show disk space not enough
I’m using macOS Mojave 10.14.5
I have 11.69GB free disk space
when I click the install it's always show alert message "We could not complete your update, there is not enough disk space available to install the product".
How to fix the problem ? please help
For the Latest Version of XCode 12 you need to have a minimum of 40 GB of free space before updating or downloading Xcode
If you have other issues with memory you can try #vedRanuiar Answer to get some free space.
I have more free space than you and couldn't update my already installed Xcode 11.1 to 11.2.
What I did was to manually download the file. You search for the version you want by going here: https://developer.apple.com/download/more/
Or here's the direct link to the Xcode 11.2 download file you're looking for:
https://download.developer.apple.com/Developer_Tools/Xcode_11.2/Xcode_11.2.xip
It needs almost 18GB when installed, so before installation make sure you have at least 20GB of free space
I have encountered the same problem and this is how I solved it:
I suggest you have an external hard drive. Then download a desired version of the xcode to this page.download
If a XIP file is located on your desktop: open the “Terminal” application found in /Applications/Utilities/ and run the following command:
xip -x ~/Desktop/Xcode_8.2.1.xip
Then wait until it has finished installing
i have found my problem it's technical issues.
Finally able to getting Xcode 11.2 installed after updating the Mojave 10.14.5 to macOS Catalina 10.15.1.
Catalina 10.15.1 requirements
MacBook introduced in 2015 or later
MacBook Air introduced in 2012 or later
MacBook Pro introduced in 2012 or later
Mac mini introduced in 2012 or later
iMac introduced in 2012 or later
iMac Pro (all models)
Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later
Just clean both directories and reclaim 16-30 GB of Hard Drive Space From Xcode -
~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ - It is safe to delete directories here.
~/Library/Developer/Xcode/iOS DeviceSupport/ - A folder for each combination of iOS devices you have plugged in.

At the moment, I would like to code something for ios just for fun and to learn new things. I have a VM Workstation 15 Pro, but I only have a macOS 10.13 system for use, so if I run it von my Workstation and try to install Xcode he won't let me, because then the only message I get is:
"can only be installed on 10.13.6 version"
How and where can I get this version (without the help of Apple ...) or is there a way to avoid all this?
Update the macOS version in your VM from 10.13 to 10.13.6. Open the Mac App Store in your 10.13 VM and check for updates. From there you should be able to update your VM to 10.13.6, allowing you to install Xcode.
Another alternative is to install an older version of Xcode from Apple's developer site.
In order to download older versions of XCode you have to have an apple account and then sign the developer TOS to access old versions of software in the downloads -> more section of the developer site at apple.com. You can determine which version of XCode will be compatible with your version of mac OS by referring to the column "min macOS to run" in the tables on the wikipedia page for XCode
If you want to download it without Apple you will probably have to find an alternate source to download XCode (which I'm guessing breaks their TOS)
I am trying to use the Xamarin iOS simulator but it fails on launch with a "The device {guid} was not found".
I have my environment settings like...
and when I run I see...
then...
researching the error, the recommendation is to explicitly set the XCode path which I have done, but I get the same error. Also, notice I am connected to our build Mac.
I have a coworker connected to the same Mac with the same computer and VS version I am on, and his iOS simulator works fine. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the simulator and restarted Visual Studio (2017RC).
I appreciate any pointers someone might have!
UPDATE
I reinstalled my Windows 10 OS thinking I had a corrupt install. Unfortunately on a clean machine with 2017RC, the simulator still fails in the same way as I described above.
In my case: UnCheck Remote Simulator to Windows
I am facing the same issue from last two days and solved this as well by removing the latest version of XCode 12.5.
Download the previous version of code i.e 12.4 from apple site and install
Move the downloaded xcode file in application and check on windows
It works fine
Latest version of XCode 12.5 is not stable
I confirm the issue is currently (May 2021) caused by Xcode 12.5 upgrade.
After I downgraded back to Xcode 12.4, the simulators started to work again with no problem.
I tried to upgrade Visual Studio for Windows to latest version 16.9.4, did not help. I launched Visual Studio Installer to reinstall Xamarin, did not help either.
Only when I removed Xcode 12.5 (using this shell script https://onexlab-io.medium.com/uninstall-xcode-from-macos-eca1b69dc836) and installed version 12.4 (from XIP archive from here How to download Xcode DMG or XIP file?) it started to work.
You may need to uncheck "Remote Simulator to Windows." I just fixed this issue for myself by doing so. However, I was trying to launch on the iOS simulator on my Mac side (running Windows vm via Parallels). It seems you might be trying to launch the simulator in windows.
If you need a quick solution, downgrade the version of VS and Xcode, for me this works:
VS 2019 - 16.9.3
Xcode - 12.4
Xamarin.iOS - 14.14.2.5
And for physical devices make sure Hot Restart is not enabled in Tools > Options > Xamarin > iOS settings
Just had the same problem after upgrading mac to Big Sur and Xcode 12.5 yesterday. Reboots and deleting obj/bin/.vs folders made no difference. The fix was to explicitly type the Xcode path into Xamarin options iOS settings - even though it was the default - untick Remote Simulator to Windows then pair/connect to mac from that options dialog. After closing the dialog and reopening it Remote Simulator was checked again. I unchecked it, closed the dialog and reopened it to check again - it was closed this time. All works fine now.
