I have a fresh EC2 setup on AWS and have loaded Mautic files into the main /html directory. When I go to that directory, I just get a screen saying:
"The site is currently offline due to encountering an error. If the problem persists, please contact the system administrator."
I have been digging everywhere to find a solution. I know this is not a real error message and it gives no details. The error logs are not being helpful either. There is one thing that shows over and over in error_log which is:
AH01071: Got error 'Primary script unknown\n'
I have rebooted this server, tried different combos of ownership and permissions, etc. I'm at a loss. I'm hoping someone can provide some insight to get me over this hump and actually get Mautic installed.
SIDE NOTE: Please do not suggest using Bitnami to install Mautic. We've already done that and found it to be very unstable. We are hoping a clean install that isn't dependant on anything else will work better for us. Thanks.
run following commands:
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/mautic/
sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/html/mautic/

I am a Web Frontend designer and i'm tired about MAC OSX El Capitan and his sick permissions systems on files and folders, the next is happening:
Every time that i tried to get any Bower package, NPM, or whatever console package i get this problem:
Example: 'Bower install angular-translate'
Console response:
'Error: EACCES: permission denied, open '/Users/carl/.config/configstore/bower-github.json'
You don't have access to this file.'
This is not just for this package in specific, it happend with everything that i tried to download/install in every place in my laptop.
I am the administrator on this machine, i been google that like 5 or 10 times always getting same results and always going to the same way (solutions like 'chmod-R 777* on the folder/file').
My question is the next:
There is some 'permanent' way to get all my files and folders 'global' administrator permissions no matter what? i mean, i know that is not secure, pero it is ok, i am the only one who use this laptop.

In order to solve the issue. I ran the command 'sudo chown -R $USER ~/' from the terminal. While inside the same terminal window, I then ran 'bower install' which solved my issue! Afterwards, I was able to install other packages(Ex. bower install bootstrap --save.
im trying to install cloud manager on ubuntu 12.04.
But im failed and below is the error :
oracle-j2sdk1.7 installation failed. See /var/log/cloudera-manager-installer/3.install-oracle-j2sdk1.7.log for details. Click OK to revert this installation.
Any help can be appricaited now.

Looks like its some kind of lock already in place which might occur at login or because of the first attempt at the installation failing.
Try logging in, maybe even rebooting and trying again.
If this still fails, try the following:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update
This should force an update and recreate the directory correctly. There's a thread about this on the Ubuntu forums which might be more useful and provide a lot more information on this problem:

If this is still a problem. Provide the full stack trace/log that is mentioned in the error.
We can't blindly provide advice, we need the actual error from the log in order to help you.

I have no experience with Kirby, but here's how to get Dropbox working on Openshift.
The following is a combination of doing a Dropbox install on a server and doing it in a non-standard location. Everything gets done in $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR because that's where you have write privileges.
First, make sure you're in $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR
cd $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR
Next, download the appropriate version of Dropbox:
wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86" | tar xzf -
This should give you the .dropbox-dist folder in $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR.
Next, tell Dropbox to start the installation process, but tell it that your home directory is actually the $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR:
HOME=$OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR ./.dropbox-dist/dropboxd start -i
Follow the instructions to link your Dropbox account to the Openshift server. After it's linked, it should start syncing everything in your Dropbox account to $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR/Dropbox. This might be a bad thing for you because you have too much data in your Dropbox account. If so, then you should exclude folders.
You can do that with the CLI script that Dropbox provides. Still in $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR, download it:
wget -O dropbox.py "https://www.dropbox.com/download?dl=packages/dropbox.py"
Make sure it's executable:
chmod +x dropbox.py
You need to run it the same way you would Dropbox:
HOME=$OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR $OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR/dropbox.py -h

You should be able to download/compile/install things into your OPENSHIFT_DATA_DIR (app-root/data) on your gear by using something like ./configure --prefix=~/app-root/data/dropbox, i tried that but i ran into missing the nautilus-whatever package, which i assume you could download and install in the same fashion, but i did not try past that point. As long as whatever you are running can be installed into the app-root/data, and does not require root permissions to run, you should be able to do it. If you get it going, you could also create a downloadable cartridge to run install it more easily.
I have just installed MariaDB via homebrew on my Mac. At the end of the installation I got the following error:

If I run brew postinstall mariadb I get:

Which isn't helpful! The tutorial I was following told me to run unset TEMPDIR, then mysql_install_db --user=mysql --basedir=$(brew --prefix mariadb); running those results in the following:
/usr/local/opt/mariadb/bin/my_print_defaults: Can't read dir of '/usr/local/etc/my.cnf.d' (Errcode: 2)
Fatal error in defaults handling. Program aborted
chown: ./data: Operation not permitted
Cannot change ownership of the database directories to the 'mysql'
user. Check that you have the necessary permissions and try again.
I suspect the problem has something to do with the /usr/local/etc/my.cnf.d folder. I've seen this referred to in a couple of things I've tried, but it doesn't exist on my machine. I have tried a few different mysql_install_db commands I've found in other tutorials, but they all throw up a (different) error message.

Just open the config file at /usr/local/etc/my.cnf with your editor and comment out the following line:
!includedir /usr/local/etc/my.cnf.d
Having been unsuccessful with further Googling of the problem I tried manually creating a /usr/local/etc/my.cnf.d and now the mysql_install_db command seems to have worked okay. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate solution or if my.cnf.d not existing is indicative of a deeper problem with the install but, as things seem to be working, I'll mark as resolved.
[Update] As I was a little unsure in my answer whether this was the 'correct' solution I just wanted to confirm that, after a month, everything is still working fine.
None of the solution here helped, I had to do this:

in short,
I made a backup of the folder /usr/local/var/mysql , then removed it
removed Mariadb brew remove mariadb
reinstalled Mariadb brew install mariadb
run brew services start mariadb
After that I could access with mysql -u root
You might have an orphaned configuration file. I was able to solve this problem by deleting an old /usr/local/etc/my.cnf. YMMV.
If you're having this problem in 2021
This worked for me:
sudo mysql_install_db
sudo chown -R <YOUR USER NAME HERE> /usr/local/mysql # for example sudo chown -R jperez /usr/mysql
sudo chgrp -R admin /usr/local/mysql
After that, running mysql or mariadb will show the database prompt.
This problem seems to have recently gone away.
A simple bew upgrade resolved the problem for me.
You may want to go
/usr/local/mysql
and delete the old MySQL file and install again
My objective is to have Joomla 3.1 running on an Ubuntu server using nginx.
I am testing the setup locally but I keep encountering problems. I think this is concerned with the permissions in my Joomla source files.
I tried to install a package (T3) manually using the "Install From Directory" option. However, I receive the following message:

Package Install: There was an error installing an extension:
plg_system_t3
I know that this is the wrong way to set up the server but currently I have all the source files permissions set to 777. When this T3 package tries to install, it creates a folder in plugins/system/ called t3. This has only permissions drwxr-xr-x and thus the reason for the above errors.
My question is: What is the correct method to set up my Joomla 3.1 package such that I can ensure a smooth operation of the site, in a secure manner.

The permissions when t3 installs are correct, it sounds like the problem is with ownership rather than permissions.
I think in ubuntu the system user is www-data so you would need to run the following over ssh
chown -hR www-data:www-data /path/to/joomla/root
Then upload the plugin through the joomla installer (and change folder permissions back to 755 and files to 644).
