Test the view that is showing after authorisation - laravel

I am learning how to do simple tests on my application. Simply, I dont know how to get over the problem below.
Problem:
I am just trying to see, if my page is loading correctly by checking if site contain word "Send". Send is my button that is located in my view.
How can I check the view as a logged user?
My test function:
public function testSiteIsLoadingCorrectly()
{
$response = $this->get('/homepage');
$response->assertSee("Send");
}
After some research I got this function:
public function testSiteIsLoadingCorrectly() {
$user = User::factory()->create();
$response = $this->actingAs($user)
->withSession(['banned' => false])
->get('/');
$response->assertSee("Welcome on my page!");
}
It works great but only for "/". If I give another route, my console is showing a lot of text and finally it doesn't work.
How can I solve this?

assertSee() works bad with polish chars like ą,ę,ć etc...
That's the reason of all problems.
PS.
"Send" in Polish means "Wyślij"...

Laravel Error 500 on a parametric route when in production

I built a small blog where a editor can create articles and post it and users can read it without login.
The issue that I'm having is the following :
In production server, if a user try to access a blog article from the home by clicking on the 'Read more' button, gets a 500 internal server error.
I'm also using other parametric routes and they are working perfectly fine.
In development server, everything works fine.
Any idea of what could the issue's cause?
Thanks in advance
In the home page I'm rendering a list of all the articles via the PublicController's index() method with the following code :
public function index()
{
$articles = Article::all();
return view('welcome', compact('articles'));
}
And it works perfectly fine.
But when a user click on a item of the list should be redirected, via the 'show()' method of the Public Controller, to the article's details page but in reality the user is getting a 500 internal server error.
The show() method :
public function show($id)
{
$article = Article::find($id);
return view('article', compact('article'));
}
One thing that can help you is to logging the exceptions in your Handler.php file. This way you can see the error details (message, file and code line).

How to properly forward parameters from a POST result and avoid refresh (re-submit), with Laravel 5?

This is a basic issue, when submitting and performing a post, you normally want to avoid giving the user the chance to re-iterate the submit by refreshing or going back and forth with browser history.
(Backend re-submit, controls and checking is not questioned here. Of course they should be in place for security)
My solution was to have in Laravel web routes defined a post and a get route.
Like:
Route::post('/action', 'ActionController#doAction')->name('do.action');
Route::get('/action', 'ActionController#doActionConfirm')->name('do.action.confirm');
In ActionController something like:
public function doAction(Request $request)
{
....
return redirect()->route('do.action.confirm', [ 'data' =>
base64_encode(json_encode([
'action_id'=> $action_id,
'sent_to'=> $email,
'sent_success'=> $sent_success,
'sent_errors'=> $sent_errors,
]))]);
}
....
public function doActionConfirm(Request $request)
{
return view('confirmation')->with('data',$request->input('data'));
}
Then in my confirmation.blade.php get that $data decoded and displayed.
Is this the correct way to do it with Laravel?
What I don't like here:
is there's a better and more elegant way to forward data from the redirect()
is there a better way to manage get parameters to the GET route just to avoid people understanding and trying to inject unwanted data to the confirmation blade? (even if they will obtain nothing but no-sense views..because the page is doing nothing, it's simply displaying data in HTML blade)

Laravel 5.2 - How to access an App Presenter method in EventServiceProvider?

I have a guitar lessons site where there is an exercises table. The original developers placed some functions in ExercisePresenter to retrieve other bits of data associated with an exercise, such as its url.
Here is a function in ExercisePresenter that returns url for an exercise:
public function url()
{
return '/guitar-lesson-ex/' . $this->urlName() . '/' . $this->id;
}
So now I am creating an event on new exercise created so I can use pusher notifications. In the EventServiceProvider I have this:
public function boot(DispatcherContract $events)
{
parent::boot($events);
Exercise::created(function ($exercise) {
// need to update lesson difficulty
$lesid = $exercise->lesson_id;
$les = \App\Lesson::find($lesid);
$dif = $les->difficulty();
DB::table('lessons')
->where('id', $lesid)
->update(['difficulty' => $dif]);
// lets trigger NewExerciseEvent to send pusher notifications
$url = $exercise->url;
event(new NewExerciseEvent($message));
});
}
I thought in above code $url = $exercise->url; would work since I see $exercise->url used successfully in exercise views. But it is returning $url as null. Now, there is no url column in the exercise database, so I figure somehow when $exercise->url; is used in a view, laravel is figuring out that the ExercisePresenter is able to return the url.
I am debugging through PHPStorm, but when I get to $url = $exercise->url; and step in, I am just taken through various bits of laravel code that looks for a method, etc. I am not savvy enough with laravel to figure out what it is doing here differently than in the view (too bad we can't debug views...), but each time I try this $url is returned as null.
Any idea how to get this to work properly in my EventServiceProvider?
Thanks!
Figured it out:
$url = $exercise->present()->url;
I had been searching for how to use presenters but having just read (Laravel View Presenters From Scratch), everything is clear!
Sorry for posting prematurely.

