.upload) {
xhrobj.upload.addEventListener('progress', function(event) {
var percent = 0;
var position = event.loaded || event.position;
var total = event.total;
if (event.lengthComputable) {
percent = Math.ceil(position / total * 100);
}
//Set progress
status.setProgress(percent);
}, false);
}
return xhrobj;
},
url: uploadURL,
type: "POST",
contentType:false,
processData: false,
cache: false,
data: formData,
success: function(data){
status.setProgress(100);
$("#status1").append("File upload Done<br>");
}
});
status.setAbort(jqXHR);
}
contentType: 'multipart/form-data',
processData: false,
type: 'POST'
make sure you check your contentType

AJAX call to Justin TV API failing with JSON format

I'm trying to make a simple AJAX call to the Justin TV API, which seems to be failing consistently.
When making the AJAX call with url1, the console reports Object { readyState=4, status=200, statusText="success"}, yet it falls into the error function of the AJAX call. When visiting the URL with my browser, I notice the returned data is [{ ... json ...}].
When making the AJAX call with 'url', the call passes, entering the success function. I notice the returned object is { ...json... }.
How do I get a valid JSON object out of the AJAX request for url1?
Here's a snip of what I'm doing:
var url1 = "http://api.justin.tv/api/stream/list.json"
var url = "https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/streams/";
channelNames = "";
for (channelName in streams)
{
channelNames = channelNames + ',' + channelName;
}
channelNames = channelNames.slice(1);
console.log(channelNames);
console.log(url1);
$.ajax({
url: url1,
type: 'GET',
crossDomain: true,
dataType: 'jsonp',
data: { channel : channelNames },
success: function(data)
{
console.log(data);
if(data.streams.length > 0)
{
$("#streamStatus").html("<ul class='zebra'>");
for(i = 0; i < data.streams.length; i++)
{
stream = data.streams[i];
channel = data.streams[i].channel;
listItem = "<li id='stream"+i+"'>";
streamName = "<span class='name'>" + streams[stream.name.slice(10)] + "</span>";
viewers = "<span class='viewers'>viewers:" + stream.viewers + "</span>";
gameName = "<div class='game'>" + ((channel.game != null) ? channel.game : "No Game Specified") + "</div>";
listItem += streamName + viewers + gameName + "</li>";
screenCap = "<div class='screenCap' style='display:none;'>" + channel.screen_cap_url_small + "</div>"
$("#streamStatus ul.zebra").append(listItem);
$("#streamStatus ul.zebra").append(screenCap);
//console.log(channel);
}
$("#streamStatus").append("</ul>");
}
},
error: function(data)
{
console.log(data);
}
EDIT: Here is the working solution...
var url1 = "http://api.justin.tv/api/stream/list.json"
var url = "https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/streams/";
channelNames = "";
for (channelName in streams)
{
channelNames = channelNames + ',' + channelName;
}
channelNames = channelNames.slice(1);
console.log(channelNames);
console.log(url1);
$.ajax({
url: url1,
type: 'GET',
crossDomain: true,
dataType: 'jsonp',
jsonp: 'jsonp',
data: { channel : channelNames },
success: function(data)
{
...
},
error: function(data)
{
console.log(data);
}
You're passing jsonp as the dataType in the ajax call. They're not interchangeable.
As you've noted yourself, the data returned from url1 is JSON, not JSONP: JSONP requires wrapping the returned JSON data in a javascript function call.
A mismatch like this between dataType and the data in the response body will always cause the ajax call to fail.
