Have you tried passing data from your controller to the view using this something like this:
public function show($id)
{
$foods = Food::Find($id);
return view('foods.show')->with('foods', $foods);
}
or, if you're passing multiple variables to the view:
public function show($id)
{
$foods = Food::Find($id);
$something = "else";
return view('foods.show', compact('foods', 'something'));
}
Your view doesn't know what $foods is at that point, so it's always good practice to check that foods is set before the loop:
#if (isset($foods) && $foods->count() > 0)
#foreach($foods as $food)
...
#endforeach
#endif

If you want the variable to be named foods in the view then you would need to use withFoods not withFood:
return view(...)->withFoods($foods);
As mentioned in the other answers, there are other ways to pass data to the views as well.
There is no data being passed to a view.
This is how you pass data to a view:

I have an assessment I am not having an easy time of. I keep getting stuck on very small stuff. Im a 3d artist learning to code. So the part I am currently stuck on (small part of quite a large assignment) is I have a home page that lists restaurants like a food portal similar to like uber eats. Clicking on those restaurants is meant to load up a specific menu to the restaurant. But I can't seem to get this working. The database has 10 menu items per restaurant ID and 5 Restaurants in total. I am using sqlite3 as the database with seeder data'.
Ive had many errors but the latest is "Call to undefined relationship [menus] on model [App\Menu]."
Any help is appreciated, Ive already wasted so much time on seeder issues and now getting stuck on this part feels so trivial compared to the rest of the assignment :(

In your Controller search method, assign search result to $orders

then send it to the view:

There are some issues with the code you have shared, I try to tell the ones I see.
there is a misspelling in Route::resource where instead of search you coded seearch
as for search method it is not used anywhere by the route you provided. You can see more details on Route::resource for methods and views at this question
now considering that you are loading index.blade.php from the public function index method, the usage of compact is troubled. At this page, you can see how compact and with are different and how to use it. The main problem here is that you are not actually passing the order to your view at all.
The last but not least, it is good practice to name items having a collection of values plurally. For example here the order should change to orders. This would prevent the misuse of it in foreach. In your foreach, the name of the iterating array and the temp variable keeping the data should be different, or otherwise, they would have conflict. Here you have 2 variables called order in the same scope.

Check your view blade, that method (links()) only could be used when your data model is implementing paginate() method.
If you dont use paginate(), remove this part:
{{$messages->links() }}
If you are trying to paginate your data when it gets to the view then you need to add the paginate in your controller before passing the data to the view. Example
return $users = Users::select('id','name')->paginate(10);
with that paginate method in your controller, you can call the links method to paginate your object in view as shown below
{{$users->links()}}

There are 2 ways to resolve this issue:
Either use paginate function while searching data from database:

Remove links() function from index.blade.php

Remove {{ $messages->links() }} to in your index.blade.php because {{ $messages->links() }} is supported only when you use paginate
