Maven set environment variable inside pom.xml - maven

I'm trying to set a environment variable inside pom.xml. I was doing something like this with maven-surefire-plugin:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.22.2</version>
<configuration>
<forkMode>always</forkMode>
<environmentVariables>
<MY_PATH>${project.parent.relativePath}</MY_PATH>
</environmentVariables>
</configuration>
</plugin>
But i can't access it from another pom.xml with ${env.MY_MATH}. I can only access it with System.getenv("MY_PATH") inside JAVA. I need to access it in another pom.xml. Maybe there are some other plugins that are doing that? I know that i can pass it with mvn -DMY_PATH=some/path install but it will just set it inside the pom where i passed this var and i need it to be setted as global env.

while executing Citrus integration tests through maven is it possible to pass environmental variables like citrus xml file name pattern

I have Integrartion test class which execute xml test cases at particular folder I am excuting xml test cases like this
mvn integration-test -Dtest=test name
I want to pass citrus xml file name pattern while executing the above maven command how can I pass it suppose citrus by default taking //*IT.xml or //*Test.xml i want to change the pattern names like *something.xml I want to achive this through maven command.
You need to set the property in Maven failsafe plugin (or surefire if you are using this plugin):
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-failsafe-plugin</artifactId>
<version>${failsafe.plugin.version}</version>
<configuration>
<systemProperties>
<citrus.xml.file.name.pattern>**/*Foo.xml</citrus.xml.file.name.pattern>
</systemProperties>
</configuration>
...
</plugin>
In case you want to set this parameter as Maven command line argument you need to also introduce a new project property:
<properties>
<filename.pattern>**/*Foo.xml</filename-pattern>
</properties>
...
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-failsafe-plugin</artifactId>
<version>${failsafe.plugin.version}</version>
<configuration>
<systemProperties>
<citrus.xml.file.name.pattern>${filename.pattern}</citrus.xml.file.name.pattern>
</systemProperties>
</configuration>
...
</plugin>
Now you can call
mvn integration-test -Dfilename.pattern=**/*Something.xml

Insert MAVEN_OPTS in the POM.xml

I must increase java heap space to compile my project. The only way I found is modify mvn.bat and set:
set MAVEN_OPTS=-XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xms1300M -Xmx1300M
than all colleagues must change the file localy.
I want keep all inside my project, not localy. Can I insert in the POM.xml or other file?
Setting MAVEN_OPTS usually provides arguments to the JVM running the build, and these are passed down to the compiler because it runs inline. You have probably already noted that the maven-surefire-plugin used for test usually fork a separate process so passing options to the plugin is bound inside the pom.xml.
What if you fork the compilation process also and add the flags there, such as the below example.
Notice the fork and the compiler args
<project>
[...]
<build>
[...]
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<fork>true</fork>
<meminitial>128m</meminitial>
<maxmem>512m</maxmem>
<compilerArgument>-verbose -bootclasspath ${java.home}\lib\rt.jar</compilerArgument>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
[...]
</build>
[...]
</project>

How to pass environment variable to process started as mvn jetty:run?

The process started by maven jetty plugin seems ignoring any environment variables I specify.
So far I've tried adding variable through command line like:
set myvariable=1
Also I've tried adding something like "-Dmyvariable=1" to MAVEN_OPTS variable.
Nothing helps.
Just to be clear, I need to pass variable not to maven but to the resulting process, i.e. directly to jetty server.
You need to specify a systemProperties section in the plugin's configuration:
<project>
...
<plugins>
...
<plugin>
<groupId>org.mortbay.jetty</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-jetty-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
...
<systemProperties>
<systemProperty>
<name>myvariable</name>
<value>1</value>
</systemProperty>
...
</systemProperties>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</project>

Maven - Parent Pom - Child Inheritance

I am attempting to make a maven parent pom setup where I don't have to declare any plugin information in my child pom, everything is taken from the parent pom.
I essentially have it working where I've put all my plugins with there configurations in to the parent pom. Then in the child poms I have to declare the plugin still, but without the version and configuration information.
I don't want to have to declare the plugin in the child at all. This way I can add new features (such as pmd, freebugs, etc) to my parent pom and all my projects now have them working. How can I accomplish this?
Parent Pom
<pluginManagement>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-scm-plugin</artifactId>
<version>1.0</version>
<inherited>true</inherited>
<configuration>
<providerImplementations>
<cvs>cvs_native</cvs>
</providerImplementations>
<systemProperties>
<property>
<name>maven.scm.perforce.clientspec.name</name>
<value>${perforceClientSpec}</value>
</property>
</systemProperties>
</configuration>
</plugin>
Child Pom still needs this but I don't want to have to do this if I can avoid it:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-scm-plugin</artifactId>
</plugin>
<pluginManagement> section is intended to configure project builds that inherit from this one. However, this only configures plugins that are actually referenced within the plugins element in the children (so you have to explicitly specify them, as you indicated). See more here.
If you want to avoid this, you can put this information into <build> section like this:
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-scm-plugin</artifactId>
<version>1.0</version>
<configuration>
<...>
</configuration>
<executions>
<...>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
Instead of using pluginManagement, try using just <plugins> tag. It should be auto inherited. You may optionally override configuration in child pom. Check that by mvn help:effective-pom
You can't avoid naming the plugin in the child pom, cause how should maven know which plugin are you using. The pluginManagement section is intended for defining the versions of plugin furthermore it's used to define a default configuration.

exclude TestNG-Groups on maven build in hudson

I want to use hudson to build a maven-java project. Some of my integration tests use servers which are not reachable from the hudson-server. So i want to exclude them using a special profile.
<profile>
<id>hudson</id>
<build>
<pluginManagement>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-failsafe-plugin</artifactId>
<configuration>
<excludedGroups>ticketserver,print</excludedGroups>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</pluginManagement>
</build>
</profile>
</profile
Unfortunatly i am already excluding a group in my general pom.
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-failsafe-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.10</version>
<configuration>
<excludedGroups>manual</excludedGroups>
</configuration>
Using mvn help:effective-pom i found out, that this setting overrides the one from my profile. Is there are way exclude all three test-classes when running in the hudson profile?
I though about putting the failsage-configuration in to every profile i have and removing it from the general pom but that does seem right, as i would need to repeat it for every profile i have.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Solved this by defining a property "testGroupsToSkip", which is set in the main-pom. it is then used as the value for excludedGroups. In my Profile i overwrite the property with the new value.
