I want to deploy my existing Laravel application in the Digital Ocean and this is my first time to go live. I'm choosing droplets shared CPU $5/month my questions are.
Is $5/month is exactly the amount that I will pay for the monthly bill?. If my application is online/accessible forever do I still get to pay $5/month?.
As stated above that I'm using the Laravel framework, can I ssh in the server and install dependencies without a problem?, also can I change the PHP version in the server?.
Please help me this is my first time and I have no idea what to choose if shared or dedicated CPU'S.
Note: My Laravel application is only for my personal use.

Yes, that is the price that you will pay each month unless you turn on features like automatic backup and etc. which add up a couple of extra $.
You can, however, get billed more if you go over the droplets outbound data transfer. Check it here. But since you said it's only for your personal use, no worries there.
Yes, you can ssh into your server and install whatever you need on it (composer, database, PHP libs).
For every package, you are still billed hourly up to the end of the month which roughly equates to the price on that screenshot. That means that you can play around with your droplet, see how it works, and if you change your mind, you can always delete it, and only be billed for the number of hours that you used it.

We started to play with Trello to manage our manufacturing process. Great tool and we want to keep using it. But we are missing one functionality .
We want every agent to log monthly capacity that will be reduced every day and to have some report that will show how much load we already assigned to this individual. (To be able to plan how much work we can take more and estimate when we can deliver new coming order)
Is it possible to achieve somehow in Trello? We can install additional plugins if required. Or we should look at different options?

I just wanna know if Elasticsearch is free. I know it is open source but I checked the website and I didn't find anything about pricing, though I did found subscription with no pricing. So, is it free for long-term use?
Just to let you know, I'm working with the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) and socket IO.
If Elasticsearch is free, then is it going to work and integrate with my stack smoothly?

It's super-important to remember that spinning up VMs on the cloud is NOT free. In fact, you might spend more money on cloud VMs than using elastic.co's managed services. Elasticsearch is a memory hog and I found that very quickly, and with minor load, I had to dedicate 4GBs of RAM just for the Java heap space. Under heavy load, you'd have to dedicate more. All of that costs money.
As far as integrating with your mainly-javascript stack, it shouldn't be a problem. This library is very useful: https://www.npmjs.com/package/elasticsearch
Elasticsearch is free of cost and open source. They charge for services like support, consultancy etc. and for plugins like kibana.

When I start kibana, I got the following exception:
LicenseExpiredException[license expired for feature [shield]]
I checked the document and only found that:
The first time you start up the node, a 30 days trial license will
automatically be created which will enable Shield to be fully
operational. Within these 30 days, you will be able to replace the
trial license with another one that will be provided to you up on
purchase.
Isn't shield a free software? Where Could I purchase the license? I can't find it in the document.
I contacted ElasticSearch to know how I could get a license for a personal use. I just have a single server, and want a simple security realm (3 users : admin, logstash, kibana).
Well, the good point is that they called me back one hour after the form submission.
But, the bad point is that they have no plan for personal usages, they just have (for now) a single bundle with everything included:
Professional support (ticket, phone)
License for every software (Marvel, Shield, Watcher)
Tons of cool features
Unfortunately, it fits perfectly for professional usage, because plans are about 1600 $/year/cluster.
I told the support that having no plan for developer was a bad thing, but the only thing she said is "sorry".
So I'm heading toward SearchGuard because it is free.

Currently I have a dedicated server with WHM and Joomla running.
I want to transfer it to new server. This new server has high speed bandwidth.
I only have remote access to the new server which has Win 2008 R2 installed and it shows it was installed on a VM.
I need to configure this server to run a domain name with Joomla which will be access by 10k visitors/month.
I have knowledge on WHM and CPanel only. How I can started with any ready made packages?
The reason my management changed the server is for better performance as current dedicated server is slower.
However, I guess the new server is installed on a VM..
Please guide.
The first thing you need to do is not move your Joomla site to a Windows server. The configuration of the server is critical to the performance of Joomla and you will have nagging issues until the end of time trying to run Joomla on Windows. It can be done, but it's a massive headache and there is absolutely no advantage to doing so. There are dozens of reputable hosting companies that have servers configured specifically to run Joomla optimally. Take a look at Rochen (I have over 50 sites on Rochen) or CloudAccess, both have official relationships with the Joomla project and both have very reasonable pricing.
Also, 10k visitors per month does not require a dedicated server unless all of those users are on simultaneously running SQL query heavy apps. You could easily run a site that size on a managed virtual server and have no performance issues at all. I've got sites with hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors running on a single MVS with no issues at all.

Are there any services that allow you to place advertising in Windows software? I want to give away my software for free but still need to eat!
Check out OpenCandy, they have a really nice concept IMHO:
only a single, opt-in ad - in the installer (so your application remains ad-less). There is an interesting post about them # DonationCoder.
It is, of course, trivial to put a fixed collection of adverts into your code. The trouble comes if you want to sell eyeballs and have the ads change. Then the code has to go talk over the network to get new adds.
Many people would have a name for this: adware. If people find you making network connections behind their back, as it were, they are likely to break out some more negative terms.
However, if you are completely open and honest about it when you offer the code for download, then your conscience might be clear.
Practically, you need to have code that makes a network connection to some site of yours, pulls the ad content, and displays it in some sort of annoying popup.
Check with individual affiliate programs to see if they allow links in applications.
You can also try the Freemium model: Turn on some extra features if they pay for your program.
Or link to your website for support information, instructions, etc., and place ads there.
Or offer an e-mail newsletter with updates, news, etc. Advertising in these is easier.
