Are there any tools for easily creating structure charts? - documentation-generation

I need to create a structure chart as part of a school assignment, but all the normal chart and graph creation programs I have used such as yEd and draw.io lack the symbols needed.
Does anyone know of any similar programs that can be used to create a structure chart?

Is it possible to programatically create labels in AutoCad?

Our engineering department wastes a great amount of time reviewing drawings for errors. The majority of these problems involve human errors in labeling (ie. two rooms have the name 01-01-00-RM). Our IT department has come up with a partial solution by automation the room names. However, the engineers still have to type this into AutoCAD.
Is there any way to create labels in AutoCAD based on another file (ie. an Excel/CSV document)? Ideally, one would create a group in a layer and enforce that all elements be unique, then have them retrieve their values from a document.

Yes it's possible, there some different paths:
Lisp: very common on AutoCAD environment and allow some basic (and not so basic) automations.
VBA/COM: can be used from inside AutoCAD or by external process, just need to CreateObject("Application.AutoCAD") and program the steps
.NET or C++: in-process automation that allow powerful customization, up to a major remodeling of AutoCAD.
So, depending on your expertise, you may choose different approaches. It may also combine with batch processing via AutoCAD Console.

If the labels were blocks with attributes then you could use the ATTOUT and ATTIN commands in Express tools to export / import them in to/out of Excel. Watch for cell formatting in Excel - eg. numbers like 1/2 turn into dates if you leave the formatting as "General".
Programmatically this is reasonably trivial if the data is structured. An AutoCAD drawing is actually a hierarchical object database so everything in it is addressable, finding it is often the hardest part. If you have an AutoCAD installation handy, have a look into a drawing with MGDDBG to get an idea of the database structure.

GEF sketchy figure

I am trying to create a eclipse based editor for class diagram for a school project. One of the main requirement is that the diagram need to have a "sketchy effect" (something like the one shown in this website yuml)
I am new to Eclipse graphical editor frameworks, and I want to get some opinion about how I can implement it (pros/cons of using plain GEF vs GMF). My preference will be to use GEF as it may require a lot of customization in the future and I find that GMF has a high learning curve and not much documentation.
If I implement it using GEF, will it better done by using SVG graphics and should the figure or edit parts be splitted (to three parts : box for Class name, box for Properties, and box for Methods)?
Think it's best to use SVG for the sketchy shape. GEF doesn't have support for SVG images, GMF does. You can try to borrow SVG handling from GMF - it's not too complicated.

How to get a Vizify-like data visualization UI control?

I looked over some popular frameworks like Tableau, FusionCharts, Charts.js, etc but didn't find a chart specific to my requirement. I need to visualize certain data in vizify.com or mind-map like manner i.e. one big circle at the center, an several small circles branching out. Each circle will have short text inside. It's not like a network graph where one node is connected to multiple node. It need not be interactive, but some fluid animation will be nice.
Platform: Windows 8 (Windows Store) app OR the web.
Please help.
I assume you could embed a web page inside of your app. If so, I would use D3.js. It is extremely powerful and flexible. There a ton of examples on their examples page.

Modifying d3js parsets reusable chart

I am new to D3js and working with the parsets reusable chart (http://www.jasondavies.com/parallel-sets/). I want to make changes to this chart such as adding sort based on thickness of ribbons on mouseover, and overlaying two parallel sets over each other to compare different datasets at once (The one at the back being faded).
Being new to D3js, I am having difficulty in understanding where to start. I am currently trying to understand the code of d3.parsets.js but its not going too well. If anyone has worked with this before and understands the procedure being followed in the code, please help me out.
The best adaptation I've seen of d3.parsets.js is by Hongjian Yang: Airline Vis adapted from d3.parsets.
It may be able to accomplish some of what you're looking for, though I'm not sure you'll readily be able to overlay two datasets (nor am I sure I understand the need to do so).

Interactive Heatmap / Matrix Visualization

I would like to display on a webpage a heatmap (matrix) that I generate in R.
The matrix I have looks like this, but in my case the size is 300x300.
Basically I am looking for an interactive clustering, which would look like this :

I would like to be able to clic on a branch which would then highlight the selected group/text, and fade out the rest of the matrix.
I have had a look around and cannot find much. I don't even know what language I should use for this ? JSON, Flash, HTML5, javascript, google charts ?

I think that InCHlib - Interactive Cluster Heatmap library could be the solution.

You may also want to take a look at jQuery Flot, but be warned that WSJ uses a super expensive company called Tableau for data visualization and you are unlikely to find that level of visualization eye candy in an open source or free to use package.
Unfortunately, I had the same requirement. To create a Clustergram (Heatmap + Dendrogram) for a hierarchical clustering results.
There is no direct solution for this. I used ProtovisGWT (Choosel) to create dendrogram and heatmap seperatley and later combnied them.
If you just want js library you can use just protovis or d3.js to achieve this.
I would recommend using JavaScript for this task. Save your heatmap as SVG in R

And then embed it into an HTML document as object

You could try http://amp.pharm.mssm.edu/clustergrammer/ . It is not written in R, but you can make an interactive clustergram by uploading a matrix file in tab-separated format and you will be returned an interactive (reorderable, searchable, filterable, etc) and shareable web-based visualization
D3heatmap provides interactive heatmaps with dendrograms in R based on the heatmap and heatmap.2 interfaces. It includes single row and column selection but does not currently allow selection of dendrogram branches.
