What is the difference between annotating EntityManager with #Autowired and #PersistenceContext? Which one should be preferred? - spring-boot

I am developing a Spring-Boot application using spring-boot-starter-data-jpa. I am not able to understand which annotation I should use for injecting EntityManager?
#Autowired or #PersistenceContext
I know #PersistenceContext is a JPA annotation whereas #Autowired belongs to Spring. But internally how do they make a difference?
I have already taken a look at this. But could not understand the exact reason.

A datasource is source of data. This could be for example a database.
One option if you need multiple datasources is to define them in a persistence.xml file. Here you can define multiple and separate them by name.
#PersistenceContext will then give you more fine grain of what you want to inject. Here you can select which datasource by defined name. There are some other options too.

If using #Autowire you are just injecting the available persistence context by bean name. If you have 2 or more persistence contexts this may fail because of ambiguity.

What class implements the spring framework Autowired

I downloaded the spring-framework project, because I want to see how #Autowired is implemented.
So, I got to this file, which is an interface.
But when I want in Intellij to go to its implementation, no implementations are found.
So is this interface not implemented?
Then where is the code for #Autowired?
Well, this is not an interface it is actually an annotation.
In java #inteface is used to create an annotation.
Once the annotation is created, you can use that annotation on fields, classes, methods (based on what is specified in #Target of the annotation definition.
Spring does package scanning and finds all the things which are using a particular annotation and does the required processing.

#Autowired doesn't really have much code, so to speak. It's just an annotation which is a Java type of interface that provides instructions to other parts of the codebase.
#Autowired is only an annotation or you can say a "marker". Spring use reflection to identify annotation and do something about that annotated thing. For example with #Autowired, when spring found it, spring will inject the annotated property with eligible bean.

When to use Spring #Autowire annotation

Recently I had discussion with my friend regarding usage of Spring #Autowire annotation on entity(JPA) classes.
In our project we are using #Autowire annotaion to inject Entity but my friend suggesting not to use #Autowire annotaions on entity classes. When I asked why? He dont have the proper answer for that. So i just wanted to know are there any disadvantages using #Autowire annotaion on entity classes.
Also please explain when to go for #Autowire annotaion or not with example.

#Entity and #Autowire are not interchangeable.
#Entity annotation indicates that the JavaBean is a persistent entity.This is actually a JPA annotation and not a Spring Annotation.
#Entity will be used in the sessionFactory by the packagesToScan poroerty.

Company is your domain object, so you don't need to use spring in this case.

The above will return the same instance with #autowire.
Even if you switch to scope="prototype" I don't see any reason to use spring for that.
You should have a service that will be used to CRUD company e.g.
CompanyService, this service will be a single tone so you will use #Autowire to inject it to the controller and it will use your JPA framework to implement CRUD's
To create a new company you will use:

#Autowire is an annotation used to perform a dependency injection, its almost similar to the standard #Inject you can take a look at the spring reference manual to see the difference between those two annotations.
#Entity is a part of the jpa framework its used to mark a class as persistent, spring does not implement an equivalent annotation.

Autowired spring bean is not a proxy

I'm working on a very small application connecting to a MySQL database.
I'm trying to create table record but getting 'no transaction in progress'.
I have all the right stuff in place:
a service interface MyService and its implementation MyServiceImpl
I have annotated the service impl with #Service
In the controller I used the interface name for the field #Autowired MyService
I have the correct transaction configuration as it was originally generated by roo
There is a public method MyService.create(...) which MyServiceImpl implements
But,
When I remote debug and inspect the controller's myService field what I see is something like
com.some.package.services.MyService#12345 (and NOT something like $Proxy73) which to me is not right, because what should be autowired is the proxy not he target bean (which is what I think this is). If I'm correct then it makes sense that there is no transaction as the annotation would only kick in when invoking a public method annotated with #Transactional on a proxy.
Please tell me why is spring injecting the target bean in this setup.

