I am getting error:
pip install biopython
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
You are probably trying to install biopython within the Python REPL. See my screenshot below if that looks like what you are getting. Type quit() to exit the Python REPL and type pip install biopython on the commandline:
Did you go to the pip folder? On Windows, by default python and pip are not on the PATH.
Please go to the windows section of the Biopython installation tutorial.
It says you should be able to install if you run it from the pip folder.

When I write pip install biopython on Bash, I get the error messages "error: subprocess-exited-with-error" and further down "error: legacy-install-failure" in the output. I can confirm using python --version and pip --version that both exist (version 2.7 and 22.1.4), and I can pip install other packages like matplotlib, so I know the problem is not with pip install itself. The output also tells me there is something likely wrong with the biopython package itself. How can this be fixed so I can pip install biopython?
Use conda instead, for example:
conda create --name biopython biopython
HI i'm trying to import pymc3 after pip installing it from the command line within the library where Python.exe sits in. (i.e. >>python -m pip install pymc3). after checking the Lib/Site-Packages library, there's no pymc3, but there is a theanos package installed though. i've looked everywhere for the pymc3 package but can't find it. i've tried installing pymc4 and same thing happens. any idea why?
You should be able to run pip straight for command line.
IE: the command is "pip install pymc3"
Then you would need to import it.
Your issue might also be that you recently installed python and have pip3 installed and not pip. You can check if pip vs pip3 is installed with pip --version and pip3 --version.
Whichever one of those responds with some form of pip XX.X.X from /.... would be the command you need to run.
If you do have pip3 then the command to run from the command line would be "pip3 install pymc3"
Are you able to do
import pymc3
in a Python script? If so, you can find out where it's installed with
print(pymc3.__file__)
so I just uninstalled a wrong version of python 3.8 and downloaded python 3.7.4
Now I'm trying to install packages using the command pip install X and get the following error.
C:\Users\User>pip install cv2
Fatal error in launcher: Unable to create process using '"c:\users\user\appdata\local\programs\python\python38-32\python.exe" "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38-32\Scripts\pip.exe" install cv2': The system cannot find the file specified.
clearly it is still trying to use the old version of python 3.8 even though I have uninstalled it and reinstalled pip several times.
Any idea on why its trying to look for this old path? and how can I change the default path it is using?
(btw this is just a matter of convenience because as of the moment if I use the command python -m pip install X it does seem to work)
try command python -m pip install --upgrade pip
Delete and clear environment config and install again...
Edit:
According to the pip website (https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/installing), I should already have pip installed with my Python version 2.9.7, but I assumed that I don't because of the error message.
I then attempted to install pip by downloading get-pip.py. It was successful but I got the messages:
Found existing installation: pip 1.3.1
Uninstalling pip-1.3.1:
Successfully uninstalled pip-1.3.1
Successfully installed pip-8.1.1 wheel-0.29.0
So it seems I did have a version of pip, so I'm not sure why I was getting the error message described in my original post.
But when I tried to then pip install jupyter, I just get:
-bash: pip: command not found
again. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?
I need to install iPython Notebook. I already have Python (version 2.7.9) installed on my Macbook, running OS X (version 10.7.5).
After some initial investigation, I saw somebody say that I could just run:
pip install "ipython[notebook]"
When I did this however, I got:
-bash: pip: command not found
So do I have to install pip first? And then use pip to install the Notebook? I'm out of my depth and a little confused!
Okay so my problem was that pip was installed, but in a location that was not included in my $PATH variable.
One of the answers here is relevant.
I have installed pip but when i try to install requests , i get the following error as in the image
Pip should be run from the command line. It looks like you're running it from the Python interpreter.
C:\Users\ishan.nitj>pip install requests
If you're unable to call pip from the command line, add the following to your PATH.
C:\Python32\scripts
Since pip is used to install modules, it is not a Python command and thus shouldn't be run from the interpreter.
