preserve alpha channel when changing resolution in webm vp9 ffmpeg - ruby

I am running the streamio-ffmpeg gem in my Ruby code here to operate the FFMPEG command.
Setting a Webm with codec VP9 that has alpha transparent frames in it as the input, I want to change the resolution from 1080p to 720p and preserve the alpha transparent frames when outputting to the same format/codec.
I've tried it several different ways, but every time it outputs with a black background where the alpha transparent background should be, but ffprobe shows that ALPHA_MODE is set to 1.
Here's the command that streamio-ffmpeg tells the system:
["/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg", "-y", "-i", "part1.webm", "-s", "1920x1080", "-aspect", "1.7777777777777777", "videos/movie_transparent_1920x1080.webm"]
This one should have been exactly the same as the original, since the original resolution WAS 1080p. The resulting file is actually black background instead of transparent.
Here's my Ruby code:
def process_alpha_transparency(output)
render_res = []
case #height
when 1080..2160
render_res.append("1920x1080", "1280x720", "852x480")
when 720..1079
render_res.append("1280x720", "852x480")
when 480..719
render_res.append("852x480")
when 0..479
render_res.append(#resolution)
end
formats = ["webm", "mov"]
combined_time_start = Time.now
render_res.each do |res|
formats.each do |format|
puts "Rendering a #{res} resolution version."
if format == "webm"
options = {
resolution: res
}
time_start = Time.now
#movie.transcode("videos/#{output}_transparent_#{res}.#{format}", options)
time_elapsed = Time.now - time_start
puts "Te resolution rendering completed in #{time_elapsed.to_i.to_s} seconds."
end
end
end
combined_elapsed_time = Time.now - combined_time_start
puts "The process completed in #{combined_elapsed_time.to_i.to_s} seconds."
end

How to extract an image per minute from video with a predefined starting frame in cv2 VideoCapture

I would like to extract one image per minute from an mp4 video recording and I have a code for that already, however, I also would like to add a starting frame from where the extraction should start and either set an ending frame or the number of images that should be extracted.
This is because I would like to avoid trimming the videos as it takes a very long time.
My existing code to extract the images is the following:
cap = cv2.VideoCapture(r'C:my_folder/my_video.mp4')
i = 1
while (cap.isOpened()):
ret, frame = cap.read()
if ret == False:
break
if i % 1800 == 0:
cv2.imwrite(r'C:/my_folder/pictures/' + str(i) + '.jpg', frame)
i += 1
cap.release()
cv2.destroyAllWindows()
Let's say I would like to start the extraction from frame 2700 and from that every 1800th frame until I have 30 frames.
Is there a way to do this? Every help would be much appreciated!
Change the if condition to the following:
if i > 2700 and i % 1800 == 0:

In opencv is there a way to open an .avi that is being recorded and created real time?

I have a camera recording app that takes in a camera image and records and saves the camera image output as an .avi file that I can play and do whatever once done recording. I want to create a real time opencv code that can take these .avi file that is being created real time, open it, manipulate it do some classification real time. Is there anyway for opencv to open these .avi as they are being written? preferably python but also C++ implementation? This will be done on windows10.
edit:
Currently when I try to do the generic video capture the with the output .avi with CV2 as
cap = cv2.VideoCapture('out.avi')
ret, frame = cap.read()
while(True):
ret, frame = cap.read()
cv2.imshow('frame', frame)
if cv2.waitKey(1) & 0xFF == ord('q'):
break
it gives me the error
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "video_grab.py", line 15, in <module>
cv2.imshow('frame', frame)
cv2.error: OpenCV(4.1.2) C:\projects\opencv-
python\opencv\modules\highgui\src\window.cpp:376: error: (-215:Assertion
failed) size.width>0 && size.height>0 in function 'cv::imshow'
where the assertion fail most likely since the video has 0 by 0 dimension while the capture is stopped and saved.
The following solution may work or not, depending on the codec of the AVI file:
Verify that ret value is True.
Increase the time in waitKey to something larger than 1msec.
import cv2
cap = cv2.VideoCapture('out.avi')
frame_period = 100 # 100msec - assume frame rate is about 10Hz
while(True):
ret, frame = cap.read()
if ret:
cv2.imshow('frame', frame)
if cv2.waitKey(frame_period) & 0xFF == ord('q'):
break
I testes it using "Motion JPEG" codec, and I am getting a warning message like: [mjpeg # 000002a22394b0e0] overread 8, when reading in faster rate than actual frame rate.
You may also try, start reading fast, and reduce the rate when ret = False:
frame_period = 1 # Start reading fast (wait only 1msec)
while(True):
ret, frame = cap.read()
if ret:
cv2.imshow('frame', frame)
else:
frame_period = 100 # Reduce the rate to 10Hz when reaching end of file.
if cv2.waitKey(frame_period) & 0xFF == ord('q'):
break
I think it's going to work better if you have some indication that new frame was captured.
I couldn't find a solution for that by just "querying" the AVI file using OpenCV.

