I need to display Week as number in AWS QuickSight. There is no WEEK function under extract. truncDate has WK, but this function does not result as Week_number: truncDate('WK',{date}). Any ideas?
In the field wells click the dropdown for your date field, mouse over Format and select 'More formatting options'. On the left panel in the Custom dropdown type 'w'.
Create a calculated field
dateDiff(truncDate('YYYY', mydate), mydate, 'WK')
As explained before, you can do what you are looking for by going to the Field Wells -> Datetime field (X or Y axis) -> Format -> More formatting Options -> Custom.
You can use W or w, the first will give you the week number corresponding to the current week, while the latter may offset you by a week. For instance, using an aggregation by DAY, the date of 14-Jun-2021 gives me Week 25 when I use custom w and Week 24 when I choose W.
If you want year and week combination then you can use customer format option and type 'Yw' (this will return 202121 - 2021 year and 21 week).

In a Report Builder table I have to show the value from the last day of the given month, when the month is not expanded.
When the month is expanded, the dates have to show the specific value for that day.
Example is January with values 1 to 31 (same as the day numbers):
When January is expanded, it has to show value 1 on Jan 1.... value 15 on Jan 15... value 31 on Jan 31.
When contracted (and the table only show one row for January), it should show the last day's value of 31
Some months do not have values on all days, so the formula just need to take the last value of that given month
When I use the formula "Last()", then it works half of the time, while for some months, the value extracted is the 3rd or 4th last day of the month - do you know what is wrong here?
Hope above makes sense, and thanks for help.
I think I fixed it my self:
Using Last () formula

How to give points to my self?
I think the question is fairly simple. I would like to have a dynamic filter on Quicksight. I have the column week which is a number (3, 4, 5 and 6) for example. The data is refreshed every week.
We want to show only the latest week by default (out of weeks 3, 4, 5 and 6, I want to filter by default on 6), but then the users can select if they want to see more weeks.
The week after, the default filter would be 7, and so on.
Is there a way to tell the filter to automatically filter by rule of MAX(week) or something like that?
It would be very helpful. I have other alternatives but they are not that great.
I would choose a date field that I understand that must exist in your data and then create a dynamic filter on that date field.
You create filters on date fields by selecting the filter conditions and date values that you want to use. There are three filter types for dates:
For your case, you will have to use
Relative – A series of date/time elements based on the current date. You can filter records based on the current date and your selected unit of measure (UOM). Date filter units include years, quarters, months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes.
Use the following procedure to create a relative filter for a date field.
On the toolbar at the left, choose Filter.
In the Filters pane that opens at left, choose the plus icon (+), and then choose a date field to filter on.
A new filter is added to the Filters pane.
In the Filters pane, choose the new filter to expand it.
For Filter type, choose Relative dates.
Choose a unit of time (week for your case).
Choose how you want the filter to relate to the time frame. For example, if you choose to report on weeks, your options are previous week, this week, week to date, last N weeks, and next N weeks.
If you choose Last n UOM, specify a number for your range—for example, last 2 weeks, or last 1 week.
Second solution.
Add Filter
Choose week
Type Top and Bottom Filter
Show Top write 1
By week ( use max aggregation)
Pasting an image from an analysis that I do the same thing for integer column year
I have a simple date table (marked as a Date Table)
the Date column is native to it, the rest are calculated columns.
This issue will be about these of them:
Month Name = FORMAT(Dates[Date], "Mmmm")
Month = Month(Dates[Date])
Both set to "Don't summarize".
I dropped them into value field of a visual out of curiousity, and a curious thing happened - despite "don't summarize" they took MIN form of value to display, but Month Name came out incorrect.
Image 1: 3 out of 4 lines in the column First Month Name are wrong, unlike Month which is fine.
Image 2: added Date to the row fields to check - line by line it's fine, but subtotal still wrong:
Image 3: I filtered Month Name in data view for February, to see which lines are for Month value of 1 - there is none.
This is a blank new report, no measures, no filters - that's all it is.
If someone can explain why this happens, thanks in advance
The columns with "Earliest"/"First"/"Min" are summarizing because they are implicit measures in a matrix visual. Since there are multiple months in one quarter it has to aggregate somehow.
The month name is a text field, so it sorts alphabetically by default. If you want it to sort by month number instead, you can use the Sort by Column feature to sort Month Name by Month.
i All.
I have created below measure to reflects always 3 month figures when month slicer is used.
3R =
CALCULATE(COUNT('Order'[Order/ not ordered]),DATESINPERIOD('Date'[Date],LASTDATE('Date'[Date]),-3,MONTH)))
However, when I try to add salesman figures as filter with below formula, and click to month slicer it is directly show just choosen month figures not 3 months.
3R John =
CALCULATE(COUNT('Order'[Order/ notordered])
,DATESINPERIOD('Date'[Date],LASTDATE('Date'[Date]),-3,MONTH),FILTER('Order','Order'[Salesman]="John")))
on below link I have shared a sample for this. there are 2 different table and 1 matrix.
Matrix is named working and 1 of the table is named as "not working properly". not selecting any value on slicer. all data gives same data. however when clicked month slicer not named main table is changing and this is correct. also matrix is correct but table that I am trying to achive is not working.
What i am trying to achive is, 3 month roling data based on customer and salesman. when click for example 1 on month slicer table should give January 2020, December 2019 and November 2019 figures.

