CRM 365 - Hide a sitemap Area - dynamics-crm

Is any clean way to hide an area from the sitemap, other than reviewing many role privileges one by one and remove privilege completely. I would be ok with amount of work just that there is no one-to-one correlation between the privilege and the menu item and more important, is the fact some of the privileges has many ramifications and I don't want to affect existing functionality. It would be hard to track bugs in this case.

This has to start with the logical grouping of necessary working entities (SubArea) under right Group, and ideally hence the main Area.
Let's say for example - Sales area should have Managers and Reps as Groups then classify the sub-areas for them individually for their needed entities. Then the navigation can be regulated with the help of identifying privileges specific for each persona and the navigation items can be controlled which hide the Group from others. Read more
Or if it is tough to identify such dedicated persona privilege, then create a dummy entity just for sitemap regulation without breaking any existing implementation.
In UCI app world, you can spin a new App for each persona, so silo app with own sitemap and logical groups the way you want.

In QuickBase, is there a way to make one field have unique user access?

I'm the QuickBase Admin for my QuickBase app. In the app, there's a dashboard report that's used by individuals with viewer access; that way, they can see their students' data, but can't edit the app, tables, structures, etc.
My app's users want to be able to edit one field with notes on that row's data (each row is a student's data, so they'd want to use that field to add notes on that individual), but viewers don't have editing/data entry access tn any column. Is there a way for users to have editing/data entry access to one field, but not the others?
I know with Tableau and other BI software, this isn't possible, but I wanted to ask since my users asked.
Thank you for reading.
Sure you can.
Actually there are more ways to implement this needs.
My opinion better if you create a new table and make a relationship between the student data and a (new) Notes table and you will be able to setup edit rights eg by record owner.
An other way, you can allow the edit right for your users and you can make a restriction on field level. In this case you have to go through on each field and at the Advanced section you will find Permission - Restrict access by role.
Hopefully you do not have a lot of fields :)

Dynamics CRM Entity to be owned by person or company

I have the below requirement -
We have an entity named Garden. A garden is owned by a person or company, and can also be leased by one or more people or companies. Each garden has a unique number.
Ideally, we would want to be able to see a single grid of all the people that own and/or lease the garden, regardless of whether they are a person or a company.
Questions -
1) Which entity to choose for person -> User or Contact
2) Which entity to choose for company?
3) How to design record ownership or leasing of garden?
This is a broad question, I’ll try my best.
Fact: We don’t have an option today to create a custom polymorphic entity - to capture/store multiple types of entities. There are some available OOB entities - Customer to store Account/Contact, Owner to store User/Team, Activity Regarding to store any Activity enabled entities.
If you look at Bookable Resource entity, even MS store the type like User or Equipment & respective lookup records separately. This is what you need exactly. Read more
1) Which entity to choose for person -> User or Contact
2) Which entity to choose for company?
User (owner) in case you need security around the ownership of the records. Then company has to be the Teams, because you mentioned Garden maybe owned by Person or Company. How many records you’re going to manage and are they going to get login in CRM?
You may have to look at PowerApps (Dynamics) portals which gives B2B, B2C options to control records ownership by Accounts/Contacts.
3) How to design record ownership or leasing of garden?
Partially answered in the above points. For leasing, you can have multiple subgrid (1:N) relationship. If required, you may need a custom component or web resource to pull the multiple type of owned/leasing records by UNION the results & render as a grid.

permission of associated subgrid in crm

I have a (CRM) grid that has associated view (a) I need to add another associated view (b) to the same grid and to give different view permission (some users will see 'a' and some will see 'b') can I control these permissions on my associated grids
Based on your requirement, it looks like you don’t need two views & switch hit.
User A should have a security role A which will filter the data what he can see & cant see.
In security role A modify the Read privilege to BU level - half amber (now it may be full green - Org level)
The same security role A to User B (if they are from different BU) will work as it is. Basically role A has to be there in all BUs individually.

CRM 2013 online Subgrid implementation best practice

I'm new to CRM, and am having difficulties implementing a subgrid onto an account form. I am not a programmer.
I will not bore you with the methods that I have tried to so far; that could take a while. Suffice it to say, I am having no luck.
i have created and imported two sets of records from my SQL database. One set was imported into the standard Accounts entity and the other was imported into a custom entity; let's just call that it Problems.
The relationship between Accounts to Problems is one-to-many. Each Account has a "problemID" and each related Problem has a "problemID" as well.
I need to be able to place a subgrid containing all related Problems onto the Accounts forms. I need to be able to see the old ones and create new ones.
How would YOU handle this?
Many thanks!
For a 1:N relationship between Accounts and Problems you only need a lookup to the Account Entity on the Problem entity. Then you can:
Edit the Account Form
Insert a Sub-grid
Set the sub-grid to look to "Only Related Records" for "Problems"

Best way to implement users location that allows me to see what users live roughly in the same area

A key part of my current project is users having the ability to see what other users live near to them. What is the best way to implement this?
I would just ask for country, state and city but because this will be international I can't have a fixed drop down list of states/administrative regions for each country, so if users spell the name of their state differently this will hinder my ability to detect that users live in the same state.
Say for example we have an the Swiss canton "St. Gallen". Some user will spell that as "Saint Gallen", others as "St Gallen" and so on. Which is obviously problematic.
Could I just ask for the zip code and use that? I've found some zipcode tools online but I'm suspecting they don't work very well. Has anyone used them?
Thanks for your asnwers.
Shouldn't you base your query on geographical data rather than administration one? I mean instead of comparing cities/zip codes just find people within, let's say, 5 km from current user location. And if you let every user to choose his/her location on the map, this will be as simple as choosing it from a series of drop-down lists or entering a ZIP code. Also there is an emerging geolocation HTML feature.
Querying such an information is different story thou. You'll probably gonna have to use GIS capabilities of your database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and others.