Playing .bin video file runs slow. How can I make its execution faster?

My code is as follows:
image_name = filename
f_uyvy = open(image_name, "rb")
image_out = array.array('B')
image_out = Image.new("RGB", (width, height),"rgb(85%,85%,85%)")
pix = image_out.load()
#YUV is converted into RGB and stored into numpy
video = np.array(image_out)
cv2.imshow('video', video)
if cv2.waitKey(25) & 0xFF == ord('q'):
exit()
print "File Ended"
It is working, but slowly. How can I show frames faster?

How to get .mp4 videos from motion on a Raspberry Pi?

I use motion on my laptop and it works perfectly in any format. But when I use it on my Raspberry Pi 3 (Raspbian Jessie) with the Raspberry Camera V2, the only formats that work are : .avi and .swf.
When I choose any other format, the output video is a "0 sec video" that is played and closed instantly.
I would like to have .mp4 or .ogg output so I can read it easily with HTML5.
Here is the motion codec documentation.

Motion 4.0 supports mp4 format. See below my config.
Supported formats are:
# mpeg4 or msmpeg4 - gives you files with extension .avi
# msmpeg4 is recommended for use with Windows Media Player because
# it requires no installation of codec on the Windows client.
# swf - gives you a flash film with extension .swf
# flv - gives you a flash video with extension .flv
# ffv1 - FF video codec 1 for Lossless Encoding
# mov - QuickTime
# mp4 - MPEG-4 Part 14 H264 encoding
# mkv - Matroska H264 encoding
# hevc - H.265 / HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding)
ffmpeg_video_codec mp4
Still no answer, so I found a workaround :
In the on_movie_end event of the motion.conf, I run a command that convert my .avi file in .mp4
ffmpeg -i %f -c:v libx264 -c:a copy myvideo.mp4
( %f will be the fullpath of the video file)
Works like a charm

How to extract frames at particular intervals from video using matlab

I am using matlab 2013a software for my project.
I face a problem while splitting video into individual frames.
I want to know how to get frames at a specific intervals from video.. i.e., i want to grab frames at the rate of one frame per second(frame/sec) .My input video has 50 frames/sec. In the code I have used step() to slice the video into frames.
The following is my code , basically a face detection code(detects multiple faces in a video) . This code captures every frame in the video(i.e 50fp approx) and processes it. I want to process frames at the rate of 1 fps. Please help me.
clear classes;
videoFileReader = vision.VideoFileReader('C:\Users\Desktop\project\05.mp4');
**videoFrame = step(videoFileReader);**
faceDetector = vision.CascadeObjectDetector(); % Finds faces by default
tracker = MultiObjectTrackerKLT;
videoPlayer = vision.VideoPlayer('Position',[200 100 fliplr(frameSize(1:2)+30)]);
bboxes = [];
while isempty(bboxes)
**framergb = step(videoFileReader);**
frame = rgb2gray(framergb);
bboxes = faceDetector.step(frame);
end
tracker.addDetections(frame, bboxes);
frameNumber = 0;
keepRunning = true;
while keepRunning
**framergb = step(videoFileReader);**
frame = rgb2gray(framergb);
if mod(frameNumber, 10) == 0
bboxes = 2 * faceDetector.step(imresize(frame, 0.5));
if ~isempty(bboxes)
tracker.addDetections(frame, bboxes);
end
else
% Track faces
tracker.track(frame);
end
end
%% Clean up
release(videoPlayer);
But this actually considers every frame. I want to grab 1fps.
It cannot be done directly in Matlab 2013a, because the video access library does not provide the feature you want. Writing the necessary code to implement an efficient frame skipping routine is not really possible using just Matlab code (you would need to look inside the video libraries)
Working around it, you have two basic options:
Do as little work as possible on frames that you do not want to process.
Where you currently have
framergb = step(videoFileReader);
Instead do something like
for i=1:49,
step(videoFileReader);
end
framergb = step(videoFileReader);
(NB this does not allow for going beyond end of input)
Pre-process your file with a tool like ffmpeg, and reduce the frame-rate before you use Matlab.
The ffmpeg command might look something like this:
ffmpeg -i 05.mp4 -r 1 05_at_1fps.mp4