below is the solution. worked for me.
3R John =CALCULATE(COUNT('Order'[Order/notordered]),DATESINPERIOD('Date'[Date],LASTDATE('Date'[Date]),-3,MONTH),'Order'[Salesman]="John"))
just remove filter('order', section and it is ok now.
Maybe I missed it but I'm attempting to create a dynamic 'Month' parameter based on a datetime field - but can't seem to get just the month! ? Am I missing something ?
here's my source DTTM date/time field -
In Manage Data > Edit [selected] Data Set > Data source
Just add 'calculated field':
truncDate('MM', date)
where MM returns the month portion of the date.
See manual of truncDate function
The only place in Quicksight that you can get just a month, e.g. "September" is on a date-based axis of a visual. To do so, click the dropdown arrow next to the field name in the fields list, select "Format: (date)" then "More Formatting Options..." then "Custom" and enter MMMM in the Custom format input box.
Quicksight menu selection as described
This will then show the full month name on the date axis in your visual. NB It will use the full month name on this visual for ALL time period "Aggregations" - e.g. if you change the visual to aggregate by Quarter, it will display the full name of the quarter's first month etc.
If you are talking about "Parameters" in the Quicksight analysis view then you can only create a "Datetime" formatted parameter and then only use the "Date picker" box format for this parameter in a control (+ filter).
If you use a calculated field in either data preparation or analysis view the only date functions do not allow full month names as an output, you can get the month number as an integer or one of the allowed date formats here:
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/data-source-limits.html#supported-date-formats
You'll need to hardcode the desired results using ifelse, min, and extract.
Extract will pull out the month as an integer. Quicksight has a desire to beginning summing integers, so we'll put MIN in place to prevent that.
ifelse(min(extract('MM',Date)) = 1,'January',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 2,'February',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 3,'March',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 4,'April',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 5,'May',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 6,'June',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 7,'July',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 8,'August',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 9,'September',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 10,'October',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 11,'November',min(extract('MM',Date)) = 12,'December','Error')
Also, I apologize if this misses the mark. I'm not able to see the screeshot you posted due to security controls here at the office.
You can use the extract function. Works like this:
event_timestamp Nov 9, 2021
extract('MM', event_timestamp)
11
You can add a calculated field using the extract function:
extract returns a specified portion of a date value. Requesting a time-related portion of a date that doesn't contain time information returns 0.
extract('MM', date_field)
