I have a node/javascript application which needs a database for data storage.
So far I have used Xampp (8.1.6-0) for Mac (OS Monterey, ver 12.6). Since a few days however mysql would’t start in Xampp anymore. After reinstalling Xampp and manually setting up the data base (grrr.... no backup made, my fault!!!) it worked for a day and now I have the same problem.
I am now thinking about getting rid of Xampp and replacing it by a mysql Community edition.
I am relativ new to mysql and also to node so I have a few question.
I use mysql2 as a node extension. Will this connect to a database which was made by this mysql community edition
Are there other alternatives to Xampp?
Can you advise on a good location to learn about mysql community edition in conjunction with node and mysql2.
I have made from myphpadmin a database export to a file ****.sql as backup. Can I use this file in mysql workbench to restore the database?
many thanks for you help

I am just starting to write VS2022 WebForms app and need a MySql connection.
I already have MySql Connector/Net 8.0.23 installed.
Database is MySql 8.0.23. All applications ar vb.net.
I have read where I need to install "MySql for Visual Studio" to establish a server-connection in "Server Explorer".
But I am concerned that it will wipe out my 8.0.23 Connector with a later version.
Will this be a problem?
Is there any way I can just specify a connection using my existing 8.0.23 connector.
I have many/many applications already written for 8.0.23 so I can't upgrade all of those.
Thanks
I have tried setting up a new server in "Server Explorer" but it also wants a mysql connector that I don't have in the installed connectors for VS2022.
You have to download "MySql Connector" from Devart. The problem is that it is no longer free: after a 30 days trial period, we have to buy a licence.
I am working with VS 2022 but I am considering installing VS 2019 because of this problem!
I am new to this technology and I badly need help regarding to this Mysql Database (Mysql Data Provider). I am planning to use data binding for my navigation of student details in my xampp database but when I'm trying to create a dataset, there wasn't Mysql Database (Mysql Data Provider) available. I've tried almost all solutions I've saw in the internet but none of them works. Please help me. btw I am using Visual Studio 2022 and Xampp Mysql for the database. Thank you in advance.
Actually, MySQL for visual studio isn't updated yet! it runs only on VS 2019 and lower, so you can't use it on VS 2022 at this moment.
But you can link your MySQL database with your C# project via Connect / Disconnect mode but not with Entity framework.
Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 10 on my PC and downloaded and installed the current version of MongoDB Enterprise from the MongoDB website. After installing MongoDB, it works fine. But the mongodump.exe and mongorestore.exe files are missing in the C:\Program Files\MongoDB\Server\4.4\bin directory. So, I cannot restore my previous database and continue my work. Am I doing anything wrong? How can I get those files back so that I can restore my previous database?
Starting with Mongo 4.4 the database tools are not part of the MongoDB Server package anymore.
You have to download MongoDB Database Tools separately from https://www.mongodb.com/try/download/database-tools
I'm installing for the first time Weblogic:
Url: https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html
Installer type: Generic Installer for Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle Coherence
As you can see from the image
the installer states that is going to create a new Oracle home.
I remember that when I installed Oracle Database I read, during the installation, that the installer was creating a Oracle Home.
My question may seem pretty stupid:
can I launch the default installation for Weblogic or it can create problem since there is already Oracle Database installed and a Oracle home already exists?
Thank you
You have to install every oracle product in a different home directory.
You can set the home directory in the installation wizard.
I've created an empty console application in Visual Studio 2010 and I'm attempting to add an Oracle (10g XE ) Data Connection via the Server Explorer. I'm using Oracle ODP .NET as the connector and I get the following error:
ORA-12560: TNS: Protocol Adapter Error
I can access Oracle without issue via the web interface or a console, but continually get this generic connection error in VS. I'm using the default installation of Oracle XE and running it locally.
Any suggestion on how to get this set up correctly ? Every tutorial I find works on the understanding that this connection succeeds. As such I'm struggling to find where to begin to troubleshoot. I'm comfortable with VS2010, but new to the way Oracle does things with their DB.
EDIT 1
While troubleshooting I've found this only happens with the Oracle Data Provider for .NET. Using the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle I am able to successfully connect.
EDIT 2
I cleaned up everything and installed 11g XE and the ODAC tools again and continue to get the same message. I realize the error is somewhat generic, I'd be happy to post more information if anyone thinks it helpful. The database is run locally, I can't imagine what kind of 'configuration' an express database would even need...
EDIT 3
The ODAC tools appear to install a 'production' version of Oracle 11 instead of the BETA version that I installed first. Almost appears as if the tool is installing another database ? I also appear to have two ORACLE_BASE locations and two TNSNAMES in what appear to be very similar folder hierarchies. Perhaps a more straightforward tutorial is the answer, Oracle's isn't very descriptive.
Oracle 10g XE seemed to be the problem. A full install of 11g (Full, not Express) took care of the problem entirely.
From here:
Possible fixes for the TNS-12560
include:
Get the latest patches for the SQL*Net client software.
Check your $ORACLE_HOME and $Path variables.
Check File permissions on the PC client.
Ensure that TNS_ADMIN is set correctly.
Check for firewall issues.
Check that the Windows database service is started. Verify teh
ORACLE_SID parameter is set correctly
in the registry.
Wow. I finally got this syntax to work.
I'm a Sql Server guy. I used Oracle back in the da day.
But I'm trying to do some Entity Framework and I said "You're not going to bed until you get Visual Studio 2012 and a edmx file to talk to Oracle.
Geeze.
Here is what I came up with:
Data Source:
Oracle Database (Oracle ODP.NET)
Data Source Name:
localhost:1521/orcl
User Name:
SYSTEM
change the default data source name to localhost.
