GHCI unable to recognize packages installed with Cabal on windows 10 - windows

I am a beginner with Haskell and for an assignment I needed to install System.Random. So I installed the package using Cabal through command line (originally with cabal install random and then with cabal install --lib random), however, when I run GHCI it doesn't recognize that the package is installed. When I run it I get this error:
Could not find module `System.Random'
Use -v to see a list of the files searched for.
|
3 | import System.Random
| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Failed, no modules loaded.
I tried a few things to fix this, however, none of them seem to work. I tried to copy the files from the cabal directory where the package is saved and place them in the same folder as my project but I received this error.
File name does not match module name:
Saw: `Main'
Expected: `Random'
|
1 | #if __GLASGOW_HASKELL__ >= 701
| ^
Failed, no modules loaded.
I then attempted to run ghc with "ghc -iC:\DirectoryToPackage AssignmentThatCallsPackage.hs" and this gave the same error as above. I also attempted this solution given here ghc can't find my cabal installed packages the second answer to make the package global but when I tried to run the line "runhaskell Setup install" it gave me an access denied error. I feel I have tried other solutions, but I can't remember what else I tried at the moment. I have been stuck on this for a while now so any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

./configure doesn't find Qt5Core, QT5GUI, QT5Widgets

I've recently replaced Win10 by Linux Debian 11.2 on my PC (hence I'm a newbee in Linux). Now, not all programs are available as deb-Files.
I tried to compile source code - here a synthesizer ams-2.2.0 - from a tar.gz files (after unzipping into a separate folder) with steps (as written in the INSTALL.TXT to this source, and obviously usual)
./configure
make
make install
I get a bunch of error messages for missing files, when running ./congigure most resolved by installation of missing packages, but at last it fails with error message:
checking for QTCore Qt5Gui Qt5Widgets >= 5.0... no
configure: error: cannot find Qt5 library >= 5.0
(hope to get all written correctly, because I can't copy from the terminal ... Ctrl-Shift-C doesn't seem to work)
I checked the installation in synaptics and found that Qt-Version is 5.12. So what's wrong here?
I'm afraid to have this error message everytime I try to compile different source codes.
You need to install libqtcore and libqtwidgets with development headers, they are in qtbase5-dev package.
sudo apt install build-essential qtbase5-dev qtchooser

Why can't pip find pysvn?

I'm working on a project which was written in Python 2, and I'm upgrading it to Python 3. So far, I've just been finding minor syntax errors which are easily fixable. What I've done is created a new project in Python 3, ensured that it worked, and copies chunks of code from the old project into the new one.
Right now, I'm having trouble with pysvn. Initially, I was getting this error:
ImportError: No module named 'pysvn'
At this point, I tried using pip install pysvn, which didn't work. I got the following:
pip install pysvn
Collecting pysvn
Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement pysvn (from versions:)
No matching distribution found for pysvn
So then after a bit of research, I went to the pysvn download site and tried:
>pip install --index-url http://pysvn.tigris.org/project_downloads.html pysvn, which gave me this error:
Collecting pysvn
The repository located at pysvn.tigris.org is not a trusted or secure host and is being ignored. If this repository is available via HTTPS it is recommended to use HTTPS instead, otherwise you may silence this warning and allow it anyways with '--trusted-host pysvn.tigris.org'.
and also the same error as when I tried >pip install pysvn.
My next step was to manually download the .exe file for the version I needed, and I was able to successfully install pysvn. I have checked the site-packages directory, and pysvn is indeed there, but pip still can't tell me anything about it:
>pip show pysvn
>
When I do this for another installed module, selenium for example, I get the following:
pip show selenium
Metadata-Version: 1.1
Name: selenium
Version: 2.49.2
Summary: Python bindings for Selenium
Home-page: https://github.com/SeleniumHQ/selenium/
Author: UNKNOWN
Author-email: UNKNOWN
License: UNKNOWN
Location: ...\lib\site-packages
Requires:
I was able to verify that the installation of pysvn was successful because my project now runs instead of giving me that ImportError.
So why can pip not give me information for another module in the same directory that was successfully installed?
As it turns out, because I didn't use pip install for pysvn, pip didn't know that pysvn existed. Because it wasn't available from PyPI (the Python Package Index), there was no way that pip could see it (because that's where pip goes first to find packages that it's attempting to install).
From the pip user guide:
pip supports installing from PyPI, version control, local projects, and directly from distribution files.
Since I had eventually downloaded pysvn from its own download site (which was not any of the above 4 options) and ran the .exe manually, pip simply doesn't know about it even though it's in the same directory as other packages installed by pip.
I suppose I could've also retrieved the distribution files and used pip with those, but my workaround did the trick.
My way on linux:
Get sources from here
tar -zxf pysvn-1.9.10.tar.gz
apt-get install subversion libsvn1 libsvn-dev make g++
cd pysvn-1.9.10/Source
python setup.py configure --pycxx-dir=/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/
make
Here i've got errors below:
Compile: /pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxsupport.cxx into cxxsupport.o
/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxsupport.cxx:42:10: fatal error: Src/Python3/cxxsupport.cxx: No such file or directory
#include "Src/Python3/cxxsupport.cxx"
Compile: /pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxextensions.c into cxxextensions.o
/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxextensions.c:42:10: fatal error: Src/Python3/cxxextensions.c: No such file or directory
#include "Src/Python3/cxxextensions.c"
It is needed to edit that files:
vi /pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxsupport.cxx
change #include "Src/Python3/cxxsupport.cxx" to
#include "Python3/cxxsupport.cxx"
and same on second file. Than make again:
make clean && make
...
Compile: /code/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxxextensions.c into cxxextensions.o
Compile: /code/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/IndirectPythonInterface.cxx into IndirectPythonInterface.o
Compile: /code/pysvn-1.9.10/Import/pycxx-7.1.3/Src/cxx_exceptions.cxx into cxx_exceptions.o
Link pysvn/_pysvn_3_7.so
Then just copy it to the site-packages (change to yours directory):
mkdir /usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/pysvn
cp /code/pysvn-1.9.10/Sources/pysvn/__init__.py /usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/
cp /code/pysvn-1.9.10/Sources/pysvn/_pysvn*.so /usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/

