When running my UWP Xbox one app with the debugger attached, if I try to take a snapshot it begins counting memory objects and then the app closes and the debugger disconnects. I tried using Visual Studio 2017, as well as Visual Studio 2019 and I also tried repairing my Visual Studio installations. Both versions exhibit the same behavior.

Any really goods reasons and/or things to be aware of why one should use Xamarin Studio over Visual Studio for Xamarin projects (or vice-versa)?
It's been a while since the support for XS on Windows was dropped and the same will eventually happen to XS for Mac. Visual Studio will become the only IDE for both Mac and Windows to develop Xamarin Apps.
For me this is the best reason to start using Visual Studio.
I have been facing a problem of freezing Visual Studio 2015 frequently during building a Xamarin Android project and each time I have to kill Visual Studio process and start the building process again then it will work. I'm facing this issue with two machines both of them are Windows 10 Pro .
I'm using:
Visual Studio 2015 Community update 3.
Xamarin 4.2.0
Xamarin.Android 7.0.1.6
I have the same problem and can't find the source of why visual studio hangs while developing Xamarin android project.
Specs:
Visual Studio Professional 2015 with latest update
Windows 10 64-bit
Dev Express Included
ReSharper Installed
Visual Studio 2013 also installed on machine
16 GB Ram
Intel i7 6700 CPU 3.40 GHx
Git for source control
jdk1.7.0_55
Xamarin latest version
The designer also hangs crazy time
In event viewer I can see that vs studio hangs
The program devenv.exe version 14.0.25420.1 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel
I tried the following attempts and did not helped me:
1.Reinstall (windows + visual studio).
2.Reinstall vs with Xamarin.
3.Update to latest version of Xamarin and vs
4.I also deleted the C:\Users\ ...\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0 directory and i just
lost my settings and some configuration with no effect. Also VS extensions have been removed
5.Deleted my anti virus did not helped
6.No firewall anymore disabled it
7.Disabled windows defender
8.Removed Resharper
The only solution i have is :
Kill vs and restart... but this in annoying since to many times it hangs
Before you go re-installing everything...
I've also experienced Visual Studio (2015 Update 3) hanging while starting a debug session into my Xamarin Android project.
It appears that Visual Studio is having some timing issue between the deployment and connecting to the debugger. What is working for me...
1) Open Task Manager and Kill Visual Studio (because it's hung, and this is the only way I know how to get it out of this state), then...
2) Keeping the Android Hyper-V instance running from my last debug attempt, re-open my project and start a new debug session.
Perhaps Visual Studio is failing to connect to the ADB (Android Debug Bridge)?
I am new to Visual Studio IDE and struggling with a simple problem of clearing app data from the cache when I build a new instance of the app in the debugger and run it. Most emulators like those in android studio and eclipse have a simple way of rebuilding the app from scratch in the emulator so that all previous data gets wiped, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this in Visual Studio 2015.
Though still unable to find a way from within Visual Studio to clear the app cache, the app gets installed on the windows machine itself when running from Visual Studio and then remains resident on the computer, thus one can uninstall it from windows itself and this clears the app data so that the next time it is run from Visual Studio, it is a fresh install.
You can find the menu that allows you to wipe data (like the one you have when using Android Studio instead of visual studio) by clicking on "Open Android Emulator Manager" (you might have to add this as a menu button ), and the selection the virtual device to launch, press "Start" and the dialog box with the option to "Wipe data" appears
I'm developing WinRT metro app using Visual Studio 2013 premium version on Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit machine. After getting windows automatic update, I am facing following error while debugging my app in Visual studio.
Although, it starts the simulator and deployed my solution. But now, I am not able to debug my app using simulator.
Don't know the root cause but following solution works for me
Close Visual Studio
Delete Temporary ASP.Net files
Delete VisualStudio Solution.suo file
Open Visual Studio and run the solution
I make a window mobile application using ms visual studio 2005 professional.
Could I run this application in emulator without installing Visual
Studio?
If I run this in visual studio 2008 or 2010, is there any
difference?
You can download the Microsoft Device Emulator 3.0 -- Standalone Release here. In fact, it is the same emulator that MS starts from within Visual Studio and attaches a debugger to the emulator, so there should not be any different behavior.
