Is it possible to install a newer version of kernel32.dll into win 7 x64 that includes the function GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime? - windows-7

Sorry for the noob question, folks. My new version of Vectorworks CAD 2022 won't run on my Win 7 x64 due to a missing procedure entry point. My laptop is too old to upgrade to Win 10 and I was hoping for a workaround, besides buying a new laptop. I tried downloading and installing a new kernel32.dll (probably for Win 10) that included the needed function but Windows 7 would not start up afterwards. Are my only options to (1) stay with the older version of Vectorworks or (2) buy a new computer? Thanks.

Update or Fix Windows 10 Lite

I have a problem I need help with. Thanks for everyone's interest.
My computer is using windows pro lite version shared on the online community "Windows 10 Pro 1909 (19H2) Build 18363.476 (Lite Edition) x64 - Nov 2019". It has removed many features. I am needing to re-enable Telnet feature in WINdows Features. But it has been completely removed.
Can someone help me to add Telnet back or is it possible to update windows to full version without reinstalling WINdows.
here is the picture in windows features

Is WiX Toolset Compatible with Windows 10

We are going to be rolling out Win10 machines in the near future, so in preparation I am researching potential compatibility issues. I use WiX as my installation framework, hence the question. Is WiX fully compatible with VS2013 and VS2017 on the Win10 platform?
I've done Win 3.11 -> NT -> 2000 -> XP -> 7 -> 10 migrations and the problems are almost always application related not installer related. (Unless someone writes a garbage install.)
WiX 3.11 has no problems with Windows 10. We currently have around 120,000 windows 10 devices deployed and I believe 1 kiosk type role that is still on Windows 7. A bunch of corp desktops are still on Windows 7 still but those are just the stragglers.
Yes, it is totally compatible on Win10 platform. I have been using Wix installer (v3.11) on VS2015 for a year. All you need to do is -> download and install the proper extension for your Visual Studio version from the following URL: http://wixtoolset.org/releases/. Then, download and install the version you want (stable ones are v3.11 and v3.10). That's it!

Can I bypass hyper-v with an earlier version of visual studio

I installed visual studio express 2013 on my windows 8.1 computer. Everything was fine until I learned that I needed 8.1 pro to have hyper-v to use a phone emulator to run my program. (I think)
Rather than downloading a new operating system, would I be able to use an earlier version of visual studio? If so, which one...
I am very new to phone development and (considering I can't get past the installation stage) would appreciate the simplest explanation out there.
Thanks!
Sadly, no. Hyper-V is a requirement for WinPhone emulation, and it requires Pro, no matter what version of VisualStudio
Note: To use the Windows Phone 8 emulator your PC must have Windows 8
Pro or greater and a processor that supports Second Level Address
Translation (SLAT).

However, you can easily upgrade to Pro, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/feature-packs You just buy an upgrade key and enter it, you don't have to go through the whole install a new OS process

While installing Auto Cad application software facing Error 1606

i am using windows 8 64 bit, while installation autocad software, in the begin of installation
the error 1606 occured , what to do to install the autocad in windows 8 64 bit, why this problem is taking place
Thanks
I am using Acad 2010 on a Win8.1 x64. What i did is i turned off windows defender then i used a 32 bit setup file using 64bit files...i took the 32bit setup file pasted it in the 64bit files after removing the Acad 64bit setup. Worked for me.
AutoCAD versions prior than 2014 are not compatible with Win8, see here for autodesk products compatibility list
Since you're aware of that, I've installed acad 2012 on win 8 and I haven't got any issue once installed.
Your issue strongly looks like the one described here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=8164400&linkID=9240617
I hope this helps.

Which version of Windows 7 should I install on my development PC?

I am a .net and java deloper. I have an MSDN subscription with access to all editions of the Windows 7 operating system. I am going with a 64 bit installation. Which edition of Windows 7 should I install on my development PC: Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise, Enterprise N, etc.? Thanks in advance.
Put Ultimate on the box and run the others in virtual machines.
If you have access to all versions, I see no reason not to install Ultimate.
As long as your tools run on the OS it shouldn't matter
(btw: I'm running ultimate and it's working out fine)
I think you should use Vista, or even XP for developing your .Net Apps
the reason is your apps have to be backward compatible.
Remember most users still use XP.
And you cant sell your app to an XP user even if your app is very clever, because they cant install it.
And at last .Net is Platform independ , you can use it on which ever windows version you want. (even for Linux)
(excluded windows 3, 98)
