You can try some of the following options:
- changing the IDE settings.
- changing the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
- changing `org.gradle.java.home` in `gradle.properties`.

I would like to understand how and why Xcode could be picking up the wrong version, obviously besides the fact that it can't find JAVA_HOME
It looks like this happens because xcode can't find the setup java version and gets some sort of default value.
If you would try to run your xcode project right now (I only reproduced this on BigSur) it will not work because the java version will show as outdated.
If you inspect with jenv or java you will find that your innner project folders and general version of java are setup correctly.
To fix this I just add an "export JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/libexec/java_home -v)" or "source ~/.zshrc" or "source ~/.bash_profile" before your run your scripts in Xcode
Of course the global version or your java_home must be in the correct java version you want to use

Pre-Check - Verify the java Version installed in your system.
VERIFY - java -version
java version "1.8.0_221" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build
1.8.0_221-b11) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.221-b11, mixed mode)
If this message appears that means you have JAVA 8 install and uiautomatorviewer only supports till JAVA 8.
So install JAVA 8 from here and if you already have JAVA install down grade it to JAVA 8
I'm new to Jasper reports and Mac. I have downloaded iReport-5.6.0.dmg. It got saved in downloads. Later I moved to applications. The .dmg didnt install and when I just open the .dmg and right click to open for Jaspersoft report designer, it didnt open.
I just saw some questions, but nothing helped.
I'm using mac os Sierra 10.12.2

You should setup JDK 1.7s as JAVA_HOME otherwise you'll see like this error
"The current path is: C: \ Java \ jdk1.8.0The current path is: C: \ Java \ jdk1.8.0Java HotSpot (TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize = 512m; support was removed in 8.0" and you can setup jaspersoft studio community its working.
Issue was with the JDK version.
If the JDK version is 1.8, Jasperstudio has to be installed. It worked fine.
I have searched several ways to change JDK version on mac.
$/usr/libexec/java_home
And I got
/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_31.jdk/Contents/Home
I tried
$export JAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_31.jdk/Contents/Home
also tried
/usr/libexec/java_home 1.8.0_31 --exec javac -version
then I run
$echo $JAVA_HOME
/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_31.jdk/Contents/Home
then I re-check java -version
$java -version
java version "1.7.0_67"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_67-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)
How I can really change java -version on my mac.
To set Java to 1.8 for your shell environment, put this in your ~/.bash_profile:
export JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.8`
Solution without 3rd party tools:
leave all JDKs at their default location, under /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines. The system will pick the highest version by default.
To exclude a JDK from being picked by default, rename its Contents/Info.plist to Info.plist.disabled. That JDK can still be used when $JAVA_HOME points to it, or explicitly referenced in a script or configuration. It will simply be ignored by system's java command.
System launcher will use the JDK with highest version among those that have an Info.plist file.
When working in a shell with alternate JDK, pick your method among existing answers (jenv, or custom aliases/scripts around /usr/libexec/java_home, etc).
I would like to use java and javac on Mac OS X 10.8.2, but in the terminal when I ask for version with this command: java -version or javac -version it returns the following versions:
java version "1.6.0_37"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_37-b06-434-11M3909)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.12-b01-434, mixed mode)
and
javac 1.6.0_37
When I go to the settings app and tap on the Java icon in the Other section, it opens the Java Control Panel and there the jre version is 1.7.0_10
Which is used? And how can I update the java in terminal, not to use the 1.6.0 version?
Does anybody experienced this problem?
Open Java Preference App, you may find several JDKs, you can drag JDK7 to the top of the list, then re-open the shell, and invoke java -version. It will change to the JDK7.
With the recently OSX JDK 7 ea release from Oracle. How to run Eclipse Indigo ?
I get the following error msg:

I just tried this myself and had some complications so I thought I would share what ended up working for me:
Download and install Mac OSX version of Java SE Development Kit 7
Under Eclipse -> Preferences -> Java -> Installed JREs, click Add, select Mac OS X VM, then click Next.
Enter "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.7.0.jdk/Contents/Home" as the JRE home directory, enter something reasonable like "Java SE 7" as the JRE name, and then click Finish. (Note that you won't be able to navigate to the "../Contents/Home" folder. You will have to type it in manually.)
After adding the new JRE to the list of Eclipse installed JREs, check the box next to the new JRE that you just added and then click OK.
Now under Eclipse -> Preferences -> Java -> Compiler, select 1.7 from the "Compiler compliance level" dropdown and click Ok.
Hope this helps someone who has problems figuring this out. The confusing part for me was selecting the JRE home directory in Eclipse, since I wasn't able to navigate to it.
The Eclipse bug is resolve in the last Eclipse 3.8 Milestone.
It's work for me.
Try this: http://twitter.com/#!/cimnine/status/126219234203271168/photo/1
Worked for me.
This is an old solution and has no relevance anymore.
