Capture raw axios request from AWS Lambda - aws-lambda

I have code that calls a vendor API to do a formdata upload of a file by axios from inside an AWS Lambda. The call returns a 400 error. If I run the code locally using the same node version v14 it works. I want to capture both raw requests and compare them for differences. How do I capture both raw requests? I've tried using ngrok and pipedream but they don't show the raw but decode the request and the file.

You might be able to just use a custom request interceptor and interrogate at the requests that way.

You're not able to capture the request on the network level, as this is totally controlled by AWS. Maybe there's a way to do this when running in a VPC, but I don't think so.
You could simply use a tool such as axios debug logger to print out all of the request and response contents (including headers etc) before the request is made/after the response has arrived. This might provide some more information as to where things are going wrong.
As to the cause of the problem, it is difficult to help you there since you haven't shared the error message nor do we know anything about the API you're trying to call.

There are multiple ways to debug
axios debug logger .
AWS cloud watch where you can see all the logs. you can capture the request
and response.
Use postman to call the prod lambda endpoint and verify the response.

CORs error when accessing Square V2 API

I'm making a client-side request out to V2 of the Square API using Vue and Axios. My Vue component is as follows:

However, when I make that call, I receive the following error:
Failed to load https://connect.squareup.com/v2/catalog/list: Response to preflight request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'https://local-env.dev' is therefore not allowed access. The response had HTTP status code 403.
That error suggests that there is some configuration that has to happen on the Square side, but I saw no opportunity to whitelist domains, etc.
Has anyone come across this error before, regardless of service, and if so, how did you resolve?
I don't think the Square API supports being called from a browser. I used Postman to do an OPTIONS request on https://connect.squareup.com/v2/catalog/list and the response was a NOT_FOUND. The OPTIONS request is needed for proper CORS support.
Plus, if you did this, I would think your auth token would need to be sent to the client -- thus exposing it to everyone. It looks like the Square API is only designed to be called from a server. But that is just based on me skimming the docs a bit. I have no experience using their API.
When doing OAuth authorization request you are not supposed to do it from your application. Create and URL with the parameters and open it in a new browser window or tab, Something like:

That new window is supposed to ask the end user to login to his account and accept or deny the request.

API Gateway unable to decode base64

I am attempting to use a node based lambda function to return jpeg images from s3, using API Gateway.
My Lambda function reads as:

I have also modified the integration response in API gateway to "Convert to binary (if needed)". When I try testing this function I receive the error "Execution failed due to configuration error: Unable to base64 decode the body.".
Is there a step I am missing to allow me to retrieve base64 encoded files?
I'm not sure about it, but have you tried to use this instead of the toString called directly on your object?

Sounds like you're using AWS integration type of API Gateway instead of LAMBDA integration and in that case API Gateway would expect entire message to be base64 encoded, not just the body. For your use case you probably should use LAMBDA integration and return json with statusCode, body, headers, and Content-Type as you currently do.

Amazon CORS-enabled api returns no 'Access-Control_allow_Origin' header

After setting up Amazon API Gateway CORS as instructed, I still get the following error when send an Ajax POST request.
XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://-------.execute-api.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/--------. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://------.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com' is therefore not allowed access. The response had HTTP status code 400.
I'm using Amazon S3 to host the website, which does not support web script so I can't use python or php to fix this.
I'd really appreciate any help.
Could it be that you're using Lambda-proxy integration and your Lambda is not returning those headers? If that's the case, you have to add those headers yourself.

Cannot access error response body from client when using nginx + lua

I'm using the following lua script to forward all server responses that are served from Node. My error handling for a /signup route works as follows:

From the client I send a typical signup request like so, using the superagent-promise library:

When I send a valid post request from the client, the response variable in the .then successfully contains the response body.
However, when I sent an improper post request with invalid credentials, neither the .then nor the .catch executes. Instead, the Chrome console immediately displays POST http://api.dockerhost/signup 401 (Unauthorized).
I would like to know what I can do differently to successfully access the server's error response and its contents, outside of just its status code.
Per the manual, you need to use ngx.HTTP_OK as the return if you want nginx to return content as part of the page. Otherwise it will simply return a 401.

SailsJS - using sails.io.js with JWT

I have implemented an AngularJS app, communicating with Sails backend through websockets, using sails.io.js.
Since the backend is basically a pure API and will be connected to from other apps as well, I'm trying to disable sessions completely and use JWT.
I have set up express-jwt and can use regular HTTP requests quite nicely, but when I send a request through sails.io.js, nothing happens at all - websocket request keeps pending on the client, and there's nothing happening on the server (with "silly" log level).
I've tried patching sails.io.js to support the query parameter, and when connecting, I send the token from Angular, but in the best case, I get a response with error message coming from express-jwt saying credentials are missing...
I've also seen some hints that socket.js in sails needs to be modified with beforeConnect, I've seen socketio-jwt, but have no idea where and how to plug that in, in Sails.
Has anyone implemented this and is using JWT with Sails and sockets? I'd appreciate any kind of hint in what direction to go :)
I realised that policy I've put in place and that was using express-jwt abstracted too much away from me, so I didn't figure out what exactly was happening. Once I looked at other examples, I've figured out that I only needed to check what's different for websocket requests than regular, and I quickly found a way around the problem.
So:
set up token signing and sending on login
Angular takes the token and saves to local storage
Create an interceptor for HTTP requests to add authorization header and token
Fix up sails.io.js to forward query parameters provided through options (as mentioned in the question)
When connecting using sails.io.js, send token as query parameter, i.e. url + '?token=' + token
In sails policy, check all combinations for token, including req.socket.handshake.query, as below:
