Windows app camera not working when installed through windows store - windows

This seems to be a permissions issue. I have an app that when installed through the windows store onto a windows tablet, the camera doesn't work in the app. Its a white blank screen. When I install the app in developer mode with a powershell script, the camera works just fine. Does anyone have an idea of what can be causing this?

The Windows Store installation installs with a lot more options than when you installed via PowerShell. I would say that it's one of these options that's causing the unexpected camera behavior, or that it's just a different (misconfigured) version of the app that the developer put on the Windows Store. In any case this issue would be app-specific, so I would encourage you to file a bug report/complaint with the developer of the app telling him about the issue and giving a full description. (Logs of the app would usually help in this case.)

Unity Crash on MacOS when the join method is invoked (Agora.io)

I downloaded the agora.io video sdk asset from the asset store, imported it to a new project. On the demo "SceneHome" scene, I entered the api id. Clicked play, and as soon as I click the "join" button Unity crashes. As far as I can tell the crash happens on the
app.join(field.text);
line in the TestHome.cs script (line #86).
I tested it in 2019.3.2f1 and 2020.1.0b5. The result was the same.
The OS is Catalina 10.15.4.
The demo works on Windows.
I followed this tutorial: https://medium.com/#jake_agora.io/mac-run-video-chat-within-your-unity-application-e001091db62f but used x86_64 dlls instead of x86
Does anyone know what this is about? Or where should I begin to look?
Another tutorial, this one from Agora:
https://www.agora.io/en/blog/run-video-chat-within-your-unity-application-mac
It can be caused by missing the Camera and Microphone usage in the Unity Editor project setting. Please let us know if that's the case. (I saw you are also on the Slack channel, let's continue the conversation there.).
For the people who didn't know, Agora Developer Community - Unity Chat channel is here :)
As herve nau pointed out the problem was that the Unity did not had the permission to use camera or microphone. And the solution should work. Alternatively, here is another way to add the permission as described by launzone:
1) Disable SIP: Go into recovery mode (hold CMD+R when you
restart your Mac) Don't be afraid, we are not doing anything crazy.
2) After that open Terminal (it should be accessible from one of the
Menus at the Top) Type in "csrutil disable" and hit enter. Then reboot
your Mac normally.
3) Open Terminal and type in: "sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\
Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db" and hit enter
4) For microphone access, type in: "INSERT INTO access
VALUES('kTCCServiceMicrophone','com.unity3d.unityhub',0,1,1,NULL,NULL,NULL,'UNUSED',NULL,0,1541440109);"
and hit enter
For camera, type in: "INSERT INTO access
VALUES('kTCCServiceCamera','com.unity3d.unityhub',0,1,1,NULL,NULL,NULL,'UNUSED',NULL,0,1541440109);"
and hit enter
6) check in your SystemPreferences/Security&Privacy > unity hub should
now show up in both mic and cam
7) reboot in recovery mode again (CMD+R), open terminal again, type
in: "csrutil enable" and hit enter, to enable SIP again
8) reboot normally and enjoy!
Here is the full thread. I hope it helps someone :)
check if not related to the webcam registration issue on macOs with the Unity Hub running. Fix for the camera, not sure if related to your problem: Remove the Unity Hub app, then open the project directly from Unity App. May also be useful to relocate the Unity app in another folder to force the webcam usage security registration.
Made the test here, Unity 2019.3.11.f1, using the demo app, with Hub active -> crash on press of Join Button, did the Hub removal described above, rerun the same demo and no more crash at this level. Running on Catalina 10.15.2.

Notifications not working on Windows 10 - Electron JS

I was learning Electron and made a basic electron app and packaged it for windows. The app was not showing notifications so I followed the instructions here
On Windows 10, a shortcut to your app with an Application User Model ID must be installed to the Start Menu. This can be overkill during development, so adding node_modules\electron\dist\electron.exe to your Start Menu also does the trick. Navigate to the file in Explorer, right-click and 'Pin to Start Menu'. You will then need to add the line app.setAppUserModelId(process.execPath) to your main process to see notifications.
I did as suggested here and the notifications started working. They were still working after packaging the app. So I wanted to check whether after a user uses an installer to install this app, the notifications would still work.
I don't have any experience with packaging software, and I used InstallForge to make an installer. Turns out, after installing the app using the installer, the app still works but notifications don't, even after pinning the exe to start.
I tried copying the build folder (direct build, not the installer one) to another location and trying the same thing and it still works. This also works if I copy the installation folder to another location. But it does not work from inside Program Files(x86)\myapp\appname\build\myapp.exe so I am assuming this must be something about permissions, but I do not understand exactly what is happening. I have't checked the app yet on Linux so I don't know if I would face similar problems there as well.
Any pointers would be great, Thank you.

Windows 8.1 app not listed in Windows 10 store?

I have a Windows store app (made for Windows 8.1). After upgrading to Windows 10, I was able to install my app without problems.
I was always able to find my app through the category and the top charts. But now, I cannot find it at all. Only when I search for a keyword related to the app, it shows up as expected.
Is that normal? What could be the reason?
I have contacted Microsoft regarding this matter and received a reply.
It appears that Microsoft has changed the chart listing algorithm in Windows 10, kicking all apps out (from Windows 8/8.1) that are not cross-platform pc-mobile. You can still find the applications by the search, but they are not visible in any charts anymore.

Not able to debug phonegap app running on windows 8 mobile

I have a phonegap application that has some layout problems. I can run the app in browser for the most part, and this usually get me over the line. But with a new design I need to debug the application layout on windows phone 8.
I'm currently looking at weinre but its not showing anything on the desktop when browsing the local server, I have added the link to my application I have cleaned up everything I can think of. Still blank. Any good tuts around the ones I have read just copy and paste the original docs or are not on my same error.
There's a public weinre server available here:
https://the-weinre.herokuapp.com/
You may have better luck with that than with your local server. There's a demo available on that page, give that a try and see if it works on your windows 8 mobile device.

App approved, but crashes

I have made a Windows Phone app (for WP7.1) that uses BackgroundAudio for streaming, nothing too complicated. It was approved and made available for download in the store. However it no longer works, i.e. the app worked in debug+release when run from VS2012, and I assume the .xap I uploaded worked since microsoft approved it (they rejected it once and I was able to reproduce and fix the bugs they reported).
When downloaded the app simply bails on load on WP8 (lumia 820) i.e. flips back to the tiles immediately.
On WP7 (lumia 800) but the playbutton ignores input, however it downloads and displays the playlist, so some kind of functionality+network connection works.
I have tried the basics: installing using the application-deployment tool (app working), running the "Store Test Kit" which reports some slowdowns in the UI animations, but nothing serious (I hope).
Any ideas how to reproduce ".xap approved and downloaded from store but not working" or getting debug info from the phone without VS? Or any other things i can try out?
Every time your app crashes it will be logged and reported on your Windows Phone Dev Center Account. Just go in there and export the details to excel. Get the stack trace and put it in here. Maybe we can help.
The very first thing i can tell you is the opening page has some exceptions and that too it doesn't go well with some phones. Seriously there are concerns when a wp7 app is ported on wp8 device and vice-verse. To the extent of my knowledge there might be some binding issues. make sure you got the binding class to be public. And just as #AMR mentioned go the dev center and export the stacktrace. Try resolving them. Moreover if an app get certifies, it doesn't mean it is completely error free. The tests are limited to very coomon errors only.