I also ran mac VS and let it update in the midst of all this.
I have the same issue since yesterday, to resolve that I uninstall the "Xamarin iOS simulator" and now it works...
it may be a solution for your issue!
Did you resolved the issue already?
I bumped onto the same issue today. I tried opening Xcode on Mac and it says it need to install additional tools. I let it install and try open/quit Visual Studio for Mac, Xcode, Simulator again (not sure if it is related)
Now to remote simulator works fine again.
I had the same issue and i resolved it by realizing that my PC with VS was on a different network than my Mac with Xcode. Once i put both machines on the same network the issue went away. Hope it helps.
Today, on my MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.3, I launched the App Store application and downloaded XCode 7. After the download has ended, I cannot find any update file on my disk. App Store says XCode 7 is installed, but indeed it's not. The XCode application on my disk is still the old version 6.4 and there is no trace of the XCode 7, nor an installer on my disk. I launched XCode 6.4 hopefully some upgrading should have been launched afterwards, but nothing happened. The About window confirms: it's the version 6.4 (6E35b). I turned off the machine and rebooted. Nothing changed. So I downloaded XCode 7 once again. Same trouble. Any idea? Solution?
If you don't find another way to install XCode 7 try to install the XCode 7.1 beta. Works fine for me: https://developer.apple.com/xcode/download/
At the Apple Developer Forum I have seen that other developers had the same trouble. Anyway, after downloading XCode 7 for the 3rd time, it worked. Thanks.
I installed the latest version of Hardware IO Tools for Xcode (Oct 2013) on OS X 10.8.5. I installed the "Network Link Conditioner preference pane". I get the following error every time I try to run this toolCould not load Network Link Conditioner preference pane`
I tried to re-install the package but got the same error. Who knows how to fix the problem?
My Solution:
I've installed OS X Mavericks and that fixed the problem.
As said, use Hardware IO Tool for Xcode - Late July 2012.
Installation steps to be sure that it works:
Remove any currently installed Network Link Conditioner preference panes (right-click it in the System Preferences window for the option to delete).
Verify that there is no file called Network Link Conditioner.prefPane in either /Library/PreferencePanes/ or ~/Library/PreferencePanes/; if they're there, remove them by hand.
Empty your trash
Restart your Mac
Then, re-install from the old version mentioned above (from late July 2012).
Having to empty your trash and restart your Mac gives the whole process a nice touch of nostalgia for ex-Windows users, but it really made the difference for me.
I had same issue. I downloaded the Hardware IO Tool for Xcode - Late July 2012. It installed without any problem on OS X 10.8.5.
I've installed OS X Mavericks and that fixed the problem
try to download an older version of Additional Tools for Xcode
for example:
Xcode 13 -> download Additional Tools for Xcode 12.5
this work for me
I had xcode 3.2.something. and iwth ios sdks 3.0-3.1-....4.1 and 2 iphone simulator sdks.
Now i installed xcode 4.0 with ios sdk 4.3 something like that.
Now all my previous applications cannot be launched nor on device nor on simulator because there's not a single old sdk available.
so next i reinserted the original cds containing macosx and xcode and reinstalled the first xcode i used, but now there's not one ios sdk available at all.
i've been surfing the net for hours now, andi have a couple of questions:
1)have i had to uninstall the xcode 3.2.x before installing xcode 4?
2)how to uninstall applications on mac??? just to make sure that the answer i've found is the correct one.
3)how can erase the traces of all previous xcodes and their sdks in order to install the original one, now that i learned how to install different xcode versions side by side.
4) now what do you think i should to recover? do i have to back up everything and reinstall mac from the beginning?
thank you
So, your questions:
1. Have I got to uninstall XCode 3.2 before installing XCode 4? - No, you don't, but the XCode installer will overwrite your old copy by default. When installing the newer version of XCode and the iOS SDK you must specify a different install directory (eg, create a new folder in the root of your drive called 'Developer 4' for XCode 4.
2. How can I uninstall XCode? - Normally on a mac you would just drag your application to the trash, but it's a little more complicated with XCode. Refer to the instructions at this link: http://pushkararora.com/how-to/how-to-uninstall-xcode-completely/
3. How can I erase all traces of all previous XCodes? - see the answer above for question 2 :)
You can obtain old versions of the SDK from various unofficial online sources if you need to roll back to iOS 3 SDKs. However, it may not be all that much work to move your apps over to the 4.x SDKs.
ok it turned out that at the beginning i was using xcode 3.2.4 with ios sdk 4.1
The xcode that comes with mac osx only targets mac sdk. No iphone support
So i got xcode 3.2.4 setup from a backup (you can find it online) and installed and this should work
And now i have 3.2.5 using sdk 4.2 and targetting all till 3.0
and also xcode 4.0.2