Laravel 5 and Socialite - New Redirect After Login

Another newb question here, but hopefully someone can shed some light:
I am using Socialite with Laravel 5, and I want to be able to redirect the user to a page on the site after they have logged in. The problem is that using
return redirect('any-path-I-put-here');
simply redirects back to 'social-site/login?code=afkjadfkjdslkfjdlkfj...' (where 'social-site' is whatever site is being used i.e. facebook, twitter, google, etc.)
So, what appears to me to be happening is that the redirect() function in the Socialite/Contracts/Provider interface is overriding any redirect that I attempt after the fact.
Just for clarification, my routes are set up properly. I have tried every version of 'redirect' you can imagine ('to', 'back', 'intended', Redirect::, etc.), and the method is being called from my Auth Controller (though I have tried it elsewhere as well).
The question is, how do I override that redirect() once I am done storing and logging in the user with socialite? Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.
The code that contains the redirect in question is:
public function socialRedirect( $route, $status, $greeting, $user )
{
$this->auth->login( $user, true );
if( $status == 'new_user' ) {
// This is a new member. Make sure they see the welcome modal on redirect
\Session::flash( 'new_registration', true );
return redirect()->to( $route );// This is just the most recent attempt. It originated with return redirect($route);, and has been attempted every other way you can imagine as well (as mentioned above). Hardcoding (i.e., 'home') returns the exact same result. The socialite redirect always overrides anything that is put here.
}
else {
return redirect()->to( $route )->with( [ 'greeting' => $greeting ] );
}
}
... The SocialAuth class that runs before this, however, is about 500 lines long, as it has to determine if the user exists, register new users if necessary, show forms for different scenarios, etc. Meanwhile, here is the function that sends the information through from the Social Auth class:
private function socialLogin( $socialUser, $goto, $provider, $status, $controller )
{
if( is_null( $goto ) ) {
$goto = 'backlot/' . $socialUser->profile->custom_url;
}
if( $status == 'new_user' ) {
return $controller->socialRedirect($goto, $status, null, $socialUser);
}
else {
// This is an existing member. Show them the welcome back status message.
$message = 'You have successfully logged in with your ' .
ucfirst( $provider ) . ' credentials.';
$greeting =
flash()->success( 'Welcome back, ' . $socialUser->username . '. ' . $message );
return $controller->socialRedirect($goto, $status, $greeting, $socialUser);
}
}
I managed to workaround this problem, but I am unsure if this is the best way to fix it. Similar to what is stated in question, I got authenticated callback from the social media, but I was unable to redirect current response to another url.
Based on the callback request params, I was able to create and authenticate the user within my Laravel app. It worked good so far but the problems occured after this step when I tried to do a return redirect()->route('dashboard');. I tried all the flavours of redirect() helper and Redirect facade but nothing helped.
The blank page just stared at my face for over 2 days, before I checked this question. The behaviour was very similar. I got redirect from social-media to my app but could not further redirect in the same response cycle.
At this moment (when the callback was recieved by the app and user was authenticated), if I refreshed the page manually (F5), I got redirected to the intended page. My interpretation is similar to what's stated in this question earlier. The redirect from social-media callback was dominating the redirects I was triggering in my controller (May be redirect within Laravel app got suppressed because the redirect from social-media was still not complete). It's just my interpretation. Experts can throw more light if they think otherwise or have a better explaination.
To fix this I issued a raw http redirect using header("Location /dashboard"); and applied auth middleware to this route. This way I could mock the refresh functionality ,redirect to dashboard (or intended url) and check for authentication in my DashboardController.
Once again, this is not a perfect solution and I am investigating the actual root of the problem, but this might help you to move ahead if you are facing similar problem.
I believe you are overthinking this. Using Socialite is pretty straight forward:
Set up config/services.php. For facebook I have this:
'facebook' => [
'client_id' => 'your_fb_id',
'client_secret' => 'your_fb_secret',
'redirect' => '>ABSOLUTE< url to redirect after login', //like: 'http://stuff'
],
Then set up two routes, one for login and one for callback (after login).
In the login controller method:
return \Socialize::with('facebook')->redirect();
Then in the callback function
$fb_user = \Socialize::with('facebook')->user();
// check if user exists, create it and whatnot
//dd($fb_user);
return redirect()->route('some.route');
It should be pretty much similar for all other providers.
We are using the Socialite login in our UserController as a trait. We simply overrode the AuthenticatesSocialiteLogin::loginSuccess() in our controller.
use Broco\SocialiteLogin\Auth\AuthenticatesSocialiteLogin;
class UserController extends BaseController
{
use AuthenticatesSocialiteLogin;
public function loginSuccess($user)
{
return redirect()->intended(url('/#login-success'));
}
....

redirect is not working in codeigniter _construct function

I am facing a problem using redirect in _construct function,
In timesheet controller I wrote the following code and I am getting an error in the browser "
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to
accept
cookies.
Here is my code
class Timesheet extends MY_Controller {
public function __construct()
{
parent::__construct();
$this->load->model('timesheet_model');
//$this->load->library('auth');
$username=$this->session->userdata('logged_in');
//$this->load->model('login_model');
if($username['fullname']!=""){
redirect('timesheet');
}
else{
redirect('login');
}
}
Please help me to find a way to get rid of this problem.
Thanks.
It looks to me like you're going around in a loop.
You check to see if the fullname element in your $username array is empty and, if it is, you redirect back to the same controller. I'm willing to bet it goes around in a circle like that for a while before the webserver throws up the error you mention.
If I'm reading what you're trying to do correctly, wouldn't you call another function within your Timesheet constructor if the fullname element is present to show whatever information it is that you're trying to display?
I'd suggest changing your logic to do the following:
if($username['fullname'] == ""){
redirect('login');
}
else{
//go to another controller method here
}
OK. I got it. The error is just because of I am redirecting to same controller where I have written the code. Everytime when it redirects to timesheet it enters into the construct function and it redirects again to timesheet. And the same thing is working like an endless loop.
So the fault was redirecting to the same controller.
I
use redirect like this : redirect('timesheet', 'refresh');
