Gatsby result from useStaticQuery is undefined - graphql

I have a variable that stores the results from a useStaticQuery call but when I console.log it, it's undefined. The query works fine in GraphiQL, so why isn't it working with useStaticQuery?
const {backgroundImages} = useStaticQuery(graphql`
query {
allFile(
filter: {extension: {regex: "/(png)/"}, relativeDirectory: {eq: "slider"}}
) {
edges {
node {
base
childImageSharp {
gatsbyImageData(width: 10, quality: 10, webpOptions: {quality: 70})
}
}
}
}
}
`)
console.log(backgroundImages) // undefined

The issue is because you're destructuring the result and asking for the key backgroundImages that does not exist on the result of your query.
This query would return a result similar to:
{
"data": {
"allFile": {
"edges": [
"node": .....
]
}
}
}
That means you cannot access the object backgroundImages by destructuring ({...}), but you can access data. If you try:
const {data} = useStaticQuery(graphql`
query {
...
}
`)
console.log(data)
You should be able to see the log for the query.

How to implement a filter on a query in Apollo?

I'm attempting to filter a query by a specific field. I can achieve this in Apollo explorer in dev tools but I can't seem to translate this into code.
The following works in Apollo explorer:
query ListUsersByType($filter: TableUsersFilterInput) {
listUsers(filter: $filter) {
items {
email
id
type
}
}
}
{
"filter": {
"type": {
"eq": "ADMIN"
}
}
}
I am unsure how this translates to the code using the useQuery hook however.
When I try the following it doesn't filter the list at all, it just fetches all of them regardless of type:
const ListUsersByType = gql`
query ListUsersByType($type: TableUsersFilterInput) {
listUsers(filter: $type) {
items {
email
id
type
}
}
}
`
const { data, loading, error } = useQuery(ListUsersByType, {
variables: {
filter: {
type: {
eq: 'ADMIN',
},
},
},
})
What am I missing here?
Your names are not correct
Here you say filter will use the variable type
const ListUsersByType = gql`
query ListUsersByType($type: TableUsersFilterInput) {
listUsers(filter: $type) {
items {
email
id
type
}
}
}
`
And here you pass filter
const { data, loading, error } = useQuery(ListUsersByType, {
variables: {
filter: {
type: {
eq: 'ADMIN',
},
},
},
})
You can
First solution
replace $type by $filter
const ListUsersByType = gql`
query ListUsersByType($filter: TableUsersFilterInput) {
listUsers(filter: $filter) {
items {
email
id
type
}
}
}
`
Second solution
rename the variable filter to type
const { data, loading, error } = useQuery(ListUsersByType, {
variables: {
type: {
type: {
eq: 'ADMIN',
},
},
},
})
My opinion
I let you choose but the first option seems the best

apollo client cache for nested queries

I have a nested query (query inside query) with apollo client.
Everything works great, I do the request and get the correct data, but the issue is when I'm trying to use the cache, the cache returns undefined for the nested query prop.
My query:
query GetStudents($first: Int!, $after: String) {
me {
id
email
firstName
lastName
students(first: $first, after: $after) {
edges {
node {
id
created
number
status
}
}
pageInfo {
endCursor
hasNextPage
}
}
}
}
When I try to use the inMemoryCache, the students is always undefined :
new InMemoryCache({
typePolicies: {
Query: {
fields: {
me: {
keyArgs: false,
merge(existing = {}, incoming = {}, { readField }) {
const id = readField("id", incoming);
const email = readField("email", incoming);
const students = readField("students", incoming);
return {
...
};
},
},
}
}
}
});
I can read correctly the id and email from the cache, but the students (which is the nested query) will be always undefined.
Do I need to read the cache students in a different way because it is a query?

