I am unable to figure out why this is happening. I even changed the JAVA version to 8 on my system, but the error persists.
I know I'm too late but here's the solution that worked for me in Intellij for the same problem:
Please add "--add-opens java. Base/java.net=ALL-UNNAMED" to your VM option.
For intellij : Open Run/debug Configurations > Create an application for your file if its already not there > Add VM Option > add this config in VM "--add-opens java. Base/java.net=ALL-UNNAMED"

all! Three other people and I have recently completed a Java project, which is a recreation of the game Pokemon. Here is a link to the project:
https://github.com/Pirate-Hunter-Zoro/Pokemon
The following screen recording should show that the project runs successfully on IntelliJ: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c3lXbNVvrqX
However, when I try to clone this project from Git, and run 'gradle wrapper' and then './gradlew run', while the application does launch, I cannot make it past the intro screen, as this video shows:

Finally, here is the resulting error message:

I tried to clone a repository and use 'gradle wrapper' and './gradlew run', expecting the application to work. The application launches, but does not work.
I am trying to analyze the source code of spring boot.
I compiled the source code of spring boot 2.2.9 RELEASE, and no errors were reported. And use this version as a dependency of my test project, and the test project can be started normally in IDEA.
But when I start the project in debug mode in IDEA it produces an error.

I've looked at many resources online, but no one seems to have encountered a similar error.
I've tried multiple variations of this, but none of them seem to work. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
This has been fixed in IntelliJ IDEA 2021.3 in the scope of https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KTIJ-15750
Feel free to upgrade your installation

I am trying to run an existing Grails project within Intellij Idea. The project will run from the command line using grails run-app, however when I try to run the project from within Intellij I get the error
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/springframework/web/filter/GenericFilterBean
The GenericFilterBean class exists within the grails directory in the location C:\grails-2.4.3\lib\org.springframework\spring-web\jars, and I have additionally tried to add the Jar as a dependency of the module within the project structure (to ensure that it is included on the classpath).
I don't understand why the project will run from the command line but fails within Intellij.
I am using Grails version 2.4.3 and Java 1.8.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Could you help me? Thank you.
Maven 3.3.3 is only compatible with Java 7+, and it seems that you are trying to run it with Java 6. Please check your JAVA_HOME environment variable, it should point to a Java 7 JDK.
