We are using a the distribution gem for calculating a gamma distribution and because we specifically require the gamma quantile method, we also require gsl

This works fine locally but we are trying to push this to heroku and running into immediate problems.
From the looks of things, we require a gsl buildpack which are only supported up to version 1.16 of gsl. There doesn't appear to be a gsl buildpack for the current version 2.1. Installing GSL 1.16 locally appears to be really problematic and we haven't been successful doing this either.
Looking into this further, it looks like we would need to create a binary for the curret version which would need to be hosted on AWS. Seems a bit extreme for what is basically two methods.
Either, we need help building a buildpack or need an alternative to these two specific methods.

The installation instructions for rb-gsl say (slightly modified for clarity):
Ruby/GSL may be installed as a Ruby Gem by simply running
gem install gsl
Note that the GSL libraries must already be installed before Ruby/GSL can be installed:
Debian/Ubuntu: libgsl0-dev
Rather than a custom buildpack, I suspect you can get away with simply depending on the gsl gem and adding the apt buildpack for the Ubuntu dependency:
Add the apt buildpack early in your list of buildpacks, e.g. by running
heroku buildpacks:add --index 1 heroku-community/apt
Create an Aptfile in the root directory of your repository and list the Ubuntu packages you require inside it, e.g.
libgsl0-dev
Commit the Aptfile and redeploy
Note that the apt buildpack does not do dependency resolution. If libgsl0-dev requires other packages, you'll need to explicitly list them as well.

I am patching a script, and want to run code from a repo I manage that has patches.
The gem in question is not installed through a published gem but through a github link
When requiring any gem that is normally installed. The script works. But requiring any gem that is installed through a github link fails. Any suggestions?
If I understand the problem correctly, there are a few solutions:
Clone the gem that's only available via the github link, build the gem locally, install it. You should be able to require it
You might be able to manage the project with bundler and a Gemfile. Instructions here for the syntax. Bundler basically does what I suggested above, for you. I don't think gem can install a gem from a remote natively?
Would love to see some more clarification, and if you're using a Gemfile the relevant snippets
So the issue was I was running the script in question using ./bin/path/script
This will not work if the script includes github referenced gems, you need to prefix this with bundle exec which is not immediately obvious, given that when you use non-github referenced gems, it works fine without it.
Now running bundle exec ./bin/path/script will work for both, it's probably just better using that wherever possible.
After installing PentestBox for installing penetration testing tools on windows 10 It was working great but some of the tools was outdated like metasploit, so I tried updating all using PentestBox Update Manager, but after finishing the update msfconsole keeps giving me this error

metasploit-framework x86-mingw32 was resolved to 5.0.0, which depends on sysrandom x86-mingw32

and i literally suck in ruby language on general so what should i do ?
The version of metasploit you linked to doesn't appear to have been updated in a few years. It doesn't list sysrandom as a dependency in the Gemfile.
There's a newer version which does have sysrandom as a dependency, here:

I'm not sure why pentestbox is using such an old version, but I'm assuming the "update" actually updates to the rapid7 version of metasploit (because it's looking for sysrandom which only exists there).
There are a few things you can try:
bundle install should install all the dependencies (without using the console tool built for pentestbox)
Deleting the Gemfile.lock and running bundle install. I don't usually recommend this but if there seems to be a version mismatch somewhere and sometimes this resolves dependencies errors. You should be able to re-check this file out again (assuming it's versioned locally)
If you can post the git commit hash of the metasploit version you've downloaded that might help provide additional suggestions for resolving.
I have a gem that I one of the owner/authors (hyperloop) that depends on another gem (opal-rails) which depends on another gem (opal-jquery).
All gems depend on the gem opal. The problem is the current released version of opal-query is locked to an older version of the opal gem.
The version of opal-jquery on master is okay. For whatever reason the author(s) have not pushed ruby gems, so I have to work around this.
The work around is that I have to say
gem 'hyperloop'
gem "opal-jquery", git: "https://github.com/opal/opal-jquery.git", branch: "master"
in the application Gemfile.
I am hoping somebody can give a workaround that could be embedded in the hyperloop gemspec, so that the problem is taken care of there.
I thought if I added
gem "opal-jquery", git: "https://github.com/opal/opal-jquery.git", branch: "master"
to the hyperloop Gemfile this would take care of it, but apparently not.
There isn't really a way to manage the dependencies of your dependencies. You have 2 options here:
1) Use an older version of opal
2) Clone the opal-jquery gem and modify its Gemfile, pointing to the version of opal you want it to use, then, in your Gemfile, point the opal-jquery gem to pull from your cloned version of the repo
Neither of these is really ideal and you'd have issues if you ever decided to upgrade to a newer version of opal-jquery if you go with the second route
Bundler has a feature where you can install gems in parallel using the --jobs option. For example:
bundle install --jobs 4
Does a similar feature exist for RubyGems?
I want to be able to run gem update in the same way.

No, this feature does not currently exist. However, there’s an unmerged pull request on RubyGems regarding downloading gems in parallel that may be integrated by the time you read this: https://github.com/rubygems/rubygems/pull/649. However, this PR does not address the installation of gems in parallel like Bundler does. So, some of functionality might partially be coming soon.
That said, telling RubyGems to do fewer things during installation is a good way to speed up installation. There are three relevant CLI options worth looking at.
Don't install documentation:
gem update --no-document
Don't attempt to upgrade gems already meeting version requirement:
gem update --conservative
Don't upgrade any dependencies that already meet version requirements:
gem update --minimal-deps
I recommend simply installing gems without documentation. The intent behind running a global gem update is usually “just give me all the latest stuff” so limiting the gems you’re updating would be in conflict that goal. However, many people don’t look at the RDocs generated for their installed gems, and it saves a lot of installation time.

So, let's say I've developed a plain old gem (not a Rails app). I already know how to use Bundler for development, so I have a Gemfile and everything in my repository. However, I want this gem to use Bundler for dependency resolution when I install it, not just when I work on it.
Is there a way to do so, or would I have to resort to running its commands from a git checkout with bundle exec?
Bundler resolves dependencies not only for development. Just run bundle install on production server after deployment and it will install all needed gems there too.
