Kibana Windows zip distribution takes too long to unzip - elasticsearch

I have downloaded latest kibana OSS zip file from here.
However I noticed its taking too long to extract the zip on Windows default zip extract utility.
Is it meant to be this much time consuming Or do I need to change anything on my machine to improve it ?

The default unzipping functionality in Windows cannot, for whatever reason, unzip Kibana. It times out when I try it and I've seen others have the same problem. I've never had this issue with anything besides Kibana, so I'm pretty confident the problem is with Kibana.
The way I unzipped it in the end was by downloading 7zip. Then I right clicked on the Kibana .zip folder and unzipped it with 7zip. Took like 5 minutes which is ridiculous but it still worked.
Get 7zip here

This is basically a known issue on Windows, but I'm not sure what can be done against it (other than convince Microsoft to add a better implementation).
An alternative ZIP client should help with the problem though if I remember correctly.

Only upload the latest folder to FTP (Local -> Remote)

I need to be able to upload a local folder (created daily) to a remote FTP everyday.
I’ve messed with WinSCP file masks (i.e. put -filemask="*>=today" C:\local\ /) and ran into issues where it would upload the latest folder (contained subfiles) but it would also upload the rest of the folders in the directory. (they were empty) I then realized filemasks only works specifically for files, not folders.
I then came across this thread: Download files newer than X days from SFTP server with WinSCP, skipping folders that do not contain any matching files
User had the same issue except he was going Remote -> Local whereas I need the opposite, solution was to use PowerShell
Considering that thread is a couple years old, does WinSCP scripting now support such a feature? Unfortunately I’m a bit of a novice with PowerShell.
Thanks for your time.
WinSCP does not support time constraints for folders.
But what has changed (since the other question) is that now you can prevent WinSCP from creating the empty folders. Use -rawtransfersettings switch with ExcludeEmptyDirectories setting.
put -rawtransfersettings ExcludeEmptyDirectories=1 -filemask="*>=today" C:\local\ /
If you really need to upload the latest folder (as opposite to uploading the folder with the latest files), using WinSCP .NET assembly from your favourite language (like PowerShell) is still the way to go, as shown in the other question.

VScode: how to setup for local edit and ftp-deplyment

I used to use Dreamweaver. I've a huge Classic ASP website. I edit the files on my local system, and when done, I can upload the file(s) via ftp to the remote webserver. Now, I try to switch to VSCode. I've installed ftp-simple, ftp-sync and deploy. But can't find the set-up to get a Dreamweaver like behaviour. Eg, I have to locate for each file I want to upload/deploy, the exact location in the remote file tree.
I really feel like deploy deserves more attention. I spent the past 4 days or so to find an extension that does just that. Auto-upload to an ftp-folder from a local folder. I wanted to make git work for my website, but couldn't get that to work on the server with ftp-simple or ftp-sync because those extensions only download the opened files or open in a different temporary folder each time. I set up deploy now and got exactly what I wanted thanks to your tiny comment, thank you!
(I'm sorry if this post is too old to comment on, but I browsed Stack overflow for days to find this, so I thought it might help others in the future to point this out.)
it sounds like your just missing your mapping configuration. Most text editor FTP packages include a configuration file where you specify the server, your credentials, and the root folder of your ftp server. Have you specified this?

.ini file not being modified/updated when doing an upgrade with installshield since some folders are not being deleted when upgrading

Not too long ago I got a new job working on a tool that the company created to make people's lives easier when working on AWR.
I have successfully done multiple fixes and improvements which I was able to distribute via HotFix installers (simply overwrite the files that are already there).
My latest change/addition to the tool requires I create a complete installer for the tool. This particular tool always installs 2 versions, the current/new and the previous/old, to give a smoother transition to users. I have never done an installer before so I am learning as I go.
I was able to create an installer using the previous installshield project by simply updating/adding/removing files and folders. This works great when there is no version of the tool installed on the computer and there are no files/folders of any version of it on the installation locations.
I looked online and found that to make an installer that will install over a previous version I would need to do a major upgrade with installshield, which I did do after reading that. Now the installer successfully installs over the old version, it successfully places the new files and folders on their locations but always leaves one particular empty folder behind, the one for the 1.1.1 version.
That didn't seem like a problem until I realized that the .exe failed to modify the .ini file that it needs to modify to let AWR know where to look for the scripts. I looked through the .exe code and after running some tests, running it alone, I realized the .exe is not the problem, it does the job correctly. After doing many tests I found that as long as those empty folders exist the .ini files cannot be modified. I have no clue why since the .ini file is pretty much a .txt file and it makes no sense for there to be some sort of dependency on the 1.1.1 folder.
So my problem is one of two, either I have to figure out a way to make sure that the upgrade deletes those 1.1.1 folders or find a way to modify the .ini files with those folders still there. I have looked online and every solution requires me/the user to manually do something and I am being asked to make the installer simply work when used. They are asking me to make it so the installer takes care of everything and the user should not do anything except run the installer.
Since the installer works correctly as long as those folders are not there I figured making sure the installer removes them is the best way but I am stuck and I do not know how to proceed.
Thank you for any advice and help you can provide with this issue.
Solution:
Deleted all files I needed to make sure were updated from the components list and re-added them to the installshield project.
Since doing that everything was updated correctly and the folders were removed since the .exe was the correct one.

Filezilla removes line breaks on php files [duplicate]

How can I stop Filezilla changing my linebreaks?
For some reason Filezilla sometimes removes line breaks on my php files making the code appear on a single line giving me a bunch of errors when I upload my projects, I was looking around and changed my transfer type to Binary but I still have the same issues, downloaded CuteFTP as well but same problem.
Does anyone know what can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Now that I check, when I upload the files to my hosting they look in one line as well, but it doesn't give me any errors, the problem is when I upload to my clients host, could it be some configuration on the hosting or something?
change the "Transfer" to "Binary" (Do not keep it as a "Auto"). Restart Filezilla and upload files as it is.
Well, I managed to solve my problem, I dont exactly know how I just deleted the folder, uploaded as ASCII again, changed to Binari, restarted Filezilla, deleted the files again, and re-upload it as Binari again. For some reason it works now, maybe you have to restart Filezilla to apply the changes correctly.
Sounds like it may not be the FTP that is entirely the issue. If you're saving these files using the wrong encoding, this undesired result can be achieved. What program are you saving these files in?
If you have a file on the server in question that is formatted properly, download it with the FTP programs, then upload it without re-saving it. Check the downloaded copies and the uploaded copies to see if the issue is still occurring.

How do I schedule for all the files of one folder to be moved to another server?

I did a quick search and couldn't see anything that was relevant which I found strange as this seems like it'd be a common question. Maybe I'm just going the wrong way about it or being thick? Who knows.
Anyway, I am trying to set up a scheduled task that moves all the files in a folder from Server A to a folder in Server B. If this was a simple matter of copying them it would be fine as I'd already got that working using Core FTP and a batch file but I'd like them to be removed from Server A after the copy has taken place.
I was looking at the windows ftp commands but although I managed to log onto Server A successfully from Server B whenever I tried to do a command it just took a very long time and then disconnected.
Any help in this would be appreciated, I need it to be a schedule-able file but it doesn't matter whether it is a .bat, .vbs or anything else that I haven't though of?
Thanks,
Harry
You could use www.Dropbox.com
Why? For stability. Any home-brew ftp script that moves files, is prone to an undetected error in transmission, resulting in deleted files.
