Docker container application not accessible on the host at http://localhost:9393 - bash

I need to make sure create volume for container, set environment variable CSVSERVER_BORDER to have value 'Orange' and make application accessible on http://localhost:9393.
the command I used:
docker run -d -p 80:9393 -e CSVSERVER_BORDER='Orange' -v /root/solution/inputFile:/csvserver/inputdata imageid
Where /root/solution/inputFile is my local directory

The command should be:
docker run -d -p 9393:80 -e CSVSERVER_BORDER='Orange' \
-v /root/solution/inputFile:/csvserver/inputdata \
imageid
the change is in the ports section: -p <host_port>:<container_port>

Setting Docker environment variables in Azure DevOps using bash task

I am having a problem setting up an environment variable as part of Releasing my container. in Azure DevOps, I have a bash task in which I am trying to set an environment variable (CUSER)

The container runs but the environment variable is not set. But it is set when I execute the script directly on the host like export CUSER="Dev9" && docker run -e CUSER --name demo1 -p 80:80 myimage:256
I suspect there is a problem with the way my command is formatted but I am not sure where or what.
Resolved it by changing how I authenticate sudo.
sudo -S <<< $(MYPASS) echo export CUSER=$(CUSER) && \
docker run -e CUSER \
--name $(CNAME) \
-p 80:80 $(INAME):$(Build.BuildId) &

Docker behaving odd with bash environment vars

I know technically host networking isn't supported MacOS (see https://docs.docker.com/network/host/)
The host networking driver only works on Linux hosts, and is not
supported on Docker Desktop for Mac, Docker Desktop for Windows, or
Docker EE for Windows Server.
However it does actually seem to work. E.g. this works just fine:

However when I try to conditionally specify the host networking with a bash variable, it doesn't work, and I can't make sense of it. Consider the following test.sh:

I.e. when I hard code --network=host into the docker command, the container starts fine. But the exact same parameter in an environment variable fails to start with network "host" not found.
I'm honestly not sure if this is a failure of bash or docker, but I can't actually figure out what's going wrong.

Changing
export NETWORKING='--network="host"'
to
export NETWORKING='--network=host'
works. And for my purposes right now that's enough. But just to be thorough... Why? The working example has quotes in the value (--network="host"), so why does the shell expansion break the non-working example? What if I wanted something like --network="my host"?

Port forwarding through nested docker containers on Jenkins

My Jenkins pipeline uses the docker plugin that then runs a docker container from inside of that to set up a general test environment like this:

Once the test environment container is up, I run another container that has my code and tests inside that previously made environment container. One of my tests includes making sure a firewall was set up through iptables that allow certain ports through. To test to see if my firewall is setup correctly, I simple run this from inside that container (now 3 docker containers deep):

This is called by simply passing in the random port I used and the Jenkins docker node IP. When I run my test container, I do something like:
docker run -d -e DOCKER_HOST_IP=10.x.x.x -e RANDOM_OPEN_PORT=52459 -p 52459:52459 -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock
However, I still get a nil response from my test rather than an OK. Is there a way to port forward from the Jenkins host to my test environment to my test container?
Running the test environment with the option --network host seemed to solve the problem for me.

How to pass environment variable spring.main.web-application-type=SERVLET to run docker image

When I use docker run command, the variable "SPRING_PROFILES_ACTIVE" is right, but "SPRING_MAIN_WEB-APPLICATION-TYPE" does not work, how to pass "SPRING_MAIN_WEB-APPLICATION-TYPE" to dokcer image?
sudo docker run -d -e SPRING_PROFILES_ACTIVE=product -e SPRING_MAIN_WEB-APPLICATION-TYPE=SERVLET -e SERVER_PORT=6789 --network mongo_network
As described in the documentation, the expected format for that environment variable is SPRING_MAIN_WEBAPPLICATIONTYPE.
I use docker ENV to get it worked, here is the Dockerfile:

ENV TYPE NONE
COPY data.jar data.jar
CMD ["java","-jar","data.jar", "--spring.main.web-application-type=${TYPE}"]
then run the docker image:

Using ssh-agent with docker on macOS

I would like to use ssh-agent to forward my keys into the docker image and pull from a private github repo.
I am using a slightly modified version of https://github.com/phusion/passenger-docker with boot2docker on Yosemite.
ssh-add -l
...key details
boot2docker up
Then I use the command which I have seen in a number of places (i.e. https://gist.github.com/d11wtq/8699521):
docker run --rm -t -i -v $SSH_AUTH_SOCK:/ssh-agent -e SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/ssh-agent my_image /bin/bash
However it doesn't seem to work:

Since version 2.2.0.0, docker for macOS allows users to access the host’s SSH agent inside containers.
Here's an example command that let's you do it:
docker run --rm -it \
-v /run/host-services/ssh-auth.sock:/ssh-agent \
-e SSH_AUTH_SOCK="/ssh-agent" \
my_image
Note that you have to mount the specific path (/run/host-services/ssh-auth.sock) instead of the path contained in $SSH_AUTH_SOCK environment variable, like you would do on linux hosts.

Stick it in ~/bin/docker-run-ssh, chmod +x it, and use docker-run-ssh instead of docker run.
I ran into a similar issue, and was able to make things pretty seamless by using ssh in master mode with a control socket and wrapping it all in a script like this:

Not the prettiest thing in the universe, but much better than manually keeping an SSH session open IMO.
For me accessing ssh-agent to forward keys worked on OSX Mavericks and docker 1.5 as follows:
ssh into the boot2docker VM with boot2docker ssh -A. Don't forget to use option -A which enables forwarding of the authentication agent connection.
Inside the boot2docker ssh session:
docker#boot2docker:~$ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK
/tmp/ssh-BRLb99Y69U/agent.7750
This session must be left open. Take note of the value of the SSH_AUTH_SOCK environmental variable.
In another OS X terminal issue the docker run command with the SSH_AUTH_SOCK value from step 2 as follows:

I don't really like the fact that I have to keep a boot2docker ssh session open to make this work, but until a better solution is found, this at least worked for me.
Socket forwarding doesn't work on OS X yet. Here is a variation of #henrjk answer brought into 2019 using Docker for Mac instead of boot2docker which is now obsolete.
First run a ssh server in the container, with /tmp being on the exportable volume. Like this
docker run -v tmp:/tmp -v \
${HOME}/.ssh/id_rsa.pub:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys:ro \
-d -p 2222:22 arvindr226/alpine-ssh
Then ssh into this container with agent forwarding
ssh -A -p 2222 root#localhost
Inside of that ssh session find out the current socket for ssh-agent

Now you can run your real container. Just make sure to replace the value of SSH_AUTH_SOCK below, with the value you got in the step above

By default, boot2docker shares only files under /Users. SSH_AUTH_SOCK is probably under /tmp so the -v mounts the agent of the VM, not the one from your mac.
If you setup your VirtualBox to share /tmp, it should be working.
Could not open a connection to your authentication agent.
This error occurs when $SSH_AUTH_SOCK env var is set incorrectly on the host or not set at all. There are various workarounds you could try. My suggestion, however, is to dual-boot Linux and macOS.
