after succsesfully running BI Publisher and making it work I wanted to convert my already existing .rdf Files from Oracle Reports into rtf so i can use them in BI Publisher.
But after Installing and succsesfully converting .rdf files to xml(would be a intermediate step) my bi_server1 does not start anymore.
Does someone know why that is and/or how to fix it?

I downloaded instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.1.0.2.0.zip from Oracle site, but in the installation step they mentioned "All installations require the Basic or Basic Lite package.".
Can you send me the exact link and steps to install that Basic or Basic Lite.
Also i after extracting that zip file, there is no such Setup.exe file, i am seeing only these 3 exe files. adrci.exe, genezi.exe, uidrvci.exe.
whether this is the exact .exe files or something else and for what purpose these .exe files are.
Thanks and Regards,
Ramachandran.
With Oracle Instant Client, there is no setup.exe, no install.exe, no install.sh, ... no installer whatsoever. It is a mere unzip -> configure what's necessary -> point your Oracle client apps to it -> use it.
As soon as you have extracted the contents of the ZIP file, your Instant Client is "installed".
Edit: Since this software does not get installed, you won't see it in the list of the installed software in your Windows.
a little background, I really don't know any technical terms from Oracle. My company have a pre built machine and I'm trying not having to go there backup my files and lose a day of job because I cant.
Recently I'm learning how to use Oracle Designer (6i) to build a diagram and later a table so I can request it to be created... While using the software it requested to install some file for the repository... after doing it, It screwed up every Oracle product I was using... I couldn't connect to PLSQL or even the designer...
After fixing some registry to point to the right TNSNAME and manually adjusting PLSQL, I managed to access both. The problem in hand is in oracle Designer at the "Designer Editor", when I right click a table and select generate, the message bellow shows up
Message
-------
CDD-23564: The file "C:\ORACLE\DSG6I\BIN\cds61.dll" could not be loaded or does not exist.
Cause
-----
The specified file or one its dependent files could not be loaded.
This may be because a file has not been installed, or is not
correctly defined in the system registry.
As an example dependency, the Forms Generator files require the
Form Builder files installed as part of Developer.
Action
------
Check the registry settings for the location of the required
file. Also check the product and any required dependencies
e.g.Developer have been installed correctly.
If necessary, try reinstalling.
The dll mentioned IS and EXISTS on the mentioned folder.
Considering I don't have the Oracle Developer 6i intaller, what can I do? What registry entry should I update?
Designer 6 is long out of support. Oracle has a free tool, SQL Developer Data Model, which does not break.
Even Designer 9i was flaky and would crash at random intervals and poke along with larger schemas. Anything over hundred tables could take days to edit. Ah, good times...
I managed to fix the problem by copying and replacing the whole ORACLE_HOME\DSG6I folder (in my case c:\Oracle\DSG6I, for those confused in terms like me) and the oracle system registry (regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle) from a coworker machine!
I have inherited a database that was created in Visual FoxPro. I don't have that program. Currently I have Access 2007. I've been trying to get External Data using an VFPOLEDB file that I got from the Microsoft website. When I try to use it with Microsoft Query its not listed. I used the Setup Installer Package. Do I need to put it somewhere special? Its in the common files\system\ole DB folder. Along with all of the other .dll files.
I'm at my wits end. Keep in mind I don't have the VFP program. If this is why I'm failing please yell at me. Then I'll know all is lost and I can just quit my job and become a hobo.
Try using the ODBC driver instead see:

I have been tasked with reviewing "SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010" and the "SAP Crystal Reports 2011" standalone as potential upgrade paths from Crystal Reports v10.
I've installed the extension to Visual Studio 2010 (and went through the common troubles of updating the runtime to get the viewer working) and can open report files and save them. Consequently, I get the "this report was saved in a previous version of CR, saving will upgrade the report file format" dialog. I've tested on a couple of reports and the conversion goes ahead smoothly and the resultant file remains compatible with our server software.
My problem is I have over 1,500 reports. I'd like to avoid opening each one in turn and saving/converting individually. Is there a way to convert all the report files in one fell swoop? Some means of scripting Visual Studio to do it, maybe?
Notes:
I've added every report file to a project and attempted to Save All... no dice.
I must convert every single report now. It's not an option to just convert those that need changes when they need changes.
My work network access is locked down pretty tight. The bureaucratic process to get any utilities or tools installed on my machine is INTENSE and must be justified.
We don't use any features of CR standalone that aren't shipped with VS.
P.S. It's worth re-iterating that I'm also reviewing CR2011. I'll need to do the same thing with the standalone designer too.
Why not use Windows PowerShell? I've written a PowerShell wrapper around the Crystal Reports SDK named PsCrystal. My goal is to make it easier to script the mundane tasks that I encounter each day.
You should be able to adapt the (sole) example to suit your needs. I will add more examples in the near future. Feel free to help the project, if you want.
Check if this tool will work for you:
http://www.r-tag.com/Pages/CRDataSource.aspx
It is actually replacing the connection, but will upgrade the reports too.
Thanks to Craig and Lan for their input (you get an upvote), but Ryan addressed my problem within the comments of my question (and even did so after I gave him sass!).
For those with broken scroll-wheels and/or extraordinarily short screens:
For VS2010, you could easily create a simple program to open each .rpt
file in a directory and then re-save it (The web is full of examples
in the language of your choice). Doing this in CR2011 is a little
trickier... I'd try a script in something like AutoIT.
Thanks, Ryan, for reminding me that I'm working with an API. Not just a dev environment.
I am running SQLManagementStudio_x86_2012_ENU.exe to install SQL Server 2012. I came across a problem and I was hunged on it too long.
I have seen the same problem in SO and they are give a solution for that. I also over come that problem but again stuck again in half way through. So I am going to ask this again(not a spam)
Problem: When I ran above mentioned exe it was installed fine, Then I tried to create a instance of the server. I used SQL Server Installation Center in configuration tools. then I selected new SQL Server and it asks me to select the SQL Server Installation Media. I selected C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server but it was invalied.
then I figured out that it is asking for the Installation media itself. So I extracted the .exe file to a folder and selected that path. that was taken as a valid media.
I refered to this link.
some have mentioned that this was a bug here.
when I clicked next it gives the following error. so that I can not proceed and create a instance. Can some one help me on this.
thanks in advance.
I have tried lot of things to come up with a solution for this. As you can see in the picture, there are only 2 check boxes which are already checked and disabled. This is not the right .exe file to run(I was unable to create a server instance using this). I downloaded the right SQL server installation file from here.
There are several .exe files that gives different functionality enhancements. I chose SQL server with tools which is about 1GB. I did not have to uninstall the existing sql server installation. I installed this and it worked fine. I will post back if I found a way to create a SQL server form the given installation. If you have the same problem as described above, most probably you are using the wrong .exe file.
Good luck with your fix.