Agave dependency error

I am trying to install Agave under Fedora, but I got this error:
configure: error: gnome-doc-utils >= 0.3.2 not found
I tried to compile and install the gnome-doc-utils from this page, but i still got this error,and when i try the
yum list installed gnome-doc-utils*
command, I can't find the package. Do I have to register the package after installing? I don't think I have a error for the make install, because I don't see any the text error in the process, or I could be wrong.
In general, package managers (tools like yum) don't know that something has been installed on your machine unless it was installed as a package. If an agave package for Fedora exists, I would suggest using that instead of compiling from source.

easy_install M2Crypto failing on Windows platform

I am attempting to install M2Crypto on a Windows XP platform. I have Python, easy_install and SWIG installed, but when I attempt to easy_install M2Crypto I get the following:
SWIG\_m2crypto.i(31) : Error: Unable to find 'openssl\opensslv.h'
SWIG\_m2crypto.i(45) : Error: Unable to find 'openssl\safestack.h'
SWIG\_evp.i(12) : Error: Unable to find 'openssl\opensslconf.h'
SWIG\_ec.i(7) : Error: Unable to find 'openssl\opensslconf.h'
error: Setup script exited with error: command 'swig.exe' failed with exit status 1
I have read elsewhere that people have suggested easy_install openssl-devel, but that simply tells me that there are no packages found with that name. Is the name perhaps case-sensitive (I've tried various permutations without success), or does that advice not apply to Windows?
I'm not looking for alternatives to M2Crypto. I am picking up some existing code that uses it, so I need to get my development environment to be able to run what's already written.
As jay stated in his answer you should try to build it from source. And I tried. The setup.py does not recognize the --openssl option. Looking at the output from the default setup.py I realized that the search location was c:\pkg and not c:\pkg\openssl.
The solution:
Download and install OpenSSL from Win32 OpenSSL
Copy the lib and include folders to c:\pkg
Check that swig.exe is available in your path
Run easy_install M2Crypto
Worked for me like a charm.
Had a similar problem. After downloading the source package of M2Crypto and reading the INSTALL file I found the following:
Differences when installing on Windows
--------------------------------------
Before building from source, you need to install OpenSSL's include files,
import libraries and DLLs. By default setup.py assumes that OpenSSL include
files are in ``c:\pkg\openssl\include``, and the import libraries
in ``c:\pkg\openssl\lib``. As with other platforms, you can specify a different
OpenSSL location with --openssl option to build_ext command.

Help Installing psycopg2 on snow leopard : command '/usr/bin/gcc-4.0' failed with exit status 1

This has been driving me crazy for 2 days.
I have been trying to install psycopg2 using easy_install and no matter what I try (i.e using gcc-4.0 instead of the snow leopard default one) I always get the same error:
error: Setup script exited with error: command '/usr/bin/gcc-4.0' failed with exit status 1
Please see: http://dpaste.com/hold/228252/
I have googled that error so many times and nothing I have found seem to help.
Looks like you're missing a dependency, the development files for libpq. The relevant log part is here:
In file included from psycopg/psycopgmodule.c:32In file included from psycopg/psycopgmodule.c:32:
./psycopg/psycopg.h:31:22: error: libpq-fe.h: No such file or directory
Try installing libpq development files and then rerun easy_install. You may hit another missing dependency; pay attention to the first error that GCC spits out.
Link http://dpaste.com/hold/228252/ seems to be dead, this is how I solved this problem (Mac OS X 10.6, virtualenv).
If pip fails with this message, just take a look to build folder in your virtual environment. You should edit setup.cfg file there, particularly include_dirs and library_dirs. In first one set your include folders, my option was:
include_dirs=/opt/local/include/postgresql84:/opt/local/include/postgresql84/server
and most likely you will need to set library_dirs to correct location as well:
library_dirs=/opt/local/lib/postgresql84.
probably you should install postgresql-devel first
yum -y install postgresql-devel
