Make install fails macOS Catalina - macos

I am trying to install OpenCV to use in C++ on my macOS Catalina using the tutorial here: https://www.learnopencv.com/install-opencv-4-on-macos/ . However, near the end when I have to run make install
I get an error saying
Install the project...
-- Install configuration: "RELEASE"
CMake Error at cmake_install.cmake:36 (file):
file cannot create directory: /installation/OpenCV-/share/licenses/opencv4.
Maybe need administrative privileges.
make: *** [install] Error 1
I tried running as root with:
sudo make install
However I get the same error.
I also tried changing the CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX to another folder I created which I was the owner of, however this did not work either.
What could I do to make the installation successful?
Thank you.

ROOT installation on MacOs

ROOT is required as a pre-requisite for some software that I am trying to install. I'm on a MacOs system and I have tried to install using brew install root. Do I need to do anything else? How can I check that root was successfully installed?
When I tried to install said software, apparently files in the root directory cannot be found, e.g. error
/usr/local/Cellar/root/6.22.06_1/etc/root/cling/lib/clang/5.0.0/include/assert.h:8:15: fatal error: 'assert.h' file not found
I have checked this manually and the file is there so I don't understand why it is not found. I also tried the following line in my .zshrc file
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/Cellar/root/6.22.06_1/etc/root/cling/lib/clang/5.0.0/include/assert.h
and
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin/thisroot.sh
Any ideas of what may be going wrong? Thanks in advance

Missing seperator. Stop error while installing makefile

I am trying to install latest version of git on VDS server using the tutorial on this website . According to the tutorial makefile must be installed. But when I run sudo make install the error ":1 *** missing seperator. Stop." is popping up.
My make file:
make configure
./configure --prefix=/usr/local

Unable to `make` on CygWin

I am trying to do a configure-make-make install using Cygwin on my Windows 7 32 bit machine. I have checked, and I have the make package installed (version 4.1-1).
I am able to configure using ./configure --prefix=/home/user/myfolder. Next when I run the make command, I get the following: -bash: make: command not found. I am unable to figure out if this is due to the ./configure not executing properly, or it has something to do with my make package. How do I find out which it is? Does ./configure create an output file at the location prefix=/home/user/myfolder? If so, what is the extension of this file (.in? .am?)? Is there a way to manually point the make command to a file?

gdk_display_get_name: assertion 'GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed trying to run pidgin

I compiled and installed pidgin on my MacOSx Mavericks, everything seem to went fine on make install but when I try to start pidgin from terminal
I get following error:
$ pidgin
(Pidgin:68719): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_get_name: assertion 'GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
Pidgin 2.10.11
** (Pidgin:68719): WARNING **: cannot open display: unset
can anyone help getting rid of this message ?
So to install Pidgin first I ran ./configure with following arguments. --disable-screensaver --disable-sm --disable-gtkspell --disable-gstreamer --disable-vv --disable-meanwhile --disable-avahi --disable-dbus --disable-nss --disable-gnutls then I ran make to build a compile for my osx mavericks. then make install . In doing all the proces I discovered I need boost python binding, for which I installed boost via macports using sudo port install libboost . But when I tried to run Pidgin I got the above error mentioned in the post, so I discovered Pidgin cannot find the display required. For which I had to install XQuartz restarting installing XQuartz took a while and I relogged in and then Pidgin worked. On my OSx now the value of DISPLAY environment variable points to /tmp/launch-DXOhcE/org.macosforge.xquartz:0

aclocal version problem on Mac OSX Snow Leopard

I am trying to compile an open source program on Mac OSX and getting stuck trying to get the build configured. I have autoconf version 2.63 installed but trying to do reconfigure I get this error "aclocal.m4:14: error: this file was generated for autoconf 2.61." and "you should regenerate the build system entirely".
I researched this as best I could and most seemed to imply automake should be able to regenerate itself using the autoreconf command. Autoreconf fails as well with the exact same message.
Things I've tried: remaking and reinstalling the autoconf package, remaking and reinstalling the m4 package, running the above commands as root instead of as a user.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
- Mike
Look for script like autogen.sh, they usually contain the right order of tools to run.
In this case the problem seems to be aclocal