If you have AspectJ-enabled transaction management (<tx:annotation-driven mode="aspectj" .../>) application of transactions happens in-place in the same class, either during build (compile-time weaving) or on startup (load-time weaving).
No new classes are created (like when using cglib) and no proxies (like with ordinary interface-based AOP in Spring). Instead bytecode of MyServiceImpl was modified directly without you even noticing. Unfortunately the only way to see AOP is to decompile your classes. If you use javap -c MyServiceImpl you'll find plenty of references to Spring transaction layer.
If you are using Spring MVC, make sure to scan specific controller classes alone in servlet context file. Otherwise it will scan 2 times and transaction is not available on the application context.

Best Practise of injecting applicationContext in Spring3

As in the title above, I am confused about pros cons between injecting applicationContext by directly #Autowired annnotation or implementing ApplicationContextAware interface in a singleton spring bean.
Which one do you prefer in which cases and why? Thanks.
Actually, both are bad. Both of them tie your application to the Spring framework, thus inverting the whole inversion-of-control concept. In an ideal world, your application should not be aware of being managed by an ApplicationContext at all.
Once you have chosen to violate this principle, it doesn't really matter how you do it. ApplicationContextAware is the legacy version that has been around at least since Version 2.0. #Autowired is a newer mechanism but they work in pretty much the same way. I'd probably go with ApplicationContextAware, because it semantically makes clear what it is about.
As #Sean Patrick Floyd says, the need of ApplicationContext is often due to a bad design. But sometimes you have no other option. In those cases I prefer the use of #Autowired because is the way I inject all other properties. So, if I use #Autowired for injecting MyRepository, why can't I use it for ApplicationContext or any other Spring bean?
I use Spring interfaces only for those things I can't do with annotations, for example BeanNameAware.
If you need to get a prototype in a singleton then you can use method injection. Basically, you create an abstract method that returns the object you need and spring will return the prototype everytime you call that method. You define the "lookup-method" in your spring config. Here are some links:

Since you are not extending any of the spring classes your application is always separated from the framework. Most of the cases you will not wanted to inject the ApplicationContext as it, but will need to inject the beans defined in the ApplicationContext.
The best case is always to stick to the bare minimum, until and unless you have any specific requirement and this is very simple with spring.
So either,
Annotate your beans and scan them in application context, then use #Autowire to wire them up.
Use application context to wire your bean expediencies(old xml style configs). You can use #Autowire with this approach also.
When you want to control the bean life cycle, you can read the API and customize it, but most of the time these general settings will do the job.

There is no need to use ApplicationContext at all.
ObjectFactory
If you need to use prototype scoped beans in a singleton bean, inject an org.springframework.beans.factory.ObjectFactory.
For example using constructor injection:

Now what's the benefit over using ApplicationContext ?
You can substitute this dependency (e.g. in a test) by simply passing a lambda (since ObjectFactory is a #FunctionalInterface) that returns a stubbed version of it.
While it is possible to stub the ApplicationContext, it is not clear in that case which beans will be looked up and need to be stubbed.

Is it possible to use #Transational worked in Spring, Eclipselink &Tomcat environment?

I was confused by the EclipseLink for Tomcat documentation saying:
Limitations to JPA:
No #PersistenceContext injection of a container managed persistence unit is available - use Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory(JTA_PU_NAME)
and, also by this question&answer:
but the typical JPA configuration in Spring looks like this, so you don't need to create EntityManager manually :
#PersistenceContext
private EntityManager em;
So, the question is: may I use this annotation #PersistenceContext for the entityManager to be sure that it will be created automatically and I dont need to create it manually?
Currently my #Transactional annotation does not work properly and I'm afraid it is because of creating the entity manager manually!
Please, need help.
EclipseLink documentation says that #PersistenceContext is not handled by Tomcat on its own. However, if you use Spring, #PersistenceContext is handled by Spring, so that you can use it.
