TomCat 9 service failed to start on Windows after TomCat 9 update - windows

I updated my app to the latest TomCat 9 available and after update TomCat service failed to start successfully as Windows service. I just see 404 error when trying to open the TomCat app. Also there are no logs at all in the log directory!
If I start TomCat locally by the command tomcat9.exe" //TS//MyApp it started successfully.
OS: Windows 7 and Server 2012
Does anybody have any ideas of how to troubleshoot this issue?

I think I had the same problem.
By default, Tomcat9 installs a service to run as "LOCAL SERVICE" instead of "SYSTEM".
I found that if you go the properties on your service and select the "Log On" option "Local System account", that it will then start to work.
In my case tomcat wouldn't log what the problem was, so there was no easy way to diagnose this.
Maybe this could be diagnosed by running Process Monitor, then seeing what directory it wanted to log to, then change the permissions on that directory so that any user could write to it.

Tomcat has a new option to launch as s SYSTEM: --ServiceUser=LocalSystem
Add it to the tomcat9w.exe //IS// --ServiceUser=LocalSystem

Error configuring wildfly as a windows service

I am using wildfly 10.1 in standalone mode and need to use it as a service.
I copied the service files to the bin folder and then installed the service from the command prompt.
This works well, except that it is impossible to stop the service without killing the process using taskkill.
As a fix, I tried replacing
set DESCRIPTION="WildFly Application Server"
with
set DESCRIPTION=WildFly Application Server
in the service.bat file as mentioned here. But this is causing the service not to start. The system log says:
The Wildfly service terminated with the following service-specific
error: Incorrect function.
How can I fix this issue and get the service starting and stoppping normally?
Add System variable JAVA_HOME to System variable and try to start the service. It worked for me.

How to start tomcat server manually

I installed tomcat 7 in my windows 7.Then ran C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.57\binstartup.bat,one window will open for 1 second and closes.when i hit http //localhost/8080 ,its not dsiplaying anything.I just checked C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.57\conf/server.xml and port is 8080.
Can somebody help on this.
Read RUNNING.txt and create C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.57\bin\setenv.bat file that sets JRE_HOME (or JAVA_HOME) path for Tomcat.
Sample from Tomcat 7 RUNNING.txt file using Java 6 JRE:
set "JRE_HOME=%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6"
exit /b 0
You need to set Java_Home in Cataline.bat first in order to run TomCat server.
Additional Information for running project using Tomcat Server.
You can cd into the folder where tomcatXX/bin is through command line and run "run startup". So, when you , run startup on command line it tries to run script from startup.bat file, probably it crashed because port to be used by TomCat to run server is already in use. If you try to point your url to localhost:8080, if TomCat's home page appears, that would be because your server is already running. You should ideally also try to point to Windows -> Preference -> Runtime Environment. Check if Tomcat server is added in list under Server Runtime Environment window, if not try to add that server by clicking Add button, and trying to locate where Tomcat/bin is stored. If that still doesn't help, I would suggest you to also try right clicking a project on your IDE then click Run As, then click Run Configuration, it will give you option to run application using TomcatServer. List of servers will be found on left side of Run Configuration window.

SonarQube installation failing to start service

I'm installing sonarqube on Windows Server 2012.
I have followed the following steps:
Downloaded sonarqube4.4 and extracted to C:\Sonarqube
Downloaded Java JDK 1.7.0_60 and jre 1.7.0_67 as well as jre7
Installed Windows SDK 7 and .NET Framework 4
Navigated to C:\sonar\bin\windows x86-64 and ran StartSonar.bat as an administrator, this ran ok with no output and Ihad to hot ctrl- Z to break
I then ran \windows-x86-64\InstallNTService.bat as an administrator and I am seeing the sonarQube services was launched, but failed to start.
Not sure what the problem is.
I believe you first ran \windows-x86-64\InstallNTService.bat successfully and then StartSonar.bat unsuccessfully (the inverse order of what you describe).
You probably have [this problem]: http://qualilogy.com/fr/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/09/Sonar_ServiceLaunchError2.jpg
Windows could not start the Sonar service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.
In that case, the solution is to change the user/rights to launch the Sonar service: https://qualilogy.com/en/migrate-sonarqube-tomcat-to-windows-service/
Go to the Services window, find the Sonar service, and open the Properties windows to change the user it logs on as to one with sufficient permissions.
I was able to solve this problem by creating a new folder named “Temp” in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\
The Log-File will show only
--> Wrapper Started as Service
Cleaning or creating >temp directory C:\Program Files (x86)\SonarQube\sonarqube\temp
<-- Wrapper Stopped
The SonarQube service was launched, but failed to start.
After a long search, I came up to this site http://zen-and-art-of-programming.blogspot.de/2013/03/installing-and-running-sonar-source.html.
Solution:
Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\ and create the directory Temp
2: Set the user rights to full access
3: Run the StartNTService.bat

mongodb : listen() attempts to access socket in a forbidden way

I downloaded 64-bit zipped version of mongodb for windows, created '/data/db' as instructed.
Now, when I run "mongod" command, I am getting the following error & the mongodb server shuts down automatically.
"ERROR : listen() failed error-10013. An attempt was made to access socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. "
Please help me to clear the firewall settings in windows to prevent this error & run mongodb.
I was able to fix the error by using the following command : "mongod --bind_ip="127.0.0.1". :)
This error also seems to happen when mongod is already running. On Windows 10, mongod will be listed under Background Processes in the Task Manager if it is running. If it is already running, ending the task should allow you to run mongod again without this error occurring. Also check that it is not running as a service; it may be set to restart automatically.
Also, if you have a docker container running mongodb, you also get this error. If you stop your container(s) running mongodb, then it should start up.
I was able to fix this issue by allowing access for Mongo Db Server Application under firewall settings in my antivirus settings.
After you did the above step, open the cmd as administrator and go to the bin path of mongodb application in your system.
Then run the below command.
mongod
Note : try the above steps only after you tried the below steps
1) https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/configure-windows-netsh-firewall/
2)https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-open-firewall-ports-in-windows-10,36451.html
I ran across a similar error which is why I ended up on this thread. For me, my solution was that McAfee Antivirus was blocking MongoDB.
The initial error basically showed that access was denied for mongo:
mongo error
I was able to do a search on the internet and found steps to allow MongoDB to run under McAfee Antivirus software by changing the setting for the app directly.
mcaffee settings
When I located MongoDB in the apps requesting internet access, it was initially set to blocked. I selected the app, clicked on edit and changed it to 'Designated ports'.
mongodb settings changed
Now, I am able to run mongo whether the mongod service is started automatically or if I start it manually in a hyper terminal window.

websphere not starting with error ADMU7704E

I created websphere server. I was able to launch my application with it. However after I enable the debugging , the server is not starting. I am getting the following error
"ADMU7704E: Failed while trying to start the Windows Service associated with
server: server1; probable error executing WASService.exe"
On some sites a workaround was to delete server.pid file but I am not seeing any such files in the location.
Please suggest
The first thing to test is to disable the WAS Windows service from Windows Services Panel and then try to start server using command line ie startserver.bat
You run this command from PROFILE_HOME/bin. if this starts fine, you can recreate the service using wasservicecmd
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21397335
If the manual startup fails , please check if any logs created under PROFILE_HOME/logs// Check for any error messages in SystemOut.log, SystemErr.log , native_stderr and native_stdout logs.
PROFILE_HOME is home directory of WAS profile.
