How can I limit the memory usage of GeoServer (v.2.21.1) installed on a Windows Server 2019?
I can't find any setting in the interface to set a limit.
In the same way as any other Java program by setting a JVM option -Xmx756M for example. See the GeoServer manual for recommended best practices

I have a Quarkus application that transforms large sets of data. At some point I always get an Out Of Memory Exception. I think when I am running the application in "Java Mode" the JVM xmx flag should work to give Quarkus more memory. Is that correct?

I have a problem compiling FMU's in Jmodelica. for a medium size model I get the following error.
I already chanded the runtime parameter of JAVA in control panel and also tired setting the JVM allocated memory as high as possible using Xmx command. I'm running it on a pc with 128GB RAM.
Does anyone know how can I solve this issue in Jmodelica?
The JVM that is being used from JModelica does not take into account the system settings for the JAVA runtime parameter. You'll need to set it in the compile_fmu command. I.e.
compile_fmu(...., jvm_args="-Xmx10g")
I am new to Windows servers and I'm using Windows Server 2008.
I have to monitor CPU usage and memory usage in percentage.
I am using performance monitor for that but there are lop many options under CPU and Memory section I am confused which option I need to select to get CPU and memory usage.
I've being using windows server along many years using the task manager and the resource monitor (under the performance tab) to check, detect or fix any matter related with network, CPU, memory or disk input/output.
For historical reports regarding usage you've to record into a third party application configuring the SNMP service.
I found the solution. No need for external software.
In "Start -> Administrative tools-> Performance monitor" we need to set %CPU and committed bytes and it starts displaying a graphical report.
In an application I'm working on, under certain conditions the memory usage will shoot through the roof, effectively locking up my computer. I don't think it's a memory leak, and there are no errors, it just needs too much memory. The memory usage jumps to 99% in Task Manager and Windows stops working, forcing me to reboot.
Is it possible to set a maximum amount of memory VS can use while debugging? I'm not looking for a way to make it run out of memory faster, I just want to keep some memory free so Windows can keep working.

I'm not asking how to fix a memory leak. I'm trying to limit the memory used by the VS debugger. For example, my PC has 8GB RAM, but my application has to run on a PC with 2GB RAM. So I want to configure VS to only use 2GB. If the application tries to allocate 2.0001GB I want VS to tell it there is no more memory (probably causing a crash).
This isn't exactly the answer you were looking for, but it might help others, so I'm posting:
I would try the following:
1) Download Oracle Virtualbox
2) Download Disk2VHD.exefrom Microsoft Sysinternals
3) Clone your system using Disk2VHD
4) Configure a VM with the memory restrictions you want.
In this way you can restrict the RAM and CPUs used by your task, and possibly recover easier from the case you describe.
I am not an expert on JAVA_OPTS, but I am getting an error in my grails app related to Permgen space. Now I receive a recommendation from grails blog to set JAVA_OPTS to this value:
JAVA_OPTS="-client -Xmx256M $JAVA_OPTS"
I do understand the other values except '-client'. What does it really mean? I can't find the significance of it in books.
The -client and -server options are intended to optimize performance for client and server applications; the default varies by platform, where typically client-oriented platforms (Windows, MacOS) get the client VM by default, and typically server-oriented platforms (Linux, Windows Server) get the server VM by default. Basically, the client VM is optimized to start up quickly and use less memory, while the server VM is designed for maximum performance after start-up.
Usually, there is -server and -client,
-client starts faster than -server.
Nowadays, in some versions, like AMD64 version, it does nothing, there is only server version.
