Can xcode be configured to always display the files navigator? - xcode

When launching/running the application the files Navigator panel is overlaid with the Run :
But I need to view the files/directories in the project at the same time - and the breadcrumbs above the editor is insufficient. Is this configuration possible?

This is not really an answer but maybe the best workaround. I discovered that command-1 shows the Navigator and command-2 Shows the Run/Debug. So that is a reasonable quick-switch approach that allows me to be productive.

How to access project structure to add jar files on MacBook?

I'm used to using IntelliJ on Windows. For work purposes I also need to use it on a MacBook and I'm completely lost. First time using MacOS.
I have IntelliJ installed and running. No menu bar! I need to access the Project Structure dialog so I can add the missing jar files for Selenium.
What's Mac equivalent to CTRL+ALT+Shift+S? Also is there a way on Mac to enable the menu bar?
Thanks in advance!
-Mac Noob
There must be a project tab on the left hand side of the window that will show the file tree if you click it. From there, you can drag and drop.
To access the project structure you can go File --> Project Structure or do cmd+; (for me)
As for the menu bar, I think you are talking about the File/Edit/View bar at the top of the screen (very top, right next to the apple logo).

I changed .jar to open with windows explorer, and now i can't change it to anything else

I recently changed the Default application for .jar files to be windows explorer, thinking that it would unzip them. I have since gotten a jar decompiler and would like to make windows explorer not the default application to open jar files ( as it basically crashes my computer). Nothing works, i have tried changing the default application by clicking open with, but the check box is greyed out. I have tried going Start menu -> Default Programs -> Associate a file type, but .jar doesn't even appear in the list. I have been googling for a couple hours now and can not find any response that isn't basically those two steps.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this mess i made ?
Right click on a .jar, go to "Open With" > "Choose default program..." should do the trick. But you already did that, and "Choose default program..." was grayed out.
Edit:
Try FileTypesMan from Nirsoft
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html
Go to .jar and select it, then you can see actions at the bottom and remove or edit them.
I Was able to fix it by messing around in the registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts.jar\UserChoice
needed to be deleted. that let me choose a new default program for.jar files. Thank you for the responses.
Cheers.

Xcode: Tabbed workflow

In Xcode I use a task-based tabbed workflow (a separate tab for editing, UI/Modeling, building, debugging, etc.). I accomplish this using Behaviors (see the Custom section in the attached screen shot). When I create a new Project I use press ⌘+1, ⌘+2, etc. to quickly setup all of my task tabs.
My issue is that when I do this for a newly created Project all of the tabs display the source, storyboards, etc. from my most recently open Project. How often do you think this is useful or the desired behavior? I realize that one of the great things about tabs is that they remember their state and this is helpful. But as far as the source files that are initially displayed, this is a real pain. I do not want to see files from other (generally unrelated) projects.
Now what I just did as an experiment was open Project A and setup all of my tabs and ensured that each tab contained a source file from Project A. Then I quit Xcode and moved Project A a new location on the file system. When I opened Project B and created all of my tabs they were, as desired, empty.
I realize that I'm just going to receive the canonical "File a Radar" here but in the off chance that there is a workaround (NOT moving files) or a preference I could set, I figured I'd at least ask.
Thanks in advance,
CS

Xcode 4.2 Product -> Run Greyed Out

My "Run" button under "Product" is greyed out and after trying a few things from various forums, can't figure out what's gone wrong.
I've tried removing the project.xcworkspace and xcuserdata files and letting xcode generate new ones, but no...
My co-worker uses AppCode from IntelliJ and when he pulls the code, it runs just fine. But if he opens the same files in his Xcode, his "Run" is also greyed out.
"Edit" your current "Scheme":
Make sure you have "Run" checked for that build target:
The scheme need to be fixed (I don't know why xcode changed it)
Here are the required steps:
, ,
Make sure you have the correct target selected.
(Upper-left in Xcode window, near the triangular Run button.)
My co-worker who uses AppCode had edited the configuration file, moved some frameworks around, etc... We noticed that there was a difference between XCode and AppCode in using relative vs. absolute paths in the project.pbxproj file.
Ultimately I just reverted the code to before his changes, so at this stage, I'm not entirely sure which difference in the config file actually caused Xcode to not be able to Run the project.
**EDIT
From the .git logs, it looks like AppCode was adding relative directories with 7 sets of "/../" and before there were only ever instances of 5 "/../" to get back to the root directory.
Rather frustrating that Xcode had no way of dealing with this from inside the IDE.

Xcode 4 shows no files after loading project

I've loaded a project in Xcode 4 after not looking at it for a while. Xcode shows its progress bar and indicates in text that the project is loading, and it appears to finish, but then there are no files shown in the hierarchy or flat views. There is nothing showing in any view (except for one breakpoint in the breakpoints view).
Any ideas? Xcode gives me zero indication that anything is wrong, it shows me nothing.
I just had the same issue. After a few hours scratching my head and trying all kind of things, I finally found a fix: remove the whole package 'project.xcworkspace' inside the XXXXX.xcodeproj package.
More specifically, when you find the 'XXXXX.xcodeproj' file, right-click it, and select 'Show Package Contents'. This will get you inside the package where you will find the 'package.xcworkspace' file. It is best to do this while the Xcode project is closed.
Maybe that will work for you or for others with the same issue in the future...
Some of the project views have the "Recently Changed" filter icon. For me the problem was: i had that enabled in the Project Navigator, so it was only showing the files i recently changed. It looks like this.
I'm using Xcode 6.1 though.
I had a similar issue. After archiving a project the files would disappear from the project navigator.
It turned out that somehow XCode had added the word "main" to the searchbar below the project navigator so that almost all files where invisible. Quite frustrating.
It might be the same case for you..
For those who make it here, I was opening a older version of a similar iOS project after upgrading to the latest XCode (6.2), and was seeing the symptoms labeled in this question (missing files, folders etc.)
My solution: at the bottom left of the screen, unselecting 'Show only files with source-control status" which happened to be set on (it's blue when on). The icon looks like a 4-pt star inside a square.
remove the whole package 'project.xcworkspace' inside the XXXXX.xcodeproj package. may cause to any other error so please ignore and trying finally
You can quit xcode and reload again your project it help you
This happened to me when I tried to do an alt-tab, on a VM running in TeamViewer in Windows - Click the search bar below, enter delete multiple times and the invisible search term cleared up
I had the same issue. Besides the answers above, it could also be that you have already accidentally opened the project in another Xcode window... Close that and reopen everything and it should work.