WpGraphQL query returns null

I'm having this GraphQL query from headless Wordpress in Nexjs via WpGraphQl plugin:
export const GET_POSTS_BY_CATEGORY_SLUG = gql`
query GET_POSTS_BY_CATEGORY_SLUG( $slug: String, $uri: String, $perPage: Int, $offset: Int ) {
${HeaderFooter}
page: pageBy(uri: $uri) {
id
title
content
slug
uri
seo {
...SeoFragment
}
}
categories(where: {slug: $slug}) {
edges {
node {
slug
posts: posts(where: { offsetPagination: { size: $perPage, offset: $offset }}) {
edges {
node {
id
title
excerpt
slug
featuredImage {
node {
...ImageFragment
}
}
}
}
pageInfo {
offsetPagination {
total
}
}
}
}
}
}
}
${MenuFragment}
${ImageFragment}
${SeoFragment}
`;
And this is my getStaticProps function:
export async function getStaticProps(context) {
const { data: category_IDD } = await client.query({
query: GET_POSTS_BY_CATEGORY_SLUG,
});
const defaultProps = {
props: {
cat_test: JSON.parse(JSON.stringify([category_IDD])),
},
revalidate: 1,
};
return handleRedirectsAndReturnData(defaultProps, data, errors, "posts");
}
If i pass it like this in props:
const defaultProps = {
props: {
cat_test: category_IDD,
},
i get an error saying:
SerializableError: Error serializing `.cat_test` returned from `getStaticProps` in "/category/[slug]". Reason: `undefined` cannot be serialized as JSON. Please use `null` or omit this value.
But when i JSON.parse as the code above, i get null
Whats wrong with this query?
Just noticed that the $slug is an array of strings, so here should be:
query GET_POSTS_BY_CATEGORY_SLUG( $slug: [String], $uri: String, $perPage: Int, $offset: Int )
instead of $slug: String
You're not actually passing the $slug variable to the query.
For instance if your page route is /category/[slug].js your getStaticProps should look something like this.
export async function getStaticProps(context) {
const { slug } = context.params;
const { data: category_IDD } = await client.query({
query: GET_POSTS_BY_CATEGORY_SLUG,
variables: { slug },
});
const defaultProps = {
props: {
cat_test: JSON.parse(JSON.stringify([category_IDD])),
},
revalidate: 1,
};
return handleRedirectsAndReturnData(defaultProps, data, errors, "posts");
}

Unknown Type of Strapi/Gatsby Graphql Query Fragment

I'm trying to query data within a Strapi Dynamic Zone in Gatsby. In the Graphql Playground I can get this to work, but using the same query in Gatsby I receive the following error in the terminal:
error Unknown type "ComponentTextArticleCopy" graphql/template-strings
And my query in article.js
export const query = graphql`
query ArticleTemplate($id: String!) {
strapiArticle(id: { eq: $id }) {
articleHeader {
articleTitle
articleSnippet
}
articleContent {
__typename
... on ComponentTextArticleCopy {
contentCopy
}
... on ComponentImageContentImg {
imgCaption
}
... on ComponentTextArticleQuote {
contentQuote
}
}
}
}
`
According to the Graphql docs, Inline Fragment would seem to be the right approach but clearly I've got something wrong somewhere.
The following query 'works' on Gatsby but tries to resolve for all components:
query MyQuery {
allStrapiArticle {
edges {
node {
__typename
articleContent {
contentCopy
contentQuote
}
}
}
}
}
{
"data": {
"allStrapiArticle": {
"edges": [
{
"node": {
"__typename": "StrapiArticle",
"articleContent": [
{
"contentCopy": null,
"contentQuote": null
},
{
"contentCopy": "What a great city Gothenburg is. We even took a trip out to the archipelago. ",
"contentQuote": null
},
{
"contentCopy": null,
"contentQuote": null
},
{
"contentCopy": null,
"contentQuote": "You must visit at have fika"
}
]
}
}
]
}
},
Deleting Cache folder and running again worked for me.

Graphql returning Cannot return null for non-nullable field Query.getDate. As I am new to graphql I want to know is my approach is wrong or my code?

I have created resolver, schema and handler which will fetch some record from dynamoDB. Now when I perform query then I am getting "Cannot return null for non-nullable field Query.getDate" error. I would like to know whether my approach is wrong or there is any change required in code.

make: 'moto' } }
Thanks in advance!
This is your code:
const data = {
getDate(args) {
var params = {
TableName: 'delete_this',
Key: {
"id": args.id
}
};
client.get(params, function(err,data){
if(err){
console.log('error occured '+err)
}else{
console.log(data)
}
});
},
};
const resolvers = {
Query: {
getDate: (root, args) => data.getDate(args),
},
};
You're seeing that error because getDate is a a Non-Null field in your schema, but it is resolving to null. Your resolver needs to return either a value of the appropriate type, or a Promise that will resolve to that value. If you change data like this
const data = {
getDate(args) {
return {
id: 'someString',
transaction_date: 'someString',
}
}
}
you'll see the error go away. Of course, your goal is to return data from your database, so we need to add that code back in. However, your existing code utilizes a callback. Anything you do inside the callback is irrelevant because it's ran after your resolver function returns. So we need to use a Promise instead.
While you can wrap a callback with Promise, that shouldn't be necessary with aws-sdk since newer versions support Promises. Something like this should be sufficient:
const data = {
getDate(args) {
const params = //...
// must return the resulting Promise here
return client.get(params).promise().then(result => {
return {
// id and transaction_date based on result
}
})
}
}
Or using async/await syntax:
const data = {
async getDate(args) {
const params = //...
const result = await client.get(params).promise()
return {
// id and transaction_date based on result
}
}
}
